Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Alamo (11/11/2005 2:34:19 AM)

Yeah unfortunately I mad ethe mistake of trying fortress Singapore so at best all I iwll get is Cadres from Malaya. Pauk has played the Malaya campaign extremely well and that makes India vulnerable.

Had I realised I would probably have done a Sir Robin and evacced Malaya Army to Burma or Sumatra or somewhere else.

Instead I burned up trasnports reinforcing Singapore and prepping for Johore but his BB's are putting an end to defence of Johore.

I am digging in at the key points in India Chandpur/ Dacca/ Diamond Harbour/ Madras/ etc but I am short of engineers and Infantry

Now itaint over by a long shot but I misread Pauks intention and committment to Malaya and I got a few Bdes retreated a few to many times.

Ah well will make India or Australia fun !!!!

I will be re readign PZB's conquest.

I am still convinced andf always have been that its stop them on the beaches or retreat to Delhi Ahmabad line mid India is undefendable.

(I am moving the 42nd BG to India to give me 5 full USAAF BG's to help with the defence.)

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Alamo (11/11/2005 11:18:57 PM)

Extremely nice move at Pagan by Pauk dropping Paras on my head.

But the rest of my army got out of the pocket so Im happy

They are beat up and disrupted but If I can get them to India they will recover.

p.s he hit Medan really hard which was annoying

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Alamo (11/12/2005 1:10:38 PM)

I am abandoning the river line and moving my Burma force north of the Irrawady ill try to hang on to Mandalay for a while.

I have came to a hard decision I got very luck with the 1:1 attack on Johore this turn as there was no air bmbardment and the naval attack was weak.

I cannot count on this for long so I am withdrawing to Singapore effective now I want to get the army out into a non malarial base with plesntifull supplies while it still has some power of resistance.

Andy Mac -> Banda Sea (11/12/2005 5:33:03 PM)

Here is a summary of the position in the Banda Sea.

To date my defence has been based on fleet in being detterant and he did back off originally however he looks to be coming in force now and my problem is I dont know where KB is.

I will send Force Z to fuel at Kendari and then pull them back to Koepang and will skirmish with my CL led Sqns

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Banda Sea (11/12/2005 7:43:23 PM)

I have been re working Australia Defences

North Austalia

Derby has the Barisen Regt (50%) and 2 BF's
Darwin - Wyndham has 1 CD, 3 BF (1 Dutch), PAF Aviation (about 5%), and the Darwin Defence Bde

On the rails heading to the North we have 3rd Aus Bde, 4th Aus Div, 5th RAA CD and 6th Cav Bde.

West Australia

1 BF, 2 CD, 13th Inf Bde.

Now I have 3rd Aus Div and 3rd Arm Regt are heading to Perth when they get there I will detach one CD unit and the 13th Inf Bde to cover Derby

The rest of the Australian Army is concentrating at Charter Towers or Sydney roughly 50:50

These are temp deployments until I know what I get from DEI and PI to help.

Andy Mac -> VICTORY AT SEA.......FORCE Z STRIKES BACK (11/12/2005 10:36:35 PM)

These are the turns that allies live for in the early game....

Force catches a light surface TF near Kendari (ill need to edit my previous post to make it look like I meant it !!!!....no no Force Z wasnt just going to refuel it was really out to ambush IJN TF's.......)

2 Rounds of Combat was a little worried by the two hits on POW but she is only 15 sys damage and can make 19 knots.

Houston may sink not sure 69 sys and float

But I sank a CL and about 5 DD's maybe 6 so thats a real result and has to set his timetable back for Kendari !!!!

In other news my LRCAP shot down numerous transports over Pagan a little late but better late than never !!!

Also I am withdrawing to Singapore Johore is undefendable in the face of naval bombardments.

But overall a morale lifting victory at sea !!!!

WOW, I never noticed the effect of one night engagement! [X(]

Very interesting, thanks Andy.

