Can i search for a game at matrix thats:
a) not hex
b) not turn based
c) not a first person shooter

or can somebody list them, aka Close Combat series style.

No. Same excellent engine as COTA and the upcoming Battles from the Bulge (BFB).

Check out the AAR's and the Panther War College (PWC) as that will give a good idea of what these games are about.

Ditto what Widell said.

CotA has the more modern engine, but some prefer HttR for its theatre of opeations.
These games have beautiful maps, very smart AI, and the most realistic action you will find anywhere in corp size battles.

Conquest of the Aegean has Australian or is it New Zealnders in the game, I noticed you are from that area and thought you might like that.

no to COTA, didnt see any soldiers to physically direct.
HTTR is getting closer....looks like close combat when you zoom out ,so units look like battlemap icons, not real tanks/men.
BFB looks the closest, i seen maps about 50% bigger and its Close combat size, but all icon units....this messes with my mind, used to seeing actual tanks...

Becouse there aren't any (ditto for HTTR): all units are represented as icons, and each icon represents group of men or vehicles. What I've been told about, you don't need to direct each and every icon by yourself you don't want to. Instead you can issue orders for command unit icons, and those icons control other icons associated with them. So you oder battalion HQ, and that HQ orders companies and platoons of that battalion. But if this isn't for your liking, I'll direct you for Close Combat - Modern Tactics

thanks for the help matti. interesting on the info, but im more a visual person, CCMT is good, i have it,and egarly awaiting WaR also. just checking nothing similar in matrix closets. heard some people are making some real fine work with 3D graphics,but not shooters.
