Mynok -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/27/2006 11:58:59 PM)

quote:

Noemfoor and Biak have been 'stocked' with supplies and troops. Barges will now deliver both to
Sarmi. Same with Woleai: moved a heavy artillery brigade there as well and a tank regiment is also
on the move. Minelayers from Ulithi will also make the place most unpleasent for Andy.

What are you using as a barge base here? Sorong? Amboina?

PzB74 -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 1:48:25 AM)

Sarmi has been assigned this dubious honor Mynok!

Without our search planes noticing anything an enemy invasion force has
crept towards Sarmi. 2 carrier TFs, a surface group and troop ships are now in the are of Sarmi.

This took me by surprise and a light cruiser was sunk while 2 destroyers were damaged. A strike from
Noemfoor failed to penetrate the CAP.

Countermeasures have been ordred (see operations map).
Some 200 transports will attempt to move reinforcements to Sarmi including 2 Para regiments,1 SNLF unit and an AA unit.
There are some 350 mines in place and forts are 4(+99%) Most annoying, Dagua also stopped at 99%. Forts should be reduced by
% and not levels. E.g assault lowers forts from 499 to 432.

Enemy approaches Sarmi

Again we have to rely on coordination, good weather, subterfuge - and a bit of luck - to
strike back at the enemy.

Here is what I've come up with:

The heavy cruiser Aoba and 4 destroyers will move towards Biak together with a smaller TF of 3 destroyers.
Perhaps we can disrupt the enemy and pave the way for our naval bombers!?

Noemfoor holds 110 fighters - Oscars and Zekes - as well as 40 Betty bombers. At Biak there are 50 Zeros/Zekes
and 13 Jills. All these fighters are put on escort. 34 crack Tojos have been moved in and put on 90% CAP.

On Palau 180 Oscar IIs with a range of 10 hexes have been put on escort missions for 120 crack Betty bombers - all
given a max range of 10 hexes). This should intercept any fleets just north of Sarmi.

At Woleai some 100 fighters and torpedo bombers have been put on naval attack missions in case the enemy comes within range.

To lure the enemy closer to our bases (and disrupt enemy plans for LRCAP and mutual/convoy protection) 3 cve's with a single
destroyer escort have sortied from Ulithi. They all carry Zeke groups on 90% CAP. One cve will move 3 hexes SSE of Ulithi. It has
been provided with LRCAP by 200 Zekes. The next cve will move 3 hexes further south by west while the last one moves a further hex
to a position just 6 hexes NE of Sarmi.

I am willing to deploy the surface fleet for hit and run mission from Morotai - the enemy carriers will be forced to stay in place
and it should be possible to spring 5-6 hexes into Biak and then home again. We got huge stocks of trained LBA and I'm only committing
a small part of this reserve, so the potential for another disaster shold be slim.

I admit that this plan relies on many factors but this is the best I can do for now. If Andy didn't commit all of his carriers
(which I don't think he has) it should be possible to hurt him. Let's see what Lady Fortune can do for us...I think it's about
time that someone gave Andy a sound trashing [:D]

PzB74 -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 2:47:16 AM)

I'm confused...I got a turn back from Andy and all my orders have been cancelled but the date
has progressed by one day. Can anyone explain to me how this is possible!? The same ships that were sunk
by destroyers and enemy carrier ac yesterday were destroyed again by an enemy battle fleet at Sarmi!
Even the barge numbers and the number of casualties are the same [&:]

This has happened once before and I couldn't make any sense of that time either. The time difference between the combat replay and the actual turn I sent Andy is 44 minutes! So no way I ended my turn prematurely. Is there a bug that can cause anything like this?

I've sent the turns for Ken and asked him to check it all out cause I'm tired of these anomalies!
Suggestions appreciated!

Here is the unedited combat txt:

Redd -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 4:22:59 AM)

[X(] YIKES! [X(] Are you guys gonna try to run that one over to see if it repeats?

PzB74 -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 5:05:25 AM)

Well, if you do take a closer look you will see that the last two combat reports have
the same dates: AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/25/44 & AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/25/44.

This means that the game hasn't progressed as I first thought. The 02/24/44 turn has therefore
been resolved twice: first with and then without my orders!

Redd -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 5:16:37 AM)

So you guys are gonna do what? Are you sure that you didn't send the same turn twice?[&:]

bbbf -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 5:48:56 AM)

I've had this happen once. Much confusion as I sent the turn back to my opponent thinking he hadn't had his turn and we ended up going in circles for a bit!!

