This has (essentially) nothing to do with the virus:

Of course!

600 000 times?

Many of the factory workers probably went back to their home areas so the no longer needed the phones.

I'm just done doing a study of toilet paper sales over the last three weeks here in the UK.
In the last week the sales were only 40% of what they were the previous two.
Even sick people poo and need paper, so whats happened to 60% of the population!
And I am now convinced the UK government are lying to us about the number of deaths.

:D

Coronavirus: in Bergamo, football to life to death

Scientists say the Champions League match Atalanta Bergamo-Valencia CF on February 19 in Milan may have been a major detonator of the epidemic in northern Italy. Let's take a look back at those special days when this peaceful city went from joy to fear.
Giulia Merelli will never forget February 23, 2020. That day, this 28-year-old woman, social worker in Ranica (Italy), in the suburbs of Bergamo, understood that the situation was changing. "The Sunday before Lent, all the villages are carnival," she says. We parade masked and families are on the streets, throughout the province. At noon, at the last moment, all the parades were canceled. The confusion was total. Fear has become more present. The coronavirus was no longer just a Chinese affair, "a distant thing," as she says.

Four days earlier, Giulia Merelli and tens of thousands of supporters from the local football club, Atalanta de Bergamo, had gone to Milan, 50 kilometers away, to watch the first leg of the League’s knockout stages champions opposing their team to that of Valencia FC and won by the Italians 4-1.
The “zero match” theory

A meeting that Italian doctors describe today as an accelerator of the epidemic in the province of Bergamo, the most affected in Europe with a mortality seven times higher than the norm. Some even develop the “zero match” theory.

Maybe they already have some and are using their stockpiles. Or maybe they are going outside at night and hiring someone to clean up their "doggie poo!"

We just went to Kroger’s yesterday and we got the limit of 18 rolls. Two cases of water and 12 boxes of Kleenex. No worries.

There´s a race right now between the three mayor powers, which we all know who they are. But the race is not for who comes out with a cure first, it´s for who will power the world from now on. With that out of the way, the war that is going on, which is NOT the war some are used to, has to do with disinformation, fake news, propaganda and basically social engineering for these three powers to achieve or discredit goals or needs. Be it via media, web, dark web, or what ever medium they can. That´s the real war, the virus is just the start gunshot to start the race for the ultimate goal! Who will get there first out of the three is yet to be known, but we the people will be the losers, not those who are on top.

It´s up to us what we belive in, and that will have to do with how all this will end, and/or what changes there will be in the future world! It dosen´t have to do with what side you´re on, so get over it. They only have one side...

And no, we don´t know if it came from a bat yet, but we do know it´s not man-made as that would leave a genetic trace.

I´ll leave it here.

Who will be on top when all is said and done?

I posted earlier that "I made the horse laugh and I made the horse cry". (A really funny joke, google it).

After all is said and done here is where we will be:

Nuclear-Weapon States:

The nuclear-weapon states (NWS) are the five states—China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and the United States—officially recognized as possessing nuclear weapons by the NPT. The treaty legitimizes these states’ nuclear arsenals, but establishes they are not supposed to build and maintain such weapons in perpetuity. In 2000, the NWS committed themselves to an “unequivocal undertaking…to accomplish the total elimination of their nuclear arsenals.” Because of the secretive nature with which most governments treat information about their nuclear arsenals, most of the figures below are best estimates of each nuclear-weapon state’s nuclear holdings, including both strategic warheads and lower-yield devices referred to as tactical weapons.

China:

About 290 total warheads.

France:

About 300 total warheads.

Russia:

March 2019 New START declaration: 1,461 strategic warheads deployed on 524 intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers.
The Federation of American Scientists (FAS) estimates approximately 4,490 stockpiled warheads and 2,000 retired warheads for a total of roughly 6,490 warheads, as of early 2019.

United Kingdom:

About 120 strategic warheads, of which no more than 40 are deployed at sea on a nuclear ballistic missile submarine at any given time. The United Kingdom possesses a total of four ballistic missile submarines. Total stockpile is estimated up to 200 warheads.

United States:

March 2019 New START declaration: 1,365 strategic nuclear warheads deployed on 656 intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers.
FAS estimates approximately 3,800 stockpiled warheads and 2,385 retired warheads for a total of 6,185 warheads as of early 2019.

I come out of the "duck and cover" generation. Unless this becomes the "Spanish Flu" of 1919 I see the other real dangers after this is all over.

RR, I doubt ANY country wants to start a nuclear war! They would have a long time ago.

A biological war is much more easier, as you can see, or not...

Don't worry if a nuke explodes, there will be always someone to tell you that only 3-4000 persons are deads.[:D]

RangerJoe -> RE: OT - The New Coronavirus (4/4/2020 3:29:34 PM)

Before you start using biological weapons, you want to have the cure.

Well we do know viruses exist in outer space, along with alot of other things in space we don´t know of yet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VielSUhG-40

What we should worry is that, if we know that each day 1,000 people die, and numbers could be higher but they don´t want to rise the alarm. That means that 7,000 people die every week! So the problem is not the numbers as much but the reaction time! We can´t wait a week for fixes as that means 7,0000 more will die while decision are made! That´s what should sink in some heads!

Amen to that.
A friend and I in the sixth grade "studied" the "bombs" and their lethal range.
We had a map of the United States and scaled out the blast radius of each bomb. Who would die from the blast and who would die later from the radiation.
We dropped the "in scale" circles onto the map.
It was surprising how few bombs would have been necessary to take out the East and West Coasts.
After that "duck and cover" became "let's run outside and not miss it".

Surprising what statistics and measurement can do to affect your mindset?

Red. Like the horse found out, mines bigger. The "five" are too. Not much will change. We may all spend a little more GDP on respirators and future planning for pandemics. But, the power will be in the hands of the powerful. And, you said it yourself, the likelihood of a nuclear war is low. It does not mean that the power shifts?

Perspective, IIRC, 67,000 Americans died last year of the regular flu.
But, I know, it did not happen all at once like this pandemic.

It's not surprising how different viewpoints can be held by individuals?

If I put a bow in your hand, Iam basically telling you to hunt for your food.

If I put a gun in your hand, Iam basically telling you there´s a enemy nearby.

Funny how we are manipulated, at least some.

Orm -> RE: OT - The New Coronavirus (4/4/2020 5:31:27 PM)

Hunting with bow is illegal here.

Red2112 -> RE: OT - The New Coronavirus (4/4/2020 6:12:35 PM)

I think you´re missing the point there.

Orm -> RE: OT - The New Coronavirus (4/4/2020 6:55:13 PM)

No, I got it. I just elected to make a point, that was irrelevant to your point.

I hope no offence was taken.

MrRoadrunner -> RE: OT - The New Coronavirus (4/4/2020 6:55:56 PM)

Cross bow or long bow?

And, BTW, I hunt with rifle and shot gun. I am also a good pistol target shooter.
