This is a nice read... If KB's away, I say strike at Lunga fast and hard...

Sneer -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/19/2005 10:37:04 AM)

unless enemy screwed its job india is not safe in 3/42 - never
i brought once 8 inf div 1 bde + 9 arm rgt to chandpur and unloaded it in 2 days - there is no way to stop it and LBA often stays on ground during bad wheather periods and overal aerial damage is very small - in my last India invasion I did not lost any single ship

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/19/2005 1:17:54 PM)

Not safe I agree not fully anyway.

But I have 500+ bombers in India now in plenty of well supplied airfields with air HQ's at the improtant inland nodal AF's I have plenty of fighter and fighter bomber Sqns but am choosing not to engage

Forts are rising fast at Madras, DH, Calcutta and Dacca.

Chandpur is undefendable I would never try to hold it in the face of IJN BB's TF's from Akyab.

Dacca is a whole different ballgame.

I have Command HQ's 100% prepped for Dacca and Madras (the 2 most important objectives)

In defence each of the 4 now 50% TOE Indian Divisions is equal to a full strength IJN one.

I have 3 Armoured Bdes and an Armored Regt inland in plentifull supply resting
I have 1 Full strength UK Div plus most of the Burma Army resting in plentifull supply (7 more Bdes all at 80%+ TOE).

I managed to get 2 Bdes out of Singapore in reasonable shape and the others are recovering nicely and I have 2 or 3 other Indian Bdes at full strength

2nd UK and 5th Indian are not far away.

I have plentifull Base Forces and lots of Arty.

I am categorically not 'safe' but nor am I a pushover.

8 Divs even with 9 Armoured Regts will not be enough. He could take India but he will need far more than that.

Not to mention the 1500 + mines at Chanpur/ DH and Madras

And I am carefully not getting into a fighter war of attrition and letting him run down my UK pilot pool or Warhawk airframe pool until I have to.

He is sweeping my bases I say let him I dont need to defend the airspace over India until he brings in Bombers come May/June when the zero bonus is gone and I have Spits to protect my forward air bases then I will happily get into a war of attrition until then I am staying dormant for as long as I can.

I dont like the Sir Robin defence it annoys the hell out of me but after my screwups in Malaya and Burma it is theonly valid tactic. Anything else in these theatres is giving away free VP's.

I fought hard in the Banda Sea but against his Carrier Air I was not going to commit to a fight unless I have a chance of winning.

(My game versus PZB that I inherited has taught me a valuable lesson into just how much 'old' CA's and BB's are needed to cover invasion forces and screen Carrier TF's I will not waste a single ship on speculative attacks unless the return justifies the risk.)

If I take a risk and lose ships cest la vie but I will not lose ships when the reward is is not worth it. 20:20 hindsight yup but thats the way the game is

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/19/2005 1:28:11 PM)

I dont like the way that Pauk is targetting Chinese resources I am considering attempting to teach him a little lesson.

400 Bombers for one turn flattening a Japanese repair yard or summit at Hong Kong just to warn him off may be required.

Would need a lot of supplies but may well be worth it

Andy

Sneer -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/19/2005 1:29:03 PM)

I had comfort situation with Raver
all dutch minelayers sunk in early days
Force Z and her escort ships sunk too
Revenge cought later
Burma armt split surrounded and destroyed in 80%+
Risk a bit to wait for few weather days and managed to take DH on day 2 with only few damaged ships and moderate ground losses
after 1 day I had 1800 AP unloaded as well as 500 tanks ;-)
i estimate Raver had up to 150 bombers and 100 fighter ready in theater

Still think that until 3 big UK units are in position you are far from being safe
BTW Japan doesn't need to take Karachi to claim success in India

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/19/2005 1:31:38 PM)

p.s. I really really hate China. It irritates me that in almost every game I play my opponents use the ahistoric ORBATS to try and knock China out of the war WITH THE STARTING FORCES

Had they not went for Singers or PI and used those forces I would not have an issue I just detest getting into a land fight in China.

Its an impossible balance issue either the Chinese ORBAT is historic and in late 42/43 allied players conquer China or it is as it is and the Japanese walk all over it its just one of the few things that pisses me off in WITP

Aye I am reading your AAR with Raver.

