B25cs and Airacobras attack Bundaberg prior to the ground assault...

What is that large task force heading towards Bundaberg?

In China on the Ankang road ... another general attack...but this time we actually have supplies (well 2 out of 3 do[;)]). Three attacks in the last four days and look at that morale, fatigue and disruption![:D]

We are sending a crackerjack Corp from Ankang to reinforce, along with some British AT guns. The Stuarts are near Ankang and will act as a fire brigade for now.

If I understood Alfred's Repair 101 correctly, the minor engineering damage should be repaired next. The AI prioritizes the flood damage (within the same repair band) but since it can't fix major flood damage there, it should move on to the minor engineering damage. System damage is low enough to be in a different repair band at the moment.

Yep, dropped engine damage by a few points, raising top speed to 3.[:)]

Not a great day for the Allies...but I will take it....especially the land victories.

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:29:37 AM)

May 2, 1942

Here comes the IJN! Despite the forecast for clear weather...the coastline is beset by storms...but partly cloudy over Rockhampton.

The IJN dodges the sub gauntlet...

skirmishes with PT Boats...who retire unhurt to rearm from an AGP at Marysborough.[:)]

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:32:17 AM)

There are several squadrons sweeping...the first goes in to great effect near Rockhampton:

Morning Air attack on 4th Brigade, at 95,152 (Rockhampton)

Weather in hex: Heavy rain

Raid detected at 39 NM, estimated altitude 35,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 13 minutes

A6M2 Zero x 30

Allied aircraft

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:34:52 AM)

But bad weather over Rockhampton, scrubs the sweep...and all flights until the afternoon despite numerous sightings of the IJN... the bombing raid goes in first before the planned sweep of course:

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Bundaberg at 96,155

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 20,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 7 minutes

Japanese aircraft

Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 35

Allied aircraft

Japanese Ships
xAK Tokusima Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Nanman Maru
xAK Toyokawa Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Ryuzin Maru, Bomb hits 1
xAK Aki Maru

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 4000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb
2 x TBD-1 Devastator launching torpedoes at 200 feet

Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb GP Bomb
4 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 3000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:36:11 AM)

Then three relatively unescorted waves of bombers go in with predictable results, here is the 3rd one:

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Bundaberg at 96,155

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 18 NM, estimated altitude 17,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 7 minutes

Japanese aircraft

F1M2 Pete x 4
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 23

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 6

xAK Venice Maru
xAK Nanman Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:36:57 AM)

Some strafing Airacobras...

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Bundaberg at 96,155

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 3,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 5 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 11
F1M2 Pete x 3
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 15

Allied aircraft
P-39D Airacobra x 22

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
P-39D Airacobra: 9 damaged

Japanese Ships
CA Myoko
xAK Kosin Maru #2, Shell hits 1, Bomb hits 1, on fire
CL Kiso, Shell hits 1
CL Nagara, Shell hits 4

Aircraft Attacking:
19 x P-39D Airacobra bombing from 100 feet
Naval Attack: 1 x 500 lb SAP Bomb

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:38:01 AM)

And finally a sub connects:

Submarine attack near Bundaberg at 96,155

Japanese Ships
xAK Tokusima Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Allied Ships
SS Salmon

xAK Tokusima Maru is sighted by SS Salmon
SS Salmon launches 2 torpedoes at xAK Tokusima Maru

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 10:43:54 AM)

About normal for an early war land based attack on shipping...but now the IJN is at Rockhampton with the Allied fleets fresh, and armed at Marysborough.

The damaged IJ fighters are landlocked at Rockhampton, unless he loads them on xak.

His fleets have fired quite a few rounds, both against the PT boats and the attacking planes...

Moonlight is high, the forecast is clear...the KB is somewhere?

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 1:29:27 PM)

The Allied fleet sorties from Maryborough...full ammo, PT boats leading the way...a bombardment force the last group leaving Brisbane...

Australia hangs in the balance...

Lowpe -> RE: Spanking Lowpe (NJP72 vs Lowpe (A)) (7/3/2021 1:35:04 PM)

May 3, 1942

In the late hours of May 2, 1942...the Allied fleet sorties...in groups on the smallish side, but not multiple small task forces...

Brace yourselves, true believer! The IJN is still at Bundaberg!

Sirens, battlestations...danger![X(]

Dream conditions for the Allies...a solid five rounds of gunnery, and better yet the IJN launches lots and lots of torpedoes!

It is up to our local Captains now...to see this night triumphant!
