No, more like genre-cover bands. They're electronic bands that do for the most part totally new music, only with the 'style' of 80s synth. Think of 80s pop mixed in with current day trance or chillwave. Excellent reading or gaming music.

Some examples would be Lazerhawk, Electric Youth, or Mitch Murder.