But a few differences on 7th March between his position and mine

Force Z is intact and safe.
I have plentifull CA's and DD's that I will only commit when I have to
I have c 3,500 - 4,000 AV in India now and getting stronger every day that passes as my units fill out (I managed to get the Burma Army out mostly intact but disabled i.e. lots of squads recovering from disablement every turn)

AF's at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Asanol etc etc are increasing have base or aviation regts and as protected inland airbases allow me to disperse my strike aircraft away from Pauk's BB's runs

Dacca , DH and Calcutta are lvl 5 forts and Madras is lvl 4 but growing very quickly

Malaya Army Command HQ is prepping for Madras
SEAC for Dacca
3 Corps for DH
Burma Corps for Dacca

All of my major ports are heavily mined and critically I have over 900 combat aircraft in India including 5 USAAF Gps of Liberators, Forts, Mitchells and Marauders a strike wing of 70+ torpedo bombers and these are all rested trained pilots screened by plentifull numbers of P39's (3 Sqns) Hurricanes (7 Sqns) and Warhawks/Mohawks (7 Sqns) and lastly Buffalos (3 Sqns) oh and not to mention the unloaded F4F's and SBD's off of Lexington and in the next 8 days I get a further 4 Hurricane Sqns and another Blenheim Sqn

By avoiding action to date my sqns are intact and trained and my UK pilot pool is in healthy surplus.

In short while the situation is serious 1800 AP's just wont cut it IMO

However I agree until I get 5th Indian (60 Days) and 2nd UK (8 Days) I wont feel 100% safe.

Andy

PzB74 -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/21/2005 2:29:35 AM)

At least you don't have to worry about China in our game Andy [;)]

Clicked on your other thread earlier today by mistake - clicked frantically to get back out again asap...
This old P3 is not much more than a typewriter.
Just sent you a combat.txt report. Takes forever to run games on this old bat, so turn tomorrow!

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/21/2005 11:53:08 AM)

Heheheh I still have to fight the urge to check your thread fro my daily fix now that I am the opponent !!!!!

China hmmmm if only I could accumulate enough supply to upgrade those Chinese Sqns then I would give your milk run pilot training runs a fight !!!!!

Re India I would point out although I am happy I could stop an invasion at Chandpur/ DH or Madras an invasion by 8+ Divs at the base between DH and Madras would give the Allies a very nasty strategic problem even though its not on the rail line.

In addition I have no doubts the Japanese could take Ceylon if they were serious about it and that would expose the West Coast of India again giving the allies an extremely nasty problem.

An Invasion is always a viable possibility all I can do is make sure that the obvious routes are blocked to the best of my ability.

PZB made me paranoid about India but I follow my own strategic advice to Wobbly (whether it will work or not who knows) which was always have a fall back line ready in case the japanese get loose into Central India.

Forts at Ahmabad/Delhi are lvl 2 and rising this is my fall back line if the japanese breakthrough and get out of madras the whole of India is undefendable below this line as the allies just cannot compete on a mobile battle in Central India in early 42 and should only fight a delaying battle making sure (wherever possible) that units are not retreated or cut off (Subject always to the WITP movement issues that plagued Wobblies retreat)

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/24/2005 5:04:06 PM)

More quiet I have sent the Saratoga Group on a raid into the Solomens he just hit Narau so I am diverting thataways I need to be carefull because I have lost KB.

China is driving me nuts I am having to spend so much sodding time there I only tend to play that theatre after its to late as I have ZERO interest in fighting a landwar in China !!!

Pity that it seems to be one of Pauks main goals.

India Burma is quiet
Australia is Quiet apart from Narau Pac is quiet

I dont think Pauk is going to do much until Manila falls.

1st 300,000 tonne supply convoy arrived at Perth it will take me a few weeks before shipping arrives to tranship it on elsewhere.

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/27/2005 8:36:26 PM)

Saratoga TF hit found and destroyed a small convoy 4 AK's with a base force on the ocean floor...

I am getting more pissed off by the focus on the war in China.

Why we are figting there I have no idea but I have sent in some heavy bombers to CHungking to try a few reprisal raids hopefully Pauk will get the message and back off if he wants war in China then I will use Heavies to lay waste every resource etc for 13 hexes in every direction. I do NOT want to fight in China but if he makes me I will try to make him regret it even if it means shipping half the RAF Spitfires to Chungking to keep the airfield open while I destroy his industry.

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (12/30/2005 1:32:40 AM)

OK Good few turns...

Ist my retal raid destroys 24 out of 25 at HK's repair yard ad destroys 1/3 of the HI.

Lets hope he backs off now I am really only doing this to try and send a message I do not want to fight in China and I find this focus on that theatre to be a real pain in the rear.

At the crossroads he got 1 to 1 and thats all.

Lastly but very importantly I spotted a CV and AK's heading west from Bali at least 2 convoys perhaps more....

Hmmmm

Australia perhaps Perth.