This happened in Jan 42, so it isn't just a late war bug

PzB74 -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 12:50:26 PM)

Redd, I've checked it and I only sent the 02/24/44 turn to Andy once. In return I got the first
combat replay for the 02/25/44 turn which is posted on the top of this page. I then sent the 02/25/44 turn back
and received a new version of the 02/24/44 turn - this time without my orders being issued [&:] This is 'the bogus'
AAR which is posted on the bottom of this page.

Just can't understand how the US battle fleet can be present in one turn while only US destroyers were present in the
first one. Ships are being sunk, refloated and sunk again all over the place here.

Bbbfm - I've sent Andy a mail and explained the issue! Trying to figure out what happened. Would like to
understand how this could happend before moving on.

pauk -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 12:51:53 PM)

hm, your plan sounds good.

Andy problably don't expect that you will use CVs just after disaster...but, you need a luck on your side...

If i'm right, you count that Andy will have most of his fighters on CAP duty, right? (in that case fighters from escort "KB" should deal with his bombers (lightly escorted) from his two CVs and SC could hit and run...right?

But, what if he have more than two carriers (other CVs could follow his invasion cover group)? What if Zekes cant protect your CVEs (LR CAP from land over ships are only 20% effective as "regular" CAP from carriers)

It is really hard to say - go with your plan... the earlier one was based on prediction that Andy would do "x" but he did "y" and you run right into disaster...

But then again, Andy wouldn't expect you would do the same twice... (one episode from Black Adder just come to my mind: when general told Black Adder that he have brilliant plan...

BA: is it this plan frontal attack on germans positions in x area?
gen: ???? how did you know for plan?
BA: because, sir, we attacked 16 times before in x area and we lost about half million men...
gen: exactly! and that's why is my plan so brilliant. The enemy will not that we are going to attack again for 17th time!

Well, as usual i didn't offer any advice.... sorry

PzB74 -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/28/2006 1:20:53 PM)

Appreciate the good advice Pauk [8D]
I'm only sending 1 cve within range of the US carriers: trying to 'lure' them within range of
heavy LBA. If only 1 enemy carrier TF reacts it would be smashed! If the enemy force remains more
than 10 hexes away from Palau - nothing is going to happend [:)]

As you see we got another issue to deal with now - have you ever experienced anything similar?

I'm only sending 1 cve within range of the US carriers: trying to 'lure' them within range of
heavy LBA. If only 1 enemy carrier TF reacts it would be smashed! If the enemy force remains more

Ahhh... that is really cunning plan[8D]...

As for issue... i have no idea whats going on - i had situations when my Zeros from China!!!(Ichang) escorted missions in PI (from Manila) but this is really wierd...

Did you ask Andy if he have both TFs in the area?

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: Dagua falls! (3/30/2006 3:11:51 PM)

Good luck PzB.. I think you may need it

PzB74 -> RE: Dagua falls! (4/1/2006 1:20:00 AM)

33Vyper -> RE: Dagua falls! (5/2/2006 5:03:01 AM)

sorry about the gratuitous bump on this one....but I could not let this slip to the third page....and I think that some first timers to the forum should see this one....

I think the mods should sticky some of these classics

Honda -> RE: Dagua falls! (5/2/2006 11:07:29 AM)

Two votes for a sticky!

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: Dagua falls! (5/2/2006 5:06:22 PM)

PzB74 -> Still life! (5/2/2006 7:51:47 PM)

The war is scheduled to resume on the 6th of June or thereabout [;)]
Just got my long awaited ISP installed - gawd knows there was no end to complications.
Much overtime at work, so for now I'll play in the weekends plus odds and ends!

Planning to start a V1.8 Nik mod with my other opponent Mike Hall. Scrapped our old game,
too many bugs.

Anyway, thx for keeping the thread alive in my absence - I think the R&R has done me well! [8D]

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: Still life! (5/2/2006 8:07:45 PM)

Hi PzB .. glad your back and connected again.

I can heartily reccomend Nik mod .. makes air-air sooo much better. for late war i think the kamis will be quite effective.

Monter_Trismegistos -> RE: Still life! (5/8/2006 9:40:32 PM)

...ekhm... someone forgot that he has an AAR to do...

Since PzB has gone, my life lost its sense....
