BBfanboy -> RE: AAR 42 (11/20/2021 5:58:40 PM)

Your Chinese troops east of Sian may have suffered severe disruption, but you destroyed at least 153 of his combat squads for loss of only 75 or yours. Any time the Chinese can get 2:1 in destroyed squads is a great victory!

Note that the Japanese no longer got a supply(-) but they got an experience(-). That might mean they got a bunch of raw recruit replacements.

Yes I'm happy with any destroyed Japanese combat squads even though they are unlimited given the replacement system. I doubt the enemy has received replacements here already that have lowered their exp, might just be a die roll or the like. His army has to be mostly disabled already so we are expecting to achieve a major victory around Sian. Hopefully the enemy won't mass use his medium bombers as this can make my units in open terrain totally useless due to disruption but so far China was mostly quiet which is perfectly fine with me.

we attack again near Sian but the Japanese hold... damn it, even if we closely miss the needed 2:1 we take way more losses than the enemy... what works perfectly within a base the Chinese are prepped for it doesn't work outside, they are just barely usable for offensive operations... still, I'm positive to win this battle here...

oh come on... again we miss the needed 2:1 really close but at least this time the enemy suffers quite a lot destroyed combat squads which means his units are mostly disabled... as long as the Chinese only suffer disablements everything is going ok for us... with a 4:1 in base av not getting the needed 2:1 adjusted av in an open terrain against a rather trashed enemy is depressing though... the plus side is that the Chinese are really increasing their experience that way and in the end the enemy will take even more losses than due to an insta retreat...

the combat report for the 20th got lost which was the day the IJAAF also started bombing ground troops near Sian so we immediately moved in the three AVG squadrons to fly LRCAP from Sian meeting the incoming bombers trashing them... due to a very bad pre warning time the bombers were able to drop their load and were then attacked by our fighters...

DEFEAT! IJA troops attack again and take Bataan on their third attack as they also attacked yesterday... the last stronghold on Luzon surrendered and I'm not really happy about that as we planned to hold out way longer here but the enemy must have employed over 6000 base av in total during the fights on Luzon and even though we had around 2000 av spread over all our medium and small sized units of all kind not even the defensive terrain of Clark would be enough to withstand such a force... so the enemy takes all of Luzon pretty much within the historic timeline but he suffered way more losses to do so and sacrificed other fronts of needed troops which hampered the overall Japanese offensives... for example the enemy still hasn't brought a single IJA unit to attack anywhere in Burma...

the day we lost Clark Field we achieved victory against the IJA at Sian, the day we surrender at Bataan we get the needed 2:1 to force an IJA retreat East of Sian again... nearly 400 enemy combat squads destroyed again, out of a starting 2000 combat squads crossing the river into Sian the enemy has lost around 1200 I guess, most of the rest being disabled... this IJA army has been rendered combat ineffective for the next four months... a nice victory for the Chinese which will most likely completely stabilize North China, we lost some 200 combat squads, the many disabled squads can be recovered in rest mode at Sian...

April 21 is a pretty good date for resistance to last in Luzon. His amphib bonus has lapsed so he will not be able to use those freed-up units to expand his perimeter so easily.

Congrats on the victory E of Sian! I wonder if the effort he made on Luzon took troops away from his N. China offensive. He wouldn't have needed many more troops to get a stalemate and time to recover from his river crossing.

Are the Japanese BBs you bombed in Balikpapan Port still there?

True and I guess the end of the amphib bonus is his biggest problem now. He still has an insane number of troops but now he has to prep them and that takes time and if an invasion fails you can't reinforce easily. There were so many enemy troops on Luzon, I never checked where those started initially. Guess with a quiet China he's buying out units as someone stated we already met a Chinese division, I would buy out units from the Kwantung Army instead, very good divisions available there but costly.

