Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 149768 troops, 950 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 41201 troops, 240 guns, 0 vehicles

Okay then - anyone hazard to guess how long I will last in Manila - supply is low but not out, disruption and fatigue is obviously high, leaders are the best available

Two months after it began, the Battle of Manilla has come to an end. Thousands upon thousands have been killed, wounded or have simply disappeared, and the Philippino capital lies in utter ruin, mute testimony to the callous disregard for the Philippino people showed by the former government and its American masters.

Personally directed by Southern Area Army commander, General Kazuo Dohihara, the Imperial Army overran the final enemy strongpoints today and forced the surrender of more than 50,000 enemy troops. The first phase of the war is now complete and we can move forward.

THE FOLLOWING LEAFLETS ARE LOADED UPON TRANSPORT PLANES AND WILL BE DROPPED ACROSS THE WHOLE OF THE P.I

How quaint...[8D]

Anyhoo, the score situation has changed decisively with the end of the campaign on Luzon. So, since nothing much happened today, I'll post the score screen.

Bill Durrant -> RE: War Report - 21st of August, 1922 (12/28/2005 6:36:43 PM)

Nothing doing. I am now on tenterhooks awaiting the next area of operations. West Coast reinforcements seem a looooooooong way away

Terminus -> RE: War Report - 22nd of August, 1922 (12/28/2005 7:12:16 PM)

I shall endeavour not to keep my honourable opponent in suspense for too long; things are in motion.

Bill Durrant -> RE: War Report - 22nd of August, 1922 (12/28/2005 8:46:51 PM)

Nothing happening other than a number of my ships damaged in our Wake Island encounter are taking on alarmingly high amounts of water - including a BB[:(]

Terminus -> RE: War Report - 23rd of August, 1922 (12/28/2005 9:21:30 PM)

Another American destroyer, damaged in the Second Battle of Wake, was reported sunk at Midway today.

Elsewhere, a bit of an operational pause. The collapse of Manilla was very sudden and now I have to move some shipping around and rest some of my more heavily damaged army units, before I'm ready to resume the offensive.

Bill Durrant -> RE: War Report - 23rd of August, 1922 (12/29/2005 12:35:10 PM)

very quiet

Terminus -> RE: War Report - 24th of August, 1922 (12/29/2005 12:59:38 PM)

Perhaps a little too quiet? We'll have to see about fixing that.

Today's only occurrence was the capsizing of US destroyer Spriston at Midway, yet another victim of the Battle of Wake. I wonder what happened to some of his more heavily damaged battlships?

Hmm. I can't find her - don't think she is in the game - photo is circa 1915 - anyone?

Meanwhile a picture of a ship that is arriving in the pacific very soon

The Ohio arrives in San Diego on April 1st, 1923. As for the Argus, I'll be happy to dispose of her for you.[:D]

Speaking of which, the US battleship Connecticut joined the growing number of artificial reefs at Midway this turn. It's hardly fair to exchange a 12-inch clunker for one of my precious 16-inch ships, but them's the breaks...

As part of Operation Grab The Free Victory Points, Imperial Rikusentai of the <censored> today took control of San Jose, 120 miles west of Manilla.

Hey, nobody was more surprised than me at how long this took. I did, however, commit some mistakes in this battle, most notably failing to bring in proper HQ support from the start. Still, it's done now, and I'm getting ready to implement the next phase of my plan.

Just sailing around a bit, looking for something to do, enjoying all the fuel they have to use. A bombardment followed, and this time I actually remembered to turn off "escorts bombard". Below is the most heavily damaged of my ships after his CD response:

As the fourth month of war begins, US ASW forces at Midway got lucky. Imperial submarine No. 34 executed a successful attack on the American destroyer Sinclair, only to be pummelled into the ocean floor by depth charges. That makes a grand total of TWO submarines sunk in three months of fighting. At this rate, the last submarines will be sunk sometime in late 1955!

Elsewhere, Imperial troops landed at Roxas.
