25th March 1944. A: 12/952 (8), X: 7/204 (0). A better day for my AF attacks than the ground destroyed figure suggests, with 11 a/c damaged.

MTO: The usual Tac F stuff, with lots of weather cancellation.

ETO: A small number of 8th AF and 9th AF sweeps do well, with a 78th FG P-47D sweep to Leck AF in Schleswig-Holstein attracting LW interceptors from Holland, who take casualties when they break for home on the return leg over the German Bight.

BC: 3 Group to Bochum. Another good raid, although some bombloads hit Bochumer Verein ARM rather than the city-centre RR I'm aiming for. 1/240b, no NJG activity.

26th March 1944. A: 39/3671 (35), X: 3/0 (2).

MTO: The 15th go to Ploesti against nil opposition. Not that OKL need to worry about that, as they miss the usual targets; Columbia Aquila OILR 27% and Targoviste OILS (which requires no Flak defence at all, provided the local witch-doctor has a plentiful supply of USAAF bombardier voodoo dolls), 0%. The 12th AF A-20's do some excellent bombing for the first time in six months, Kostinbrod CHEM 98% and SIAP Leghorn OILS 99%, and only lose a few to Flak. Bzzzt... does not compute.... The Baltimores visit a rare industrial target but miss Berat-Kudowwz II OILR from 16,000ft.

ETO: The 8th head for oil targets around Hamburg, and do some good bombing as well; Eurotank OILR 99%, Shell-Grassbrook OIL 36%, Bucken OILS (sec) 25% for 0/668f 6/384b 0e. Nil opposition against the tactical raids over France and Belgium.

BC: 4 Group to Minden-Weser PORT, 0/240b and all on target. Also 0/24b LSNF to Berlin, scattering 4,000lb Cookies over Reichmarshall Werner's luxury residences and personal cinemas. 205 Group head to Austria and bomb Hall, and suprisingly actually manage to do so; all bombloads reported in the target area to the suprise and disbelief of Allied High Command.

PR reveals the 2nd Battle of the Ruhr is progressing reasonably well; recent targets include Bochum 60%, Bottrop 68%, Oberhausen 28% and Mulheim 77%.

27th March 1944. Rest day.

28th March 1944. A: 102/3368 (35), X: 53/1036 (0).

MTO: 15th to Ploesti again, 1/240f 17/256b 11e, for the usual mixed bag; Dacia Romana OILR 99%, while the voodoo witchdoctor at Targoviste laughs at another attempt by the USAAF to defeat his powerful juju. Such combat as there was, was essentially another late-scramble cripple-hunt. The usual tactical raids in Italy otherwise.

ETO: The 8th back to oil targets in northern Germany and do some excellent bombing against nil resistance, 2/523f 11/256b 3e and Hitzacker OILS 99% and Ebano OILR 100%. The 9th AF do astonishingly well in support, with the Marauders doing 2/464f 0/64b 9e for Hamm OILS 99% and Ludwig BBFAC 100%. Some skirmishing inbound, but nothing serious. 2TAF do most of the air combat covering the Marauder's return over the coast on the return; 20/338f 2/47b 25e, and even a shallow Tiffie raid to St Gobain CHEM doing 2/128f 1/48b 13e.

BC: 5 Group go deep to Leipzig for the first time in a while and get almost all the bombs hitting the city but take some significant losses, 21/360b although the NI's claim 6 for 6 in return. I must remember to plot them further away from known Flak nests. 0/36b LSNF mossies to Berlin for the usual nuisance raid.

29th March 1944. A: 62/3029 (18), X: 19/718 (0).

MTO: 15th AF return to Ploesti OILR, but do no significant damage. 0/288f 9/256b 1e. Various boring Italian Tac raids.

ETO: The 8th AF go to Leverkusen RUBBER 100% and Rhenania FUEL (S/T) 30% for some combat on the return leg, 11/336f 20/256b 24e. The Tac raids preceeded but did little due to little LW response, although the 9th AF Marauders hit Lunen POWER 100%.

