Hi all,

Do you have any ETA for new version perhaps?

BTW, if you added many new thinmgs it might be prudent to release it now so that we can (through our games) BETA test it for you (i.e. it might be more difficult to trace possible problems down when many new features are added)...

Two weeks ago. [:D] Good job I didn't post the estimate at the time. [;)]

Still some more to do, don't get much done during the week so it depends on how much I can do this weekend. Current guess is a couple of weekends - but it's only a guess.

As part of the changes I'm making, I've been toying with the idea of implementing regions to which bases can be assigned for reporting purposes. There are still a number of issues I haven't been able to resolve so I'm not sure if I'll include this in the next release. One issue was with bases on, or near, a boundary: you'd often want to see info for bases close by but in the adjacent region(s). The simple idea of using a range filter around the selected base hadn't occured to me! [:(] Thanks, I think I'll take it up: it may even negate the need for regions altogether.

Great Stuff!!! I'm glad I could help.

Reg -> Yet Another Suggestion (9/10/2005 6:01:01 AM)

Any chance of including a time filter (with both start and end dates)???

I think this will be a useful tool, particularly when used with a location filter.

(ie Show all reports generated within 6 hexes of Guadacanal from the 10th to 14th of August 1942).

Hi,

Just started a PBEM (AB's SC 115) and playing allies. Can somenoe share how to use the utlility with combat save 001? Thanks[;)]

Bodhi -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (10/17/2005 8:43:29 AM)

As you're Allies, and to prevent ny possible synchronisation issues, I'd suggest asking your opponent to send you the 4 text files as well as the combat replay save. You can then use the manual option to extract the information from the text files.

patrickl -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (10/17/2005 10:44:53 AM)

Hi bodhi,

Thanks for your quick reply. You say 4 text reports. Where can I find them in the WITP folder. Manual option. Is it the 2 button on the right on the report screen and then press the bottom most button? Sorry, I am quite slow at such tihnigs!Thankx[:D]

Brausepaul -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (10/17/2005 11:11:09 AM)

The four text files are: asigint.txt, combatreport.txt, jsigint.txt, operationsreport.txt and they can be found in &GameFolder%/SAVE/

patrickl -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (10/17/2005 2:54:52 PM)

It would be nice if air balance numbers of bases were kept track of, with turn-by-turn net gains and losses. Sometimes it's possible to detect enemy carriers entering or leaving by changes in the air balance numbers because they are always reported accurately at each base for both sides, even in bases in which there was no possibility for conventional recon.

No ETA, still a bit of tidying up to do and little motivation at the moment as I'm not currently playing WitP.

New features include:

  • Paths saved with each game (for people with multiple installs)
    [image]http://witputil.ireiwa.com/images/new01.gif[/image]

  • LCU tracking and hierarchical view
    [image]http://witputil.ireiwa.com/images/new03.gif[/image]

  • LCU arrival listing
    [image]http://witputil.ireiwa.com/images/new02.gif[/image]

  • Leo's arrows for direction/speed of task forces spotted in the previous turn

Maximize window mode covers up top row tabs on right for me

EDIT: That was from my W98 15" laptop. It works fine on my WinXP 15.4" laptop.

Admiral DadMan -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (10/31/2005 10:33:28 PM)

One question I haven't seen answered: do you miss anything by running the replay on a different machine than you run the utility?

What if you run the 001 file on one machine, move the 4 .txt files to another machine, fire up the utility, have it mine the files. Is there something that the utility misses by not having the replay run while the utility is on?

Bodhi -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (10/31/2005 10:52:00 PM)

No problem to run the replay on one machine and copy the text files over: the utility only uses the data in these text files and the scenario data files. In this case you would use the manual update option ("Check for New Intel/Ops" button), rather than relying on the automatic detection of turn resolution.

Thanks for the heads-up. The UI really needs some attention, maybe it'll happen in the next but one release, whenever that is.

When transferring to a new computer, besides the game folders, what other files should be copied over?

EDIT: NM, I just answered my own question.

First, let me say I'm new to the allied player side...and am concerned about the amount of discrepancies between what I see in my 1.77 game and my opponents 1.77 game....though I must say I do better on his combat replay than mine!

OK, that being said...let me see if I have this right.

I'm the allied player. And instead of replaying the 001 combat file and getting my reports from that I can use the "Check for New Intel/Ops" button to manually load the new reports.

However, I first have to have the four reports e-mailed from the IJN player and downloaded in the proper file before this works. Is that right?

Worr, out

Correct

Correct, you'll need to tranfer the files from your email over to the WitP folder before clicking the "Check for New Intel/Ops" button.

worr -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (11/7/2005 10:09:47 AM)

Thanks, Bodhi.

What happens if you hit that button after you run 001 file? Does that erase the e-mailed files?

Also can you accept donations for this fine piece of software? Paypal maybe? The community owes you on this one. :)

Worr, out

Bodhi -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (11/7/2005 10:23:03 AM)

There's a simple check of the data of the four text files to ensure that you don't enter the same data more than once. It doesn't delete, or modify, any files apart from ones that it makes itself, so any WitP files, or files produced by WitP, aren't altered or erased, only read. (At least that what should happen.)

My advice for Allied PBEM players would be to get your opponent to send you the four text files as well as the combat replay file. Watch the combat replay to your heart's content with the "auto" update mode off. Then copy the four text files over to your WitP folder and run the utility update in "manual" mode. That way you should have the correct data both in the utility and in WitP when you're doing your next turn.

Hope this and the post in the other thread have answered your questions. If not just PM me later - it's time for home now.

Sorry, currently donations are not being accepted. [;)]

worr -> RE: WitP Utility - updated (12/06/2005) (11/7/2005 10:28:42 AM)

Well, I'd gladly pay the extra change for the service. This is an awesome utilty...and only just stumbled onto it. So at the very least accept my gratitude.

OK, and understood on shutting off the auto button just to be on the safe side. And I'll ask my IJN players to send the four text files from now on. But how do I do that without telling them about this utilty? Don't want to loose an advantage. [:D]

Ignore the other thread...best to keep the replies in this one.

Worr, out

Bodhi,

If a patrol plane attacks a ship or sub it is noted in the Op Report ("D3A Val attacking Flying Fish at 48,46"). I don't see it being represented in either the Op log or the Combat log on the Utility. Can you double check that? Thanks.