Balikpapan was copletely evacuated, the only ships left there are two AMc we spot daily. If the BBs would be still there I would plaster them non stop with 500lb bombs. [:D]

I'd say this was one time too often bombing my troops at Changsha as the AVG relocated from Sian back to Chungking and down to Changsha... was expecting my fighters having a field day seeing so many Nates in the air but to my surprise our fighters ignored the Nates completely after downing one of the obsolet fighters and then they shot down all the obsolete 1E bombers...

that's important SIG INT... Koepang is well defended so I wonder what the enemy is going to bring to defeat the defenders... Darwin is our big fleet base in Northern Australia and we also got our carriers there so this could turn into a major clash with the IJN... Timor is one of the places I am not willing to give up...

the battle for Malang really starts now... ABDA troops do quite well there and we have well over 85,000 tons of supply so this could get bloody for the IJA if the enemy insists in taking the base instead of starving my troops to death (which could be hard considering Timor is in our hands)...

There appears to be some disbanded ships at Soerabaja. Worth a port strike? Was the repair SY damaged in the conquest of the base?

castor troy -> RE: AAR 42 (11/28/2021 4:43:24 PM)

There's no airfield symbol anymore due to the very low intel but a couple of turns ago I sent in a recon and it showed over 100 fighters at Soerabaja.

IIRC he captured all stuff at Soerabaja intact.

we hit a freighter loaded with troops within a convoy going South West in the straits between Borneo and Celebes... the convoy is heavily escorted as we even spot a BB, might be an amphib task force bound for one of our bases... KB has been loitering West of Kendari yesterday when Akagi was attacked by SS Truant and we had SIG INT of enemy units prepping for Koepang so perhaps that's the invasion group for Timor...

it's heating up and we're just about into the biggest naval engagement of the war as we have detected KB escorting a big task force which seems to be an amphib convoy heading towards Koepang which we already had SIG INT reports... Koepang is heavily defended and is built up nicely so I doubt he can move in and take the base and the amphib bonus has already ended but we are aiming to engage his ships this time, goal is to destroy shipping AND the troops aboard... we have therefor sortied Force Z in the lead followed by a USN BB task force and our carriers... the BBs will move to Koepang tomorrow, arriving there during the day, covered by 200 ABDA/USAAF fighters... the carriers will stay South of Timor out of potential range of KB and if the enemy amphib TF doesn't refuel it should also arrive at Koepang during the day at a current range of six hexes to the target...

due to earlier experiences Mundy seems to have stood down his bombers as I do have PT boat squadrons and some other smaller vessels at Koepang (a xAKL TF is also still unloading supplies but will leave during the night) and they weren't attacked even though my ships have been spotted the whole day... if KB keeps the bombers on the decks my BBs should be safe and I look forward to a daylight naval engagement... if KB does an unexpected long move South to cover the Southern approach of Timor then it could become interesting as this could put my carriers into KB's strike range... our carrier fleet will move further South towards the coast but still within a one day reaction range to engage if needed...

and then it was just like [X(] yesterday's turn I thought we must have missed the surface combat TF as we only spotted the expected amphib TF and KB but with my ships engaging this convoy it became clear that Mundy is closely escorting his amphibs when they show up at Koepang... when the engagement popped up I was sure we would be in an absolutely superior position having a superiour force in a surface combat TF fighting an amphibious force but it quickly turned out that this is not the case... Hiei engaged West Virginia and scored several penetrating hits leaving her burning and then the USN BB was riddled by the IJN cruisers with 20cm shells and it was clear the BB wouldn't survive the day... OOOOF! I really didn't expect that to be going like this when the engagement just kept going and our ships finally being able to land damaging hits on the enemy... first BB Hiei was able to bounce our main calibre shells (which was the next surprise for us as I'd rate any Kongo class BB just second rate in a naval engagement) but then we started to severely damage her...

we were also able to inflict heavy damage on the troop loaden transports and the IJA takes horrible losses while the troops weren't even landed at their target... the loss of West Virginia is quite a tragedy but we killed a Kongo class BB in return and mauled the ampib force... the IJN fought brilliantly and it wasn't a night engagement, being outnumbered I'd say they would have been the winner of this engagement if we wouldn't have also mauled the transports...

as you can see below it was an insanely long engagement...
