Nemo121 -> RE: Still life! (5/8/2006 9:53:58 PM)

Aye, I'm definitely glad to see this AAR continue also as it was one of the first to really explore Japanese capabilities fully and even on the defensive the Japanese forces have done exceedingly well. Anyone can learn a lot from this AAR.

WOO HOO!

Honda -> RE: Still life! (5/9/2006 6:35:25 PM)

Let's get it on...

PzB74 -> RE: Still life! (5/9/2006 8:31:38 PM)

[8D] Soon, soon....

Gotten used to manage my day without playing WitP and it's not easy to
break it back in! Rest assured that the time is well spent on not only work [;)]

Our yearly joint Army, Navy, Air Force Intelligence trip to England kicks of next
week and in 3 weeks Krakow is up for inspection!

Will try to get a turn out soon, maybe not before weekend as Summer replaced Winter
all in a sudden: went from 5 to 24 degrees [:D]

pauk -> RE: Still life! (5/14/2006 9:01:52 PM)

the weekend is over and no update yet[X(][:(]

(i'm not an addict, i'm not)

PzB74 -> Sarmi (5/14/2006 9:10:02 PM)

Ok we are back with a turn before a vacation trip to London next week.
Took a while to pick up the thread and the viewing wasn't particularly nice!

As some of you may remember we experienced som turn anomalies and had to do
the last turn over again, resulting in several different results of the same move.

The plan was to hit enemy carriers with a massive air strike from several bases
and use some CVE's as decoy. The Allied carriers didn't react and only half of the
strike ac took off, resulting in heavy losses. Mostly to Zekes and Oscars.

An air bridge is trying to reinforce Sarmi as we DON'T want the enemy to establish
a base here. So we're going to sacrifice as many non essential resources as necesary
to obtain this objective.

Further surface combat groups, air strikes, sub attacks and massive CAP formations will
be deployed over the next week(s).

Large formations of troops are being shipped into the area and our crippled carriers have
either reached a safe repair port or are on their way. Strong air formations are available
but it's a major pain to rebuild them after a single engagement. The know how that the Allied
uber CAP isn't going to allow a single bomber through is also very disheartening.

Not sure how much time I will have for WitP in the time to come, but I will provide the
occasional update!

Will upload a sit map in the next post.

Weekend's still not over Pauk [;)]

Situation Map: Sarmi

I've outlined the key formations in the area: the hope is that
the Allied carriers will launch disorganized air strikes against
a damaged destroyer and a supply train at Biak.

Some 250 fighters have been deployed defensively here.
Defensive victories are pre-requisites for any future offensive successes.

Great to walk along the decks of the HMS Nelson [:D]
Attaching a couple of teasers...This B-25 was one of my favorites at Duxford!

I have run the next turn and I can reveal that a US light carrier got hit by a aerial torpedo!
Unfortunately damage looks slight and 40 Betties missed 2 US fleet cv's [8|]

Will be a bit long between turns though, real life demands a lot of me right now...but the turns will
come nevertheless a bit slowly [:)]

Have to work out now, feel like a dump after eating English food for 5 days [:'(]

Strange...

Usually the way to find them was to order the AAR section by the number of it. The PzB AAR was the first one [&o], but the AAR of his three succeeding opponents (Wobbly, Nomad and Andy Mac if I am missing no one) were also in the top 15 [&o] [&o] [&o]

But right now, I can only see the AAR by Andy, it seems both other disappeared ?

I can't find the Wobbly thread it seems to have disappeared ? [&:] [:-] Maybe some moderator wanted to keep for himself the plan to invade India [:'(]

Here is the Nomad one: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=886652

PzB74 -> Close call - the Betties got through! (5/22/2006 11:09:57 PM)

Here is the combat report - not finished the turn yet.
Andy surged north with half his carriers and hurt one of my troop convoys.
Fortunately bad weather hid another one.

The remaining US carriers were too weak to fend of a strong Betty attack from
Palau. Unfortunately only 1/3 of the available Oscar IIs at Palau flew escort!
40 Betties got through and with a bit of luck a whole US carrier TF could have
been put out of action [8|]

Perhaps I must train my Betties to 80 instead of an average of 75 exp? Should be
a lot of crack 90+ exp pilots in the Daitais though.

Well, it's a beginning! I will have to disperse 2 large convoys, some 60 ships,
don't think I'll get it done tonight.

Spent a long time fine combing the Empire today.
Put things in order, scattered endangered convoys and prepared
defensive/offensive air/sea measures between Davao on Mindanao to Sarmi in New Guinea.

There are still 150 Oscars and 80 Betties at Palau as well as strong fighter formations
in Davao, Morotai and Biak. Light surface units have been ordered to protect the troop
convoy in Northern New Guinea.

If Andy decides to press on - which I don't think he will - he will face a strong defense.
The possible rewards includes valuable surface TFs and troop ships though....

Got tomorrow of, so the battle will be continued shortly [:)]

Quite a few transport ac were shot down over Sarmi - the bulk of the 2 Para regiments
were airlifted in. Got 4 forts (+99 annoying %;) up and an assault value of 360. Will
be interesting to see how long the place can hold.

Barge, fast transport and small convoys will continue to bring troops and supplies into
Norther New Guinea.

Andy moved his carriers back south - good! Got some crippled carriers and surface
groups out of harms way. Need to play defensive ball for a while now: moving air
groups out of china, need room for new trainees and all the 1200 slots are taken [8|]

Tomorrow the Myrt goes into production, good recon and later on an excellent fighter
bomber.

Nice thanks for the update :)

PzB74 -> RE: Assault on Sarmi! (5/25/2006 3:22:15 PM)

I'm unsure about how strongly I should resist the enemy occupation of Sarmi!

1. The Allies have by stepped the strongest and biggest bases along the Eastern coast of New Guinea.
2. Supply lines are getting longer and more difficult to protect.
3. Several big Japanese air and fleet bases now flanks the enemy spearhead.

I am tempted to make a stand and see how it goes - even if not a great success it should be possible
to force the enemy to take a long rest before pushing on.

My biggest problems:
*) Lack of A6M5s in the pool despite of building 500 pr month [8|]
*) Need more highly trained long range naval bombers and escorts.
*) Serious lack of available destroyers and cruisers.

It's REALLY hurting me that my new Frances bombers are equipped with bombs only.
Got 120 of them ready and I can't use them. One of the most serious bugs for Japan thus far.

I've sent a powerful group of Jack's to Biak to test them out - think they will perform well when
backed up by a host of other figther types.

The KB will be out of action until the late summer of 44, will make sure it returns like a bird
phoenix! In the manwhile the Combined Fleet will have to operate without proper air support.

I told Andy that we could upgrade to V1.801 but that we risked serious problems. Last time me and
Dave tried it we had to replay turns for a month. Nothing worked and I'm afraid of upgrading such
an old game as this with the latest patches.
