Did you edit the campaign to use the French, or the Free French OOBs? If the French, it could be a restriction on using the same nation on both sides.

FlashFyre,

You are correct.  There does indeed seem to be a restriction on buying French troops.  I guess the campaign does not allow French vs. French matchup.

But since I'm already getting started with the Canadians, I'm not thinking too much about the Free French right now.

Alby,

If you choose the French flag in the campaign editor it will let you choose that flag.  But the problem comes when you try to start the campaign and go into the troop purchase screen to buy your core.  You can't purchase French troops and you don't even have a French A0 command unit.

I suspected as much, just wondering why it says "free French" when you hover over, when in fact it is "french"....another wierd buggy item I reckon.

You know, now that I think about it and look at your core forces...
you will have alot more units using canadians or one of those other nations because the units are most likely cheaper...so it might be more of a challenge to just use the USA.

Alby,

Not sure I follow you here.  Are you saying I'll have a more challenging campaign using the Americans than the Canadians?

Alby,

Still not sure I follow you.  Why couldn't I purchase a large core using the Americans?

But I guess my real question is:  Why does a large core favor the human player and hurt the computer?

I'm only a few turns into this campaign.

What do the rest of you say?

Should I play the Americans with a small core?

I can re-start fairly easily at this point in the campaign, but I don't want to play any farther in my Canadian campaign if you want me to re-start. . .

Alby,

After further thought, I have two concerns regarding your proposal.  First, If I use the Americans, then I get the overwhelming American artillery advantage.  Second, any nation that starts with a Country Training experience rating of 59 is going to have a large core simply because the units are less expensive.

After even further thought, I'm comfortable just continuing what I started with the Canadians.

Perhaps after I finish this Long Long Road, then I can try something new and different.

Alby,

My settings are posted towards the bottom of page 2 in this thread.  But the answer is yes, I am using Country Training ON, and I did not manually set my ratings.

Time for me to get back to the battle now, my Canadians need me.