String -> RE: VICTORY AT SEA.......FORCE Z STRIKES BACK (11/13/2005 12:17:51 PM)

Yea, surface combat gives you a nice bunch of exp when it's intensive and you sink a bunch of ships. Musashi was 65/71 before the Koepang battles, and was 83/85 on the day before she was sunk. That was two or three nights of surface battles in a row. [:D]

But something tells me that you shouldn't push your luck with the BB's from now on, pauk managed to slow your big guns down, and imho they should be pulled back and only your fast cruiser forces should stay to harass, losing them wouldn't be such a pain as would be the loss of PoW or heavy damage to it, which would put it out of action for a long time.

Andy Mac -> RE: VICTORY AT SEA.......FORCE Z STRIKES BACK (11/13/2005 12:38:30 PM)

Aye I agree String.

POW is now 24 Damage and hasnt lost all float damage yet and his Subs are congregating on mass at Koepang so I am moving POW onto Derby and hence to Sydney.

I have fomed an ASW TF of my biggest nastiest RN ASW DD's lets see if I can bag a few subs.

My lights are staying temporarily but Ill not send them into Betty range again.

Once is luck twice is foolish...

The next turn was quiet but I need to consider abandonign Changsa.

I am holding my own for now but I am under constant risk of being flanked and the forts are falling its a matter of a few days before I will need to abandon the central cities I have put up a good fight but he appears to be concnetrating on this theatre.

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: VICTORY AT SEA.......FORCE Z STRIKES BACK (11/13/2005 2:49:50 PM)

Current status in China I have a few problems to resolve do I stay or do I go !!!

Its difficult to decide

I can stop him at Hengchow or at Changsa but not both and protect my LOC.

If he keeps the pressure on it will be tough

String -> RE: VICTORY AT SEA.......FORCE Z STRIKES BACK (11/13/2005 3:08:20 PM)

Changsha is a clear hex and Hengchow is a trap. I'd suggest pulling back to the interior and stop wasting supplies.

Andy Mac -> RE: VICTORY AT SEA.......FORCE Z STRIKES BACK (11/13/2005 4:18:57 PM)

Aye thats more or less where I am string pulling back will I think be safer.

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Alamo (11/17/2005 1:01:40 AM)

13th unlucky for some.

He is using Search planes on naval attack so I have sent a couple out as well

My lil ASW patrols hit and sank a Jap sub. Amboina based bombers hit me hard may make Koepang - Kendari no longer viable.

The pull out from Changsa and Hengchow is complete it frees up a lot of force so I would expect a rail line clearance offensive as I suspect a straight lunge at Chunging is impossible. Ceres will survive

The huge huge issue is the likely early fall of Singapore. I blew the defence of Burma and now with Singapore looking very likely to fall early I have to expect an early assault on India (its what I would do !!!!)

Now the good thing is that my battered Burma defence force will be able to withdraw back to India Mandalay is just not worth defending when my forces are this battered he will take it anytime he feels like it.

THose forces are better in India building forts and recovering disabled squads.

I very much doubt he will hit India until Java falls so I figure I have 60 - 90 days which will assist in making India secure but not 100% safe.

I have moved the extra BG to India and downgraded it to Bolos for training purposes.

Andy

I recapture Kweilin but wont be able to hold it long

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Alamo (11/19/2005 3:07:41 PM)

My PT boats are doing well I do not understand why he only sends in light TF's as they dont seem to be doing well.

It is delaying the fall of Kendari nicely.

I am sending in a light TF of my own to see if I can further disrupt theflow

Full evac of Singers starts tonight.

Every Float/ Transport I have is evacing I want to get as much as I can out. my fighters and bombers are doing well against his ground forces in Burma but with the army shot up as badly as it is I am going to withdraw from Mandalay.

Those forces will be more valuable in India and they will have a shot at recovering.

Burma has been a messup by me he should not have taken it with the forces he committed but ces la vie...