BC: 6 Group to Schwerte 2/336b, all in the target area with no NJG response. Leipzif PR'd at 35% which is a little disappointing.

30th March 1944. A: 55/1854 (26), X: 13/369 (4).

MTO: Tac raids only, with a single brief skirmish between the MAC Spit IX's escorting P-40's to Pescara and some IAR 81's chasing a 15th AF P-38L strike to the northern Adriatic.

ETO: The 8th AF to Hannover in poor weather; most of the losses to Flak with 7 lost on the inbound leg alone to RR Flak on Dutch/German border AF's. Grrrr... 1/426f 21/256b 7e and only targets of opportunity (T/O's) hit due to cloud cover. The 9th AF send out some P-47 sweeps to cover the return, who take plenty of casualties due to the usual AF-strafe/flak-cripple cycle, 20/192f 2e. 2 TAF resting and absorbing new Spit units.

BC: 1 Group continue the 2nd Battle of the Ruhr on a raid to Wattenscheid, 1/316b and all bombloads on target or a couple on neighbouring urban areas. 205 Group to Ploesti, who manage the astounding feat of scattering bombs around the area without actually hitting anything. Some NJG activity, but they don't need to shoot any down as 205 Group are a net drain on the Allied war effort at the moment. Time for them to get some Halifax III pathfinders with H2S and maybe the local witchdoctors will take them more seriously.

Has your success or failures advanced or delayed any invasion times yet? Also do you need to bombard the defencive lines in italy to help your boys move forward?

31st March 1944. A: 1/306 (1), X: 0/0. Bad weather sees a quiet day to round out the month, with only BC active.

BC: 3 Group to Hamburg with all bombloads in the T/A, 1/240b, and LNSF to Berlin for a scattered raid, 0/24b. No NJG activity.

Not really; the invasions of Sardinia and Corsica were a little earlier than usual, but that's a regular occurance in the game. I'm guessing D-Day will be on 4th June 1944 at this rate. I think I've managed to see it right at the end of May in one game vs the AI, but never that early against a human opponent. But then I'm really not doing enough industrial damage to trigger that, if indeed the game really does model it.

Also do you need to bombard the defencive lines in italy to help your boys move forward?

Yes, but the bombing level to achieve decisive results on the ground campaign is astronomic, and really boring to play out IMO, although more experienced gamers like Werner or HS might have a different opinion.

When someone is killed and is an ace are they removed from the list or do they stay on the kills list listed as KIA until they no longer have enough kills to be on it?

KIA, WIA and MIA stay on the list till there are more higher scorers.

When I have time, there's some other changes to be made to this list, but I'll save them up for now...

nope, not giving hints...

And now, the stats for March 1944 (assuming my Excel equations are working correctly):

Overall - A: 1,706/56,403 (630aa), and X: 857/14,371 (38gd). Allied sorties rose by 16%, while losses remained static at the February level (1,706 this month vs 1,733 in Feb); giving a reduction to 3.0% vs 3.6%. So far, so good, but this hasn't been matched by an improvement in bombing results, and OKL have improved their attritional exchange further - their sorties increased fractionally (by 6%), but their losses reduced to 6.0% from just over 8%. This is largely attributable to the cripple-hunting strategy; allied flak losses rose to 37% from 30%, while ground kills rose to 4.4% of the Axis total from 3.3%, which indicates how the LW is avoiding repeated big air combat battles. Worst still, the KIA/MIA count this month is down to 539/12, which is half the level I really need. So, OKL's attrition management policy is paying off, and is becoming more efficient.

Within that, aircraft losses tell the following story: Axis losses down, apart from a rise in NJG losses (31 vs 18), although Wilde Sau losses are reduced to 1 from 6. Night bombers and mediium bomber losses remain static (118 vs 118 and 242 vs 239, respectively). HB losses are, thankfully, down to 424 to 521, while fighter losses rose to 727 vs 671. The most interesting story is the B-17 loss rate, which dropped to (184 vs 376), due mostly to poor weather in contrast to the rise in Liberator losses (240 vs 145) which rose as the 15th were able to sustain operations as the weather improved in the south. Otherwise the only change was the removal of the P-39 from the front line, with the replacement P-47C's proving a lot less vulnerable (0 vs 23 P-39's, 18 vs 29 P-47C's).

fochinell,

I see that you have lost 123 Mosquito N.F.II.  That seems to be very high considering that in BTR, Axis night fighters do not intercept Allied night fighters.  Are you flying them at 500' and they keep crashing into the ground?

