whos with me?

Different strokes, different folks. I am a little bit of a loner. I have wondered about what it would be like to go to bars, get drunk, pick up easy chicks, etc. Then I sigh and go back to my game. Different temperment and personality type, I guess. (Women don't come with FAQ sheets...)

Tankerace -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 7:28:51 AM)

YOu guys wanna hear something funny?

There is this chic in my Modern Western Civ class, and I am trying to think of the right "opening lines" to get her to notice me. But as I do, thoughts suddenly pop in for my counter offensive in the South Pacific of my AI game. So, what to do? Plan out this small "recce in force" with the ladies, or plan the coup de grace against the Japanese empire? Arrrggggggg what to do, what to do.....

And then on top of that there is War Plan Orange, so its all argggg....

WitP is like a Borg Cube. You give it an inch, and then it assimilates everything in your freaking life.

Buy War in the Pacific (And then War Plan Orange [:D])

Resistance is futile.

Dude, games are WAY less expensive than girls.[:D]

Hi, When my GF wants to....see me. She buys a 12 pack of beer and she comes over.

von Murrin -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 8:44:04 AM)

I do too, but the extraneous fees can become rather daunting.[:'(]

I think it's by far better to wait until they are desperate and no longer care as much whether or not you can spend $300 on them in a week or whatever the going rate is. 35 is looking like a nice age.[:D]

That's a trap. After wedding they bring beer no more. This is a very sad side effect of being married. So now I have to ask my buddies to bring some.

Dude, the roses should be taken in the morning while they are still blossoming.

BTW. Got from library "Jap cruisers of pacific war" by Eric Lacroix and Linton Wellis II. It is the most comprehensive 2kg book i've ever read. 5 thumbs up!

Hi, Her trap is not working then. She has been buying me beer when she wants to....see me. Since 1993.

Halsey -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 8:59:19 AM)

I never trust demo's either. I do read some gaming magazines to see how they rate them. My favorite was Trotter at PC Gamer, but he's gone now. He still post's articles for The Wargamer, or is that Battlefront? Can't remember right now.[:D]

When it comes to choosing a wargame, experienced gamers usually have no problem selecting good games. For the new people just getting started, I would suggest gaming magazine reviews. These people aren't usually hard core wargamers, but they give pretty fair appraisals of new games.

$70, I paid $150 for SPI's WITP![;)] I still have all of SPI's mega wargames. WITP, WIE, CNA, WAR, Atantic Wall, Descent on Crete, HTTR, and I've played all of them.[:D]
These are only the WWII titles...

The best thing about computer games is.... No more rolling those GD dice!!!

mogami -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 9:02:25 AM)

Hi, Pacwar 1992 and WITP 2004 had the same price when released. I know I paid at least 50 for War in Europe (SPI board game) in 1976 or 77

mogami -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 11:26:18 AM)

Hi, WITP is more like an "end of the road" war game. Once you start playing it you don't have time for much else.

wild_Willie2 -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 12:51:33 PM)

Actually, I PLAN on cutting out of the playing when knight of the old republic 2 comes out in a week or so. This will be the real test to see how addicted I have become,

CAN I GO COLD TURKEY ON WITP ??

30 minutes!!!!!!!!?????????????[X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(]

You can not even scroll the entire map and look at all the units in that amount of time. Much less even try out the game engine.

Ever played PACWAR? That one is free here at Matrix.

If so, then this is the big, big cousin on steroids.

Yes, the first 30 minutes killed me. I'm used to Grigsby's previous efforts with the exception of UV, and the $80 spent was just that much more incenitive to keep me going. Demo? What's the first thing I did with this game, be that wise or not? I started tweaking Japanese production. For the 1st couple of days I really needed some discipline to return to it, because the first turn was so hopelessly long setting things up. Many first turns later I've probably narrowed it down to 1-2 hours, but that's after I developed a rhythm. The main frustration is to try to figure out a system to where you can go through the cities and TF's with relative ease without missing any of them. It's there in something of a crude fashion, but it can be done, it just takes a while to develope. The only bonus the JA full campaign would give you is you could see the opening PH attack. No, wait a minute. If you have the first turn of the PH attack, which occurs before you can give any orders, as a part of a 30 minute demo, then if the display is of legible nature, it will take 30 minutes just to go through part of the game you can't do spit about. Even with a faster display there's no way that 30 minutes gives this game a fair shake. Talking from a guy who is used to some complicated games, 30 minutes would probably bring only consternation over this game, as there is nothing on the line. I paid $80 and I considered that it wasn't worth going through the opening learning process. If I didn't remember that sometimes a new day brings a new brain, or that some of the old frustration wipes away when returning, I would've trashed it for sure.

I'm usually of the mind that demos do help, from buying bad games, but this game is an excessive exception. I just don't think most people would be willing to cut through the mire of getting any meanigful learning of it when that portion is free.

Well, I go to bars and get drunk... and then promptly start talking about WW2 with all my equally war-infatuated mates. [;)]

Easy chicks are out of the question - marriage has that effect. [:D]

Tom Hunter -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (1/27/2005 4:58:48 PM)

I am going to agree with Mlees I think the marketing strategy for the game leaves something to be desired.

Lowering the price but adding a scenario pack for $20 would produce more revenue over the long haul. The point is spread the purchasing out a bit. There is no question that the price point is high and that reduces sales.

I also think a clevely designed demo could help. I am not sure I would even give people the game in the demo. A movie showing a game turn occurring with some voice over explaining what is happening might be even better.

An alternative to a movie style demo would be allowing free download of the game with a feature that disalbes it after a month if you don't pay.

I am not saying this is exactly what Matrix should do but I am certain that there are other options out there and the game could become more profitable for the publisher if those options were explored.

Matrix has an excellent product but its also not a conventional game. In my experience unconventional products get the most benefit from unconventional marketing.

Tom

Matrix price for this game is not my problem (it is my wife that is the problem)

She does not care if I buy HOI2 and Flashpoint Germany 2 games $80 but to spend $80 on one game is something I will be in the dog house for

question is how can I sell my wife on this game when she thinks I spend to much time playing the ones I already own (UV WIR PACWAR HOI CIVIII TOS Korsun and many more) plus Chess rated 1700 plus on WCN

Tell her if you get WitP, you'll promise not to play any of the others anymore; she'll think that means you won't spend as much time gaming and will of course agree.[;)]

Well, for me, the game cost about 700 dollars to keep the peace around here.[X(] Go buy her that diamond necklace she wants, the diamond earrings, new car. Buy the game, while waiting for the disc to arrive, be very, very attentive to her, go everywhere with her.
Guaranteed that by the time the disc arrives she will be tired of you and tell you to go do something.

Avoid the shoe stores, you will go broke in them.[:-]
