GetAssista -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/17/2020 10:20:04 PM)

It will get better. Chinese LCU supply will run out (organic production in CK is not nearly enough), and their firepower will get much less lethal

jdsrae -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/18/2020 12:45:29 AM)

If you split your Divs into thirds and set the most damaged to Reserve mode (at least a third but up to half of them) they should recover fatigue and disruption to zero in about 10-11 days. They’ll also recover lots of disabled squads and devices in that time if kept in supply. With ongoing bombardment, the Chinese AV should flatline. Good luck for the next attack!

RangerJoe -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/18/2020 1:39:47 AM)

I agree. Plus, if one third gets very well healed and the others are so-so, recombine and divide again.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/18/2020 4:56:46 AM)

Yeah recovery seems to be ok so I should be able to manage an attack every 2-3 weeks or so. With Chinese AV not increasing (not really decreasing either but at least not recovering), I do think it will eventually fall. But I do expect it to take most of the rest of 1942 at least (we're currently in August).

RangerJoe -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/18/2020 12:13:30 PM)

Bombing at night? Breaking units up to bomb at different altitudes and from different bases could lead to more attacks. Each attack increases supply consumption by 10%. Even set a few fighters to bomb at very high altitude if you have to just to increase the number of attacks. The amount of those little black clouds will tell you about the supply situation. Keep bombing the airbase.

Sooner. As the forts come down, your troop damage does as well which means your recovery is shorter. You've had your one really bad roll already, I suspect you take CK with your future one good roll by October …

Everything else is pretty quiet, although the Allies are probing our defenses in Burma with bombardments and the occasional deliberate attack. Will this JR hex hold without reinforcements?

I guess he will never be the ace of legend now. He did make it further as he was seriously wounded and partially blinded on 7 Aug 42.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/27/2020 5:52:22 PM)

My daily bombardments at Chungking now seems to be doing virtually nothing. It used to be that they were distrupting/destroying around 30 Chinese squads per day. Now, this is typical. I wonder what's going on? I have 30+ ART units bombarding every day with plenty of supplies.

PaxMondo -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/27/2020 6:08:05 PM)

Don't worry, morale is being beat down which really helps with the next assault outcome.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (5/27/2020 6:30:25 PM)

Hmm, but it's just strange that it's shifted so much. Is it possible to do anything to increase damage? What might be causing this? Maybe he's putting most troops in reserve mode?

really hard to say what's causing it … and then there is FOW ...

Forts have likely increased greatly unless you are bombing the AF too.

Now what? Let him recapture it so you can kill the units when they respawn?

True, and I sort of meant it as a joke. But if it is recaptured right away, then move a unit in and sit there. No resources generated so little to no supply. You would have to stockpile resources at all of the bases that you have on a road going to Chungking so your resources don't get shipped in.

Then suddenly, after so many turns, he gets all of those Chinese units with no supply. [sm=fighting0056.gif]

The auto supply generation in Chungking is significant.

November 7-8, 1942.

In a series of surface and air battles around Rossel Island, both sides have taken a pounding in some of the fiercest battles of the war. Probably about even in terms of losses, but attrition favors the Allies. Chikuma and Kinugasa represent the second and third Japanese CAs sunk of the war - a rather big loss.

The Japanese were trying to reinforce a small garrison at Rossel and Tagula, while the Allies are trying to island hop toward New Guinea.

Massive win at Chungking.
Was that the whole Chinese army or are them some hold outs to be mopped up?

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (7/24/2020 6:49:14 PM)

There is about 2500AV scattered around China to mop up which is one of the next tasks.

There's also 2000 AV trying to break through to Burma/India at Paoshan which I'm trying desperately to stop. I control lower Burma but not upper Burma (didn't have enough troops available with the massive commitment to China. Redeploying now - it's kind of a race to see if those Chinese units can escape.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (10/10/2020 7:04:34 PM)

It's January 28, 1943 and the war continues although everything has gotten really quiet.

Since late 1942, there has only been minor sparing around the periphery of the Empire. Corsairs made their debut earlier this month, but so far haven't been engaged in combat.