As a precautionary messure I am assuming its North Coast or Perth

3rd Aus Div is 120 miles north of Perth heading to Derby and has been turned round

1st Aus Corps is at Charter Towers I will start moving it North West towards Darwin/Derby it has 1 Aus Inf Div, a Cav Div an independent Inf Bde and an Armoured Regt under command so it is a potent force to reinforce the North Coast.

In addition I am ready to move a US Div and 2 NZ Bdes to Aus if required to free up 7th Aus Div and the Independant Inf Bde which is tasked with South Coast Protection

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (1/2/2006 10:44:19 PM)

Quiet few turns I have lost sight of the enemey CV and AP TF's so im getting worried he could be going north or south.

I am sending out a DD TF to investigate it is a sacrificial lamb but an essential one.

Andy Mac -> Where oh where will the Japs Strike !!! (1/4/2006 2:09:45 AM)

Spotted by a floatplane last turn I have no idea what he is up to it was near tyhe bottom edge of java well to the West.

If I was a betting man I would guess its Australia his Carriers were last spotted in this area and I spotted a load of transports a few turns back.

I ordered 1st Corps to the junction below Darwin BUT I have changed my mind without 1st Corps the East Coast is just to exposed if he lands 6 or 7 Divs at Townsville or Brisbane I will need my ready reserve in the East.

Going to review defences in Australia not done that in a while !!!

North Command (Between all bases about 30k supplies)

Darwin Forts 4

4th Aus Div
2 x US Tank Regts (20%)
30th Aus Bde
Darwin Bde
1 DAF Aviation plus about 3 Base Forces in recovery

19th BG (B25C's)
VS2 18 SBD's
4 and 5 RAAF (Hurricane 2's)
1 Dutch Fghter Sqn and a Dutch Recon Sqn

Derby Forts 3

Barisen Regt (60%)
6th Aus Cav Bde
About 3 Base Forces and 2 DAF Aviation

2 Search Sqns a Biplane Recdon Unit and 12 RAAF (Hurricane 2)

Derby was supposed to get 3rd Aus Div but I turned them back to Perth I will need to fing more combat troops to secure Derby. In the North Derby is the weak spot I am going to move 1st Cav from Wyndham but that will leave Wyndham exposed.

Not enough troops for everywhere.

Wyndham Forts 3

1 CD Unit
1st Aus Cav Div
3rd Aus Bde
1 Dutch BF

23rd RAAF Sqn (Hurricane)
1 Catalina Sqn

Broome Forts 3

1 Base Force

West Command - Perth (340k supplies from 1st Karachi superconvoy forts lvl 7)

Units at full strenth
3rd Aus Div
13th Aus Bde
3rd Aus Tank Regt
1 x Aus Base Force
2 x Aus CD Units

Units Reconstituting
4th USMC Regt
Batavia CD
1 x Base Force

Actually Perth is stronger than I realised
22 and 25 RAAF Sqns (Wirraway and Hurrican II's)
2, 14 and 30 RAAF (Hudson and Beauforts)
One Dutch Float TB Sqn and VT2 off of Lexington in Devastators

In Port 17 DD's ready to sally north against invasion convoys hitting the North Coast

South Command

Base Forces and Coastal Arty only have 12th Bde on Tasmania but thats the only real combat unit in theatre.

I am going to ship in some Kiwis and a US Div at some stage if he invades North Australia
6th Div will remain in south when it arrives to assist in securing south.

East Command

Brisbane

2nd 5th and 7th Aus Divs plus BF etc this covers east coast and is ready reserve for Sydney

Townsville 31st US RCT (10%) plus a Base force and CD unit

Charter Towers

1st Aus Corps

2nd Cav Div
1st Inf Div
1st Inf Bde
2nd Tank Regt

1st Corps is the ready reserve for both North and East Coast I had started to move them Noerth but am considering turning them around until I get some decent intel

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (1/4/2006 2:16:41 AM)

Actually the more I think about it I think I need to shift 3rd Div as originally planned I just dont have the combat power in the North and the forts are coming along nicely in Perth so I think I will send 3rd Div to Derby after all and hold 1st Cav at Wyndham.

1 Strong Inf Bde a tank Regt and a recovering USMC Regt should be enough to stop raids and even 3rd Inf wont stop a 6 Div assault.

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Darwin - the git !!! (1/4/2006 4:39:24 PM)

Quiet turn more action at Derby I am going to detach a few DD's and subs from Perth for recon and convert one of the B25C sqns of 19th BG into B24's for LR Naval Search....

He has me nervous !!!!!

This could all be a massive bluff and he is about to land 10 Divs at Madras !!!

Andy

Andy Mac -> KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/5/2006 11:16:58 AM)

2 DD's out of Perth sacrificed themselves getting me priceless intel.

KB is about 400 miles north of Perth heading south.