Gavin does not let his NI fly at 500ft.....most of them are between 6k and 16k.
Most of his NF losses are due to AA fire....my main NF bases are often protected by railroad Flak units.

Anyone ever see D Day delayed by a failing bombing campaign? Realistically if the German Air Force could not be crippled enough it would have been later.

Nope.

Nope again. The USAAF wanted to win air superiority over Germany, but it was never a pre-requisite for invasion (which required air superiority over the beach-head), which was going to go ahead for larger reasons of grand strategy, covered by the tactical air forces as well as the strategic ones. The immediate German reaction to the invasion was to concentrate their fighter forces against it, and they got another hammering over France in response.

The new month opens with some satisfying if sporadic blood shed.

1st April 1944. A: 196/3101 (28), X: 218/2347 (0). Losses include 61 Bf109G6, 32 Fw190A, 45 Me410, 53 P-38L, 92 B-24J.

MTO: The 15th AF head to Linz and do some damage against substantial resistance from a major LW assembly west of Vienna and some heavy fighter-jumping on the Adriatic coast return route; 38/288f 7/256b 52e Linz-PCD RUBBER 17%, Niebelungenwerke ARM 100%. The usual tactical raids, with Flak claiming 12 A-20's again, redeemed by the MAC Baltimores hitting Razanac PORT 99% and catching some RTBing interceptors from the 15th raids, 2/126f 0/36b 9e.

ETO: Some brutal combat from a major Axis response to the 8th AF; 27/288f 85/100b 172e Stahlwerk Krieger STEEL 99%. One BG even ends up turning back, which makes the bombing results even more impressive. Allied HQ throw some Medals of Honor around and tell the surviving aircrew to get back to work. The supportign raids help a little, with the 9th AF contributing 4/384f 0/64b 60e, while the 2TAF Mitchells are cancelled, leaving the Tiffies to hit Fabrique d'Armes ARM 99% with no serious combat.

BC: 4 and 6 Group combine to hit Duisburg-Ruhrort PORT, 4/563b and all bombloads in the target area. The LSNF Oboe mossies support, 0/12b. PR reveals Hamburg RR at 71%.

2nd April 1944. A: 15/668 (4), X: 0/22 (0).

MTO: Resting.

ETO: 8th AF unopposed to Krupp-Borbeck STEEL 100%, with cripple-hunting on return, 1/216f 14/100b 3e. 9th AF raids to Paris unopposed, Villacoublay AF 99% and Nouzonville STEEL 78%.

I disagree, it was a major requisite for invasion, I forget the numbers off the top of my head, but a number of targets were set up, that had to be taken out before the invasion started, with the bad weather in England, it was getting to be a major factor in target planning, also, why the XVth was set up in the Med,it could help out and the weather would be better

some of the earlier slaughters were based on needing to take those targets out, even though the bombers couldn't be protected all the way

once the weather started to break, is why Big Week was so importent, it didn't effect the production as much as was hoped/figured, but it came close to breaking the LWs back

and to be honest, got to say, once the landings took place, is when the LW was finally broken, the fighting over and in Normandy was nasty

the hassle here I think is more hindsight, but most of the plans, all stated the Allies had to have complete AS or there was to be no landings (now planes can always get though, that is a risk you have to take, but)

and the LW had worked on what to do when the landing started, they did plan on using 190s with Trops, 190 and 109s with Rockets, the bombers with stand off rockets, and had other anti ship weapons in design (but needed more time, and in the end, never did get them ready)

plus the LW had already shown a few times, that they could do damage to ships if given the chance

in hindsight it was a nobrainer, no chance, but at the time and going say a year ahead of time, it was something to be very worried about

3rd April 1944. A: 161/3040 (43), X: 122/1214 (0). Losses include 56 Bf109, 21 Zerstorer, 64 B-17G and 33 B-24J.