The Japanese army in China is cleaning up some remaining pockets of resistance and marched a force all the way out west to occupy Urumchi. Japanese forces also took Ramree Island and are making moves into upper Burma around Mytkynia. I considered a full scale move into India while there was still time for a major Japanese offensive but decided to stick with consolidating a firm defense instead. Why waste the supplies and stick my neck out, giving him opportunities to nibble away at the perimeter elsewhere?

Allied forces occupy the Gilberts (never bothered to defend these) and have taken Nauru Island almost unopposed, but there have been some minor air and naval engagements around the island (nothing larger than destroyers and just a few transport ships sunk). The Allies are moving slowly back into Northern Australia around Port Helland, and while I would like to slow this down or stop it, Port Helland is too far from my bases to do much about and it's not worth a major fleet operation.

Rossel island is quiet with both sides content with the status quo. Very slow almost unopposed Allied creep up the Solomons, but still short of Bouganville.

I suspect the Allies are biding their time, waiting for Hellcats, Essexes, and P-47s to initiate major offensive operations. Meanwhile, the Japanese are content to take their time consolidating the perimeter for the battles to come.

One thing that's interesting is that it seems to me that the majority of Allied ground forces haven't yet been seen anywhere, and the major Allied carriers haven't been seen since early 1942 (and even then hardly at all). I suspect that he's building up in Pearl, India, or Australia to drop a hammer at a single point in mid to late 1943. But where? The Solomons probably aren't important enough for this, so I'm guessing it must be the Kuriles, Hokkaido/Honshu (Greyjoy 2.0?), Marianas, or somewhere in the Dutch East Indies from the Banda Sea to Bay of Bengal. Trying to balance the defenses for all these possibilities while maintaining a reserve to quickly respond to anywhere that might be threatened.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (10/10/2020 7:10:35 PM)

Not much interesting in terms of ships and aircraft lost recently. Minor attrition, easily replaced by both sides.

I suspect quiet favors the Allies at the stage in the war but not sure what I should do about it? A Japanese offensive has an ever growing risk of being unsuccessful and would just hand the Allies opportunities elsewhere.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (11/1/2020 6:08:04 PM)

Feb 26, 1943

In SoPac, Allied forces have successfully established themselves on Nauru Island, and the battle of attrition has proved too costly for the Japanese high command to bother with. Nauru is now building up. Allied recon and bomber flights have shown interest in the Marshalls but these are mostly abandoned. I might choose to fight for them if I can inflict disproportionate damage, but the Marshalls have never been considered an integral part of the Japanese defense network.

Allied forces have also slowly crept up the Solomons to Munda (it looks like a dot base right now but there are several Allied units there building an airfield, no doubt). Rossel Island remains contested, as it has been for many months.

rader -> RE: Pacific War 3.0 (No Encircled please!) (11/1/2020 6:19:07 PM)

But the main news is that the George entered service this month, and has already proven extremely effective. A week ago, the first George units flew concentrated sweeps over the developing land battle of Warazup in Northern Burma. At Warazup, approximately 4 division equivalents of British and Indian forces, along with strong armor contingents, are mounting a desperate defense against a strong Japanese force several times their size. Allied reinforcements are on the way, but Japanese forces are slowly grinding away at the Allied troops. It's a race against time. Japanese forces have so far taken more damage in the battle and are having some difficulty bringing in supplies, but Allied defenses are slowly crumbling (now down to fort level 1).

Meanwhile, fierce battles have raged in the air overhead every day, with neither side able to operate optimally near a friendly airfield (the nearest Allied airfield is 3 hexes away, and the nearest Japanese is 5). Both sides have been fighting for control of the skies and sending in bombers every day to drop lethal packages of ordnance.

Today, the Japanese naval air force mounted their biggest effort yet, committing every George yet in service to try to throw up an air defense umbrella and stop the Allied bombing. It was a bloody day, with torrents of Allied light bombers falling from the sky (Vengeances and A-24s), and also significant numbers of medium bombers. Will this dissuade Allied air intervention and tilt the ground battle toward the Japanese side? Time will tell.
