You really need to go take a couple of the pills that help you calm down.

By the way, getting back to the topic of the thread, I think that demos are useful in evaluating complicated games like WitP, but only if the design team's time is not wasted by creating them. Screenshots and developer notes can help you understand how the game plays, its scale, and so on.

I've never really analyzed it, but I think I make a decision on buying a computer game based on its subject matter and what I can perceive of the approach the game is taking to it. For example, HOI2 addresses a game subject that is interesting to me, but, from what I understand of the game design, I won't be buying it. The whole concept of clicking on "go," then having to scramble to see what's happening and if I need to click "stop" to give orders lost me way back in the "Carriers at War" days.

Warfare1 -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/16/2005 8:48:41 PM)

I was going to buy the game but I balked at the price.

For Canadians the price for WiTP is a whopping:

$120.00 (plus change)

Almost $24.00 for shipping?

It's only a jewel CD case... [8|]

I realize it's a great game, but still...

marky -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/16/2005 9:01:44 PM)

hmmm

that is alot to cough up for a game

but

ive been playing WITP almost NONSTOP for about a week now

and i can tell ya

IMHO...

its WORTH it[:D]

testarossa -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/16/2005 9:02:19 PM)

I've paid $90 CAD for download. Considering average 2 evening game is $50 i think it is well worth the price.

Buy it. Canadian units are in it...a first for a game encompassing the Pacific War I think.

Warfare1 -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/17/2005 12:31:35 AM)

I would like it on the CD.

I only have dialup - so the download would take forever.

Still... $24.00 for shipping?

I have ordered thick books that cost less than that for shipping [&:]

Ah, well...

If you enjoy getting away and engulfing yourself in strategy and tactics, then by all means go and buy this. If you are the casual type who can't sit still for more than a few hours don't bother. I swear there has to be something fishy going on at work. The clock ticks alot slower than when I am home in-game trying to set each of my kiwi units to jump on the railways and head to Darwin [:'(] I would have paid $200 for this game. Thank god for Matrix games [:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] Ok , now that i am done, back to over analyzing the costs per hour of computer games.[8|]

I agree with you. I play UV and LOVE it.

And I know WiTP is a great game.

And I knew the game would cost around $100.00.

But why so much for the shipping ($24.00)? It's a quarter of the entire game's cost. After all, it is a slim, light CD jewel case.

And the $120.00 is still BEFORE taxes.

If there was a distributor here in Canada, then most likely the shipping would be free.

After all, Matrix makes NOTHING on the shipping costs, yet it is probably losing sales of the game because of this very issue...

Gem35 -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/17/2005 5:35:08 AM)

Just think of all the time you have on your hands now that your national sport is cancelled. You would get back your money's worth and then some by the time Lord Stanley's cup would have been raised. [X(]

I will drive to Seattle to watch Mariners. NHL should rot in hell.

Paulchen -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/19/2005 1:42:34 AM)

This game or the old great big fine game pacific-war are a life-style.
It will never find a price.
Because:
A game, that will produced in 1984 and still in progress,
what will it really cost?
I hope, this will the same for witp.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/19/2005 2:00:05 AM)

Canadians should definitely buy the game...they need something to do now that the NHL is kaput for one year.

$90 is nothing for a game that required that much time to develop. Compare that to $25 or $30 for Bill Clinton's biography.

I figure I got back at least $90 in geography lessons...for eg., I now know that if I want to go to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) from Perth...I go due North [;)]

Now I can also wow my friends by spelling Toelongebeotoungue and Soorabyeyuh.

The key to making a comparitive basis is to make sure that the object of comparison is actually something somebody would buy. You might as well had compared to buying a stick for $25-30.

I see how you must be going with the retail price, only I was saying that whatever it's called was worthless and not worth $25-30, such that infinite amount of whatever it's called would still not make for a sufficient comparison, that is, if we don't consider the pages hygenic capabilities in the little room.

sadja -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/19/2005 6:21:55 AM)

I can not believe we are still talking on this topic, worried about a 20-30 dollors different price. I never played UV but I played Pac war on a 486 and loved it. Like a bunch of people have said, this is not a game it is a lifesyle change. I have ben playing this game since August. I saw an ad in WWII magazine and got on the web sight. Never regeted buying it. I still need to get the maps.

There is just so much support on the forum pages and sheer entertainment from reading the AAR's. There is no way a demo would help, it would turn many people off. It isn't a point and shoot game, you have to think about what you do. Ohterpost have discussed that if a buch of new people bougt it they would get bored easily because there is so much to do and plan and think about. I know I'm rambleing it's the ADD (55years old) kicking in. We will nerer convice jpinard or other people who have already made up thier minds. Money should never be problem if you want to make it your priority to have this game.

Thanks for anybody who read this and just not blow it off. Don't have to say any more how much I love this game and if I new how much fun it was going to be I would have paid 200.00 for it, because some experinces are priceless.

I think you are being a bit harsh. You have completely discounted the value of whats it called as a paperwieght and doorstop or as use as kindling when the wood is a little wet.

You mean those are more lofty aspirations than serving for hygenic purposes in the little room? [:D] I wasn't attempting to define whatever it's called by it's many possible purposes, but only with it's most precise purpose.

Clealiness is next to Godliness. [:D] It does occur to me though, that said tome would not be as valuable in the Islamic world owing to different little room habits.

You are very persuasive. I retract my comparison of whatever its called to whatever I was comparing it to.

I was wondering about the no demo policy myself. Supposedly it isn't needed because demo users will get frustrated by the game and not want to buy the full version.

I was always curious of this myself.

tocaff -> RE: You're losing sales with no demo/high price (2/1/2014 11:15:24 AM)

I was thinking about my GC v Steve and the years of enjoyment we've both had. That being considered, even if that was my only game having been played with WITP the game was worth every penny of it's price. How many dollars for how many hours? What a bargain!