MTO: The 15th head to the Vienna area again, but cloud obscures the targets and heavy combat takes place on the return leg; 5/328f 33/251b 45e. Various tac raids in Italy, with the 12th losing 10 A-20's but nailing Padova RR 99% with a similar result for the MAC Baltimores at Sibenik PORT.

ETO: An 8th AF raid to Hagen is plotted without escort. Whoops... OKL take a while to react, with the fighters coming up only after the bombers pass Cologne, 63/128b 50e. The potential massacre is avoided thanks to some sterling work by the 9th AF supports, 7/364f 8/64b 72e, and Rheinmetall Borsig ARM 99%, Hattingen POWER 99%. Good work, lads - have some medals. The 2TAF raids do the usual marginal damage, but no substantive air combat.

BC: 5 Group to Bielefeld. RR Flak is a problem for the inbound route, and then the NJG react although 70% of the bombers hit the target area, 16/360b.

4th April 1944. A: 10/1028 (9), X: 0/0.

MTO: The usual tactical fighter stuff in Italy.

ETO: Tac raids over Belgium and France, no reaction. Brussels RR hit for 86%, but PR reveals Bielefeld at only 13%, boo hiss.

5th April 1944. A: 6/414 (4), X: 0/0.

MTO: More tactical stuff.

ETO: Resting.

5th April 1944. 41/3527 (30), X: 4/0.

MTO: 15th AF to Bavaria for the first time in a while, 0/318f 1/128b 0e, Zeppelin EFAC missed but Maybach Motorenbau ARM 99%. The usual tac stuff.

ETO: 8th AF to Minden Weser PORT 100%, no reaction. The 9th AF supports hit Salzbergen OILR 68%, and 2TAF hit Herdecke POWER 99% (plsu the usual number of other raids doing nothing).

BC: 1 and 3 Groups to Chemnitz, 5/555b and 0/36b LNSF Mossies to Berlin. No reaction. 205 Group demonstrate the importance of H2S, as only the 28 Halifax III's hit Olhafen PORT while all 140 Halifax II's all miss. 4/172b.

6th April 1944. A: 41/3527 (30(, X: 4/0 (4). The Allies run amok as the Axis pilots cower in fear in their dugouts...

MTO: 15th AF to Bavaria again, 0/318f 1/128b 0e; Zeppelin EFAC 0%, Maybach Motorenbau ARM 99%. Various tac raids in Italy.

ETO: 8th AF 0/216f 1/128b 0e Minden-Wesr PORT 100%, 9th AF supporters hit Salzburgen OILR 68% and the 2TAF Mossies Herdecke POWER 99%.

BC: 1 & 3 Groups to Chemnitz, 5/555b and 0/36b LNSF to Berlin. 205 Group to Germany for once, Olhafen PORT only hit by the 28 Halifax III's with H2S; the rest miss as usual.

7th April 1944. A: 18/904 (11), X: 0/0. Another rest day for the LW.

MTO: 15th AF to dispersal AFACs in the Bavarian Alps, but they do zero damage to Oberstaufen and Sonthafen; 0/256f 0/256b 0e. The usual tac raids in Italy, with the only interest being the MAC Baltimores being massacred by Flak at Cotilia POWER, 9/48b.

8th April 1944. 26/2294 (7), X: 7/198 (0).

MTO: The two 15th AF forces hit Wien Winterhafen OILS 99% as a secondary and miss their other target; 2/288f 6/256b 0e. The usual tac stuff in Italy.

ETO: 8th AF to Schleswig-Holstein but only manage Bucken OILS 8%; 0/310f 2/132b 0e.

BC: 4 & 6 Group to Rostock, 9/576b and the NJG come out to play, losing 7 for 1 NI lost.

9th April 1944. A: 78/1487 (19), X: 24/722 (7). Losses include 30 P-38H and 30 P-47D as the fighters get a workout.