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Alamo (11/19/2005 3:13:25 PM)

Good result for me Trom Gp went in last night and sank 1 IJN CL and 4 DD's for the loss of Danae Tromp and 2 DD's (one a FDer)

An even exchange but a good one for me pity the transports werenot there.

Of course he took Kendari than night and I have a lot of damaged ships so Mrs Betty will destroy that TF next day !!!!!

Singers will fall soon as another fort level comes off it is all a matter of time

OK here goes nothing I have sighted mini KB approaching Timor lets see what happens

[image]local://upfiles/11987/EFFBF19ECE184876864474F43AA2DE69.jpg[/image]

Andy Mac -> Last Gasp Evacuation (11/19/2005 9:16:18 PM)

OK I have done a quick review of my land forces that got out of Singapore I am not checking the various engineers but I probably got fragments of about 2/3's of the engineer units.

Malaya HQ will now take over responsability for West India Command based in Madras allowing me to move 3 Corps to cover Dacca/Chandpur.

Of the ground forces I got out 11 of 12 INfantry Brigades but some are only able to provide rear area anti para coverage.

FMSV (22/49)
22nd Aus (9/10)
8th Indian (40/68) if it gets beyond Batavia
12th Indian (19/25)

will be allowed to take on replacements to make them combat capable and will be used for Western India command reserve based at Bangalore. (broadly they have the combat ability of 1 full Bde although the Aussie Bde will recover quickly as there is no other call on the replacement pool as will FMSV which I got out about 80% of the Inf of that Bde although its all disabled)

1st Malaya/ 2nd Malaya/ 27th Australia/ 6th/ 15th and 28th Indian Bdes all at less than 2/2 will not be rebuilt. I will give them 3 or 4 days replacements to flesh them out a little and then sent to North India Command to provide garrisons releasing 3rd Carbiniers for action in East India command.

(1st and 2nd Malaya will never rebuild the other 4 will eventually after all other units have filled out) i.e. assuming no combat losses I would attempt to rebuild the three Indian Bdes in mid 43.

If Pauk hadnt shock attacked straight away I would have got a lot more out as I had concentrated lots of transports etc to help get them out.

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Last Gasp Evacuation (11/20/2005 2:37:31 AM)

A very interesting turn Enterprise got attacked by Nells without seeing any enemy I figure the cat is out of the bag Im going to withdraw Enterprise and group to Perth where they can fuel.

In fact all ships will be withdrawn I think with the loss of both Kendari and Amboina a defence based around Timor is not possible

In other news a daring para raid siezed Yunan the git !!!! My garrison was one day away (1/3 of a corps) that was a class move by Pauk !!!!

I will need to retake the base or else its a dagger at my back.

Don't waste your time flying LR/CAP over an Air Combat TF. There's a co-ordination dispersal rule that really cuts its effectiveness.

From page 117 of the Manual:

7.1 AIR UNIT INFORMATION SCREEN
..."Long Range CAP over Air Combat TF’s is only 20% as effective as over other units since it’s harder to coordinate with an Air Combat TF that is constantly changing course and is using radio silence
."

Andy Mac -> RE: Last Gasp Evacuation (11/20/2005 7:27:37 PM)

See you learn something new every day !!!!

Only 4 fighters flew LRCAP no wonder if its only 20% effective.

Thanks Dadman.

I will be doing a full wash up of my options over the next few days after the fall out over the fall of Singers has settled.

But in principle Pauk will do one of 5 things.

1. Attack India
2. Attack Australia
3. Attack SOPAC
4. Attack Centpac
5. Sieze historical and sit back.

Personally 5 is the most dangerous for me any of the others can leads to strategic overstretch.

I have a 100,000 man 300,000 supply/fuel supply mega convoy assembling in SF it will be covered by 3 CV's and 3 BB's many CA's and CL's plus lots of DD's it will move the Pearl where it will break up to 20 or 30 small convoys and will garriso and supply most Centpac and Sopac bases