It is Perth he is hitting. No transports sighted so it may be a raid but I wouldnt bet on it.

I only have 1.5 Divs worth of troops there not enough to stand up to the 6 + Divs he can bring but I need to try and fight I havent transhipped the supplies out of Perth yet so if he takes int he gets 300k of supplies.

I am kicking myself about that now

32 Hurricanes will not last long against KB's zeroes but I need to try.

15 DD's in Perth Harbour are ordered to Adeilade where my Fleet will gather

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/5/2006 11:19:55 AM)

Oh crap all my fuel is at Perth awaiting transhipment Adeilade is gas less !!!

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/5/2006 11:33:04 AM)

Hmmmmmm a troop ship in the waters around Perth looks like its confirmed its not a raid he has at least a landing force on board. (and my US sub actually hit something !!!!)

Looks like my Sig int was accurate for once. (I tend not to rely on Sig int as its to easy to spoof for a Japanese player but I did have indications of an Inf Div prepping for Perth a few days back - not that it is that relevant as I have also had indications of prep for Darewin/ Derby/ Madras/ DH/ SF/ Pearl etc))

I am going to move the Sub Sqn based out of Derby to close the top end of the passage and have reversed course with the ex sub transports that were heading towards Sydney repair yard (another 8 subs all at 20 - 30 sys damage)

My fleet is concentrating at Adeilade but I have no fuel its all at Perth !!!

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/5/2006 6:24:58 PM)

Hmmmmm doing some thinking as I see it Pauk could be up to a number of things.

1. Most likely Pauk will land 6 Divs take Perth and march north and south keeping me busy possibly with additional landings on the East Coast.

2. Its a diversion he has 50 men and a dog on a couple of AP's to drag my limited reserves out of position and then lands in India or on the East/ North or South Coast

3. Its a bit of both 1 - 3 Divs attacking Perth to get my attention and capture the place on the cheap (This would be a problem for Pauk as 3rd Aus Div will be back in the city in 2 days) while he prepares a really heavy blow elsewhere.

4. OH crap this just occured to me what if it isnt perth that hes after at all what if he sails right by and lands 6 Divs straight over the beach at Sydney !!!! now that would be nasty and KB could interdict reinforcements from NZ or US.

I really really dont like this not knowing his intentions

Of them all 1 is the most likely but 4 is most certainly the scariest !!!!

Andy

Andy Mac -> Subs WTF !!!!! (1/6/2006 1:15:34 AM)

I have 4 subs crippled and 1 sunk in a single day in deep water by KB sorry but thats just plain wrong thats better results than Coastal Command could get on its best day and it had the equipment training and doctrine and experience that the IJN just doesnt have sorry really really not happy about this

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/7/2006 3:59:00 PM)

Yup thats about it although they have hit a few Transports in the last few days.

Double update the key thing is how much is he ging to brting in I managed to get a CD unit on its way to Derby diverted to Perth into the city and 3rd Aus Div has arrived 4th USMC Regt is also recovering very very quickly.

So I guess hes going to take some time to take the city even with 6 Divs

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/7/2006 5:58:26 PM)

Confirmed its an invasion....

Well he told me it was.

Ill wait to extract appropriate damage on his landing force but against 6 + Divs I have no chance....

I am waiting on the landings to start my main worry is that he just bypasses and is actually after the south coast./...

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/8/2006 1:02:09 AM)

I just started reading this .. coo rather exciting !

Good luck and thaks for posting [&o]

why werent the hurricanes airborne when KB hit ? only 3 zero escorts too .. damn opportunity missed unfortunately.

i have my fingers crossed he hits perth , if he splits and hits the south coast industry instead ! YIKES ..

One up side is he cant invade india at the same time .. well not very well anyway.

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/8/2006 1:11:41 AM)

Thanks !!!

Yup I figure Ill know one way or the other after he lads forces.

Dont forget he hasnt yet.

It could be a massive diversion ...

My biggest fear actually.

Against 6+ Divs and armour the force I have at Perth has no chance....

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT (1/8/2006 4:44:28 PM)

Hmmmm weird he has landed at a non base hex cutting off Perth looks like hes going for the kill. 3 Divs landed so far I expect a second wave any day now.

I am not sure what the game plan is but it certainly looks like killing blow.

OK when he takes Perth then what. I could evac now and try to force my way through but that means another retreat and I just cannot bring myself to run I have plenty of supplies 2 good strong units dug in with decent forts and prep.

Its damn near the 1st time I have had this since Johore so I am going to dig in and hold for as long as possible.

3 Divs so far if he committs 3 more I know India is safe

Andy