MTO: 15th AF to their old favourites in Vienna, Ostmark EFAC 0%, Benzil-Verband OILR 18%; 2/432f 16/264b 3e.

ETO: Some sweeps to northern Germany; some combat but nothing too outrageous given the usual massive casualty dynamic.

10th April 1944. A: 35/2317 (11), X: 3/248 (0). Chemnitz PR'd at 74%, which cheers up an otherwise uninteresting turn.

MTO: Tac F strikes on RR as per usual. No air combat.

ETO: 8th AF to Bussing NAG EFAC 27% and Luther FAC 100%, 2/432f 16/264b 3e, all down to a small cripple-hunt on the return leg. The usual tac supporters, with one of the 9th AF Marauder groups doing Ummeln BBFAC 74% for zero combat. The only substantive combat comes against a coastal Typhoon strike, where the escorting Spits go down like bowling-pins to the standard Axis bounce-fighter regime once again, 6/72f 4/24b 2e.

11th April 1944. A: 75/2961 (22), X: 71/896 (3). At long last the LW come up to fight in the south.

MTO: 15th AF to Viennese targets, zero damage but some satisfyingly heavy fighting. 11/256f 40/255b 74e. Various boring tac strikes in Italy otherwise.

ETO: 8th AF to Paris as weather socks out Germany for the day. No opposition and Hispano-Suiza EFAC 99% and Kuhlman CHEM 82% for 0/192f 2/200b 0e. The tac forces hit French AF's with no significant resistance and marginal results.

BC: 1 & 3 Groups to Essen, 7/556b and 0/36b LNSF mossie markers. 8 NI claims as the NJG come up to play for once. Rostock PR'd at 32%.

12th April 1944. A: 82/2557 (28), X: 75/724 (0). Mostly fighter losses - 21 P-51B, 16 P-47D and 59 Bf109,. Essen PR'd at 36% damage despite the massive Lancaster raid last night, curses.

MTO: The usual tac strikes on Italian RR, much to your suprise as a dedicated reader of this campaign.

ETO: 8th AF return to Germany, 0/383f 5/128b 0e Ehmen OILS 100%. No combat aside from another small cripple-hunt, until the LW finally come up to fight against the second 9th AF Marauder raid to the Koblenz area. 9th AF results 16/576f 8/64b 66e Liege/Renory RR 64%, Koblenz-Dynamit ARM 51%. The 2TAF Mitchells do some ineffective bombing on Liege, 3/254f 2/48b 19e, but a mossie strike on Knapsack POWER does no damage but attracts a major fight, 21/67f 12/24b 10e. The Tiffies miss the combat, but one raid hots Brussels/Melsbroek RR 73%.

13th April 1944. A: 84/2598 (38), X: 10/224 (0). Losses include 54 B-24J.

MTO: 15th AF to Austria again, with a major fight. I don't remember the replay for this, but the losses suggest an escort-delay bomber masacre as the secondary RR targets are bombed, 0/287f 54/256b 9e for Linz RR 0%, Dobling RR 51%. The usual Italian tac F raids.

ETO: Tac mediums plus FB's vs French RR and AF's. The three B-26 RR strikes all get zero damage, but Nouzonville STEEL 91% and Courcelles STEEL 81% reduce the disappointment. No significant combat.

BC: 5 Group continue the 2nd Batle of the Ruhr, with 4/360b to Wattenscheid, no NJG activity.

14th April 1944. A: 11/1128 (8), X: 0/11 (0). Wattenschied PR'd at 99%. Excelleurnt.

MTO: Tac F vs Italian RR again.

ETO: 9th AF vs Chateaudun and Athies AF with support from 2TAF FB's. No combat.

15th April 1944. Rest day; bad weather.

16th April 1944. A: 13/1972 (11), X: 0/0.

MTO: 15th AF to the usual recent Austrian targets, except this time they hit them, 0/287f 5/256b 0e Moosbierbaum OILR 91%, Linz-PCD RUBBER 20%. No combat. The normal Italian tac raids against no opposition; the 12th AF A-20C's hit Ferrara RR 95%.

