T176 2 24/43 Berlin front now 11 hexes away.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (10/24/2021 10:15:57 PM)

T176 2/24/43 Budapest has been taken. That may trigger a surrender of Hungary. If not, all the Hungarian units in the Budapest area will be liquidated as they would be out of supply.

T176 2/24/43 Here is a view from space. The two areas in the South are Vienna and Budapest that are occupied.

T180 March 10, 1943 Here is the Berlin front. The center of Berlin is only 10 hexes away. However, between the main defensive line and Berlin, are many German units not visible. That explains the slow progress.

T180 March 10, 1943 The Russians have reached the west edge of the map.

T180 March 10, 1943 Here is a view of the Budapest pocket. The center hex of Budapest has been taken yet Hungary fights on.

The scenario briefing needs to be corrected to indicate both Hungary and Rumania never surrender.

1) Are there any hexes along the western edge that feed in Axis reinforcements?
2) What happens if you occupy the hexes depicted above.
3) The defeat of the Axis National Allies isn't part of the victory conditions but it sure is fun to clear the map of all the
enemy units. Am I right?
4) Good show, both of you.

I do not know if units feed off of the western edge.
If the center hex of Berlin is take it should be a Red Army scenario victory. However, neither Hungary or Rumania have surrendered as set out in the scenario briefing. I want the troops in Hungary and Rumania to help with taking Berlin but they have to stay there to eliminate axis troops that reconstitute there.

fogger -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (10/30/2021 12:37:45 PM)

Hi Tom
In the original test game between Willie and me, the junior axis partners surrender when their capitals were taken. Maybe something has been "broken" with this version. Having said that I did have some German units reconstruct in the bottom part of the map late in the game.

John

Hi John

It will be interesting to see if the remaining German units surrender when Berlin is taken. It is good to know the version you and Willie tested did work properly. Thanks for the information.

Tom

T182 3/17/43 Here is a view of the Berlin front now 9 hexes from Berlin.

T182 3/17/43 Here is a view from Space with Berlin noted.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/7/2021 8:21:49 PM)

T184 3/24/43 Only 8 hexes to Berlin. All out attacks have been ordered every turn now.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/7/2021 8:25:09 PM)

T184 View from space. Every hex in front of Berlin is probably a fortress of German defenders.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/8/2021 11:09:14 PM)

T185 3/28/43 Only 7 hexes from Berlin. Each hex is a fortified defense.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/8/2021 11:10:46 PM)

T185 3/29/43 The Panzer units are finally taking losses since they are holding the front in places.

[image]local://upfiles/50703/46EC29B51C2A42A7BFDD50F3A54727C4.jpg[/image]

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/8/2021 11:13:29 PM)

T185 3/28/43 Here are the Soviet tank losses in the same attack. Note much fewer Soviet tank losses. That same Panzer unit was evaporated on the next round of combat in the same turn.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/8/2021 11:20:39 PM)

T185 3/28/43 Breakout on the western front. If the German units try to pull back here they will find it difficult to get many units back to Berlin. I suspect at the end there will be a "donut defense" around Berlin with the Red Army attacking from all directions.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/11/2021 8:51:19 PM)

T1878 4/4/43 View from space. Most of the front is frontal attacks only.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/11/2021 8:54:30 PM)

T187 4/4/43 The Berlin front does not move much. For two turns now Berlin is still 7 hexes away. There are many German units not visible that just move up and replace units that are damaged. The Germans probably have an inventory rich with armored equipment since no big losses have taken place until now.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/11/2021 8:57:09 PM)

T187 4/4/43 The western front has been moving to get behind Berlin. However, next turn will be mud which will slow everything down further.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/14/2021 5:57:25 PM)

T188 4/7/43 Here is the Berlin front now only 6 hexes away. The direct route may be better than the flanks.

thomasharvey -> RE: FITE2 EARLY START (11/14/2021 5:59:15 PM)

T188 4/7/43 Here is the western front showing open country in the rear of Berlin. However, it is mud right now which will slow the offensive to encircle Berlin.

T191 4/18/43 Berlin front showing the Red Army is 6 hexes away from the center hex.

T194 April 28, 1943 Here is the wider Berlin front showing the new rails being repaired. More troops can be brought in by rail.

There needs to be an event that cancels mud if the Soviets are across the old Polish border. [;)]

You could draw the whole map at an angle so that the top is actually in the northeast rather than the north. Thus you'd be able to have weather effects that occur in the relevant parts of the Soviet Union but not in central Europe.