ETO: A 9th AF sweep to Tille does nothing.

BC: 1 & 3 Groups to Herne, 1/576b plus 0/24b for the LNSF support. No NJG reaction.

The grind continues.

17th April 1944. A: 17/831 (7), X: 2/237 (0).

Limited tac F strikes in the ETO & MTO.

18th April 1944. A: 26/1847 (8), X: 6/93 (0).

MTO: Bad weather; a rare rest day.

ETO: 8th AF to Dunlop RUBBER in France with support from the tac mediums and Tiffies. Nothing interesting to report.

BC: 1 & 3 Groups to Wedau, 14/556b and 6 NJG killed for 2 NI's lost.

19th April 1944. A: 22/906 (7), X: 8/431 (2).

MTO: Tac F strikes again, with some rare combat - 13/48f 6e from a 15th AF P-38L strike on Venice RR.

ETO: Tac F strikes on French RR, nothing to report.

BC: 0/96b for a major LNSF raid on Berlin just to keep the population's morale low with another demonstration of Reichmarshall Werner's inability to defend them

20th April 1944. A: 219/3610 (38), X: 136/1488. Stung by the personal abuse in recent allied propaganda, the LW come up to fight for once and inflict some substantive casualties - losses include 24 Zerstorer, 72 Bf 109, 28 Fw 190's and 6 190D's in their first significiant combat. The Allies lose their first 2 P-51D's (!) but also 117 B-17G, which isn't quite as amusing for me.

MTO: 15th AF to targets around Budapest, no fighting and poor bombing results. 0/256f 2/256b 0e, Szony OILS 0, Gyor RR 35%. The following 12th AF P-38 AF strikes see all the action, 22/96f 3e. Still, as long as the bomber losses are suppressed, I don't care. Otherwise the usual Italian tac raids.

ETO: The 8th launch a major raid group on targets around Magdeburg, and have to fight their way in and out, with a major cripple hunt and zerstorer fight after the bingo fuel bug sends the escorts home on the last section of the return route across Holland and the Dutch coast around a slow raid group (next time leave those cripples behind, men). 35/744f 117/300b 141e, Krupp-Gersonwerke ARM 71%, Nienburg OILS 17%, Stassfurt OILS 22%. The 9th AF Marauder supports north of the Ruhr do some useful work, 7/665f 13/64b 42e, Hanomag ARM 58% but the 2TAF raids do nothing, particularly against French RR.

21st April 1944. A: 41/3029 (32), X: 0/0. LW back to the usual strategy of courageously hiding from the allies this turn.

MTO: The usual marginal-weather Tac F strikes against Italian RR.

ETO: The 8th return to Kassel even though the LW chicken out - 0/539f 7/300b 0e Kassle OILS 99%, Waldeck-Henschel FAC 72%, Fieseler AFAC 99%. Various 9th AF and 2TAF supporting raids, with some cancellations and the most useful being a mossie raid on Koepchenwerk POWER 99%.

BC: 4 & 6 Groups to Falkenberg, 5/576b with 0/34b LNSF mossies to Berlin again. No resistance.

22nd April 1944. A: 15/789 (13), X: 8/235 (5).

MTO: Tac F strikes on Italian RR.

ETO: Tac F strikes on French RR.

23rd April 1944. A: 13/720 (7), X: 7/414 (0).

The same again, limited by some weather cancellations. Yaawwwnnn....

24th April 1944. A: 41/1505 (18), X: 12/442 (0).

MTO: The usual Tac F strikes, although this time the LW on the NE Italian AF's come up to skirmish with the 15th AF P-38L's attacking Venice and the following MAC P-51B's and Spits heading for the Trieste area. 2/48f 4e for the Lightnings and 5/59f 4e for the Mustangs and Spits. The first 190 Dora's spotted on the southern front were also involved.

ETO: The usual Tac F strikes on French RR.

BC: After a long break due to bad weather, 5 Group hit Hamm for 9/360b and do some damage, judging by the sudden jump in the SB score. A substantial NJG response for once, and the NI's claim 5 for zero losses. Yay! These small victories are all I can take pleasure in at the moment.

25th April 1944. A: 25/2390 (21), X: 0/0.

MTO: 15th AF to Gyori Vagongyar and Dunai AFAC's; no resistance, no damage. 0/320f 7/256b. The usual Tac stuff otherwise.

ETO: Tac F strikes vs French RR.

BC: 1 & 3 Groups to Berlin - the first main force raid on the Big City for a while. Yet the LW cower in fear again; 5/556b, plus 0/36b LNSF mossies in support. Hamm PR'd at 86% damage, which is encouraging.

26th April 1944. A: 111/1744 (12), X: 96/1173 (0). 36 Bf109G6, 28 Fw190F, 24 P-38L, 20 P-47D, 17 A-20G and 37 B-25J lost.

MTO: 15th AF busy vs Austrian targets with the LW coming up from the Viennes AF's for a big fight just after the main targets are bombed, 24/288f 37/256b 86e Hafen Freudenau PORT 100%, Wiener-Neustadt RAIL 18%. A 12th AF A-20G supporting raid hits Sava RR 99%, but loses 5 A-20G's to a Zerstorer bounce inbound over the Adriatic coast and the P-38H escorts do nothing in response, 1/129f 17/64b 8e. The usual Tac F stuff vs Italian RR.

ETO: Some Tac F strikes on French AF's and RR, with a nice fight involving a 9th AF Thunderbolt group developing near Creil. A 2TAF Mustang raid on Hirson RR nets 3/89f 5e. Berlin PR'd at 40% and Falkenberg at 55%, which is a little disappointing after the recent major raids. Never mind. There's more BC to come.

27th April 1944. A: 44/3648 (36), X: 7/32 (5). The LW being hunted down on the ground again....

MTO: Yet another 15th AF raid to Vienna misses the main targets due to weather, and both forces avoid Ostmark EFAC, their designated secondary (1019,622), in favour of Fischamend-Markt (1023,625). I'm getting really tired of that bug. No resistance, but then again why bother? 0/288f 5/256b 0e. The usual TacF stuff.

ETO: The weather breaks, well, the chronic low cloud clears a little bit and the 8th send a single force for one of the Hamburg OILR's. Bad weather over the target reduces this to a ToO hunt on the return leg, although as usual after missing the main target the bombers don't use the planned return route, and head directly back to the outbound waypoint past the north German AF's teeming with RR Flak. Fortunately, the this doesn't cost me too many flak cripples this time, and there's no major cripple-hunt. 0/288f 7/128b 0e. Various Tac raids in France, nothing interesting. I'm ignoring the VSITES while the Hurricane units upgrade to the Tempest, although I'll have to make a token effort against them sooner or later.

BC: 4 & 6 Groups to Halle, 2/576b and 0/24b LNSF mossie supporters to Leipzig (or the fields around the city...). LW in hiding again.

28th April 1944. A: 38/2342 (19), X: 4/134 (2). The figures tell the usual story... zzzzzz

MTO: Boring Tac F strikes, although a 15th AF P-38L strike against Agram AF actually triggers a reaction to break the usual montony, 12/48f 3e.

ETO: Another single B-24J force from the 8th heads for Hannover, and ends up doing superficial damage to a secondary OILR. No resistance again. 2/336f 3/128b 0e. Various tac raids in support fill the skies but do little damage and attract no combat. Mind you, I suspect some of the Axis ground losses might have come from a 98% raid on Paderborn AF by the 9th AF Marauders, and if so ho, ho, ho - serves OKL right.

29th April 1944. A: 71/611 (31), X: 30/778 (1). 22 Bf109G6, 36 P-47D, 19 P-51B. A day of fighter sweeps and strikes in marginal weather; despite the favourable ratio for the LW, even a 2:1 ratio suits me provided there are no HB losses.

MTO: Lots of F strikes, with three major ones to Agram AF, including the first op for the southern Italian 12th AF P-38H groups now converting to the P-47D.

ETO: Lots of F sweeps, the 8th AF, 9th AF and 2TAF P-51B's to Germany and northern France.
