I can now finally see the Austrian forces. The main army is quite impressive. I think it was recently concentrated due to the arrival of all the PoW's available for smaller units.

Peace Treaty

A simple document with a simple name, Transylvania Peace, ends a 7 year war. This war had a "slaughter rate" of over 400-for both Austria and Turkey. There can be only joy on both ends of the Danube.

There is great hope that the war with Spain will be a much smaller and easier affair.

The Spanish war is still raging on. Most of the battles are small affairs, but those do add up.

Political Reports

Note the subsidy of 140 bushels of gold that Britain is sending to Austria-and the damn war is over. If only my ally, England, had supported Turkey in this way.

National Moral

Prussia is still at the bottom even though it is Russia that recently surrendered. I wish I knew what kind of hell has been visited upon that country-oops, nation.

Spain is still low and Austria is rapidly climbing-again.

Strength Report
August 1801

With the initial release of PoW's by both Turkey and Austria, both nations surge in military power.

The Ottoman Empire received 13 divisions that had languished in PoW camps for years. Many of these divisions have a moral of approximately 2.5. It will take a lot of marching and replacements to bring those formations back up to standards. I believe that a couple of the returned divisions were irregular cavalry. Those are infantry now-and with a very low moral. At least it seems that they can increase in moral whereas the starting irregulars could not.

Strategic View

The Spanish/Ottoman War was a very brief affair that involve Ottoman forces moving into position to attack, but never having the chance. The Turk/Spanish Alliance was cancelled in the late summer, followed by a DoW by Turkey in September. The war was official by October.

The Egyptian Army was loaded on the Turkish Fleet at the beginning of the war. The Plan was to sail to Valencia or South France to disembark. The overriding consideration in this operation was to have a safe landing zone. The Ottoman Army cannot make an amphibious assault-it lands disordered and would be massacred. I needed to land in a French controlled province-or at least one where no Spanish forces were capable of reaching for at least one turn. The area would also have to be supplied, which I could handle-even across the entire Mediterranean Sea-for a few months anyway.

The Invasion Fleet move only about halfway across the sea in the initial phase. Another Army was moving as quickly as possible to West Egypt to invade Tripoli. In November, the Fleet was ordered back to the Adriatic and to land at Anacona while the forces in Africa reached their jump off point. By December, the battles were to begin in earnest. The first Army was then going to be transported by the Fleet across the Adriatic to reinforce the Egyptian Army which would have been in Italy already. This would have been a force of over 200,000 men in Italy to begin an unstoppable drive on Madrid.

The great surprise came at the end of November;Spain Surrendered to Turkey and England-but not to France. Turkey ended up with the cheapest victory imaginable, but Spain just gained 350 experience points. France was now once again fighting against Spain alone. France was now in a very good position to achieve victory, but the back stabbers to the north were still holding the dagger....

This is the Egyptian Army on board the Fleet in the Adriatic. They were just a bit too far to land in Anacona in November-or the surrender stopped the move.

In this situation map you can see the Fleet (with the Egyptian Army) adjacent to Anacona and the first Army in Illyria ready for transport ASAP.

The French Army had moved back into Venice, but I was not sure it would be safe to land there at that time.

Provincial Improvements

The are now 36 of 41 provinces being built up. It may appear that the number one priority, barrack, is not taking up enough positions. However, the way the plan is moving along, some developments are going forward at a low speed (to maximize production) while others, primarily barracks, are moving ahead at a high speed. The number of completed projects are mostly barracks.

Turkey has ended the year with an experience gain rate of 29. This is actually less than it was a year ago when much of Austria was occupied. The rate quarterly increase will expand considerably over the next year and a half. Before there is another war with Austria, Turkey will have a significant advantage in experience gain-although not in doctrines-yet.

The economy is noticeably stronger. Income has never been higher. With the end of any war for some time, development can at last be put on priority.

Very interesting sequence of events, this coupled with the french perspective gives an interesting account of what went on. Are you going to bring this close to current or are you not wanting to show your hand to the opposition?

I am going to bring this much closer to the current point. We just finished turn 141. This AAR is now up to Turn 115. After another few months the level of activity really drops off. Everyone is working on the economy or building up their forces for the next war.

I am not too concerned about security leaks from this thread. I am sure that my past opponents had good intel on my dispositions anyway. I will hold back on publicizing any military operation until after it is rolling along.

France had captured Madrid, but the arrival of large Spanish forces necessitated the withdrawal of the French Army. It did garrison Madrid before withdrawing.

The capital of France was very lightly garrisoned. This must have weighed heavily on Emperor Terje'-as he was keenly aware of the threat from Prussia.

This unfolding situation was rather interesting. France was very close to total victory. Spains moral was extremely low-and many of its units were far under strength.

Spanish Terms of Surrender
January, 1802

This whole dismal afair seemed to revolve around Anacona in the Sultans View. No point in creating a new name. The Viziers will sort it out.

Karaman is part of the Gold and White Belt. It is one of the Sultans favorite provinces. There are long term plans for this wonderful place.

Enough barracks have now been completed to increase experience gain to 30 points per quarter.

Culture Report

There is a side show developing-culture development. All the powers have made modest increases in culture-with Spain leading the way. After significant arts improvements there is a small monthly gain in culture. There may be some end game advantage/bonus to being in 1st or/or second place in culture. With peace breaking out everywhere, it looks like everyone is eying arts development as a way to out pace the rest of Europe.

The Viziers are nagging about arts development, but it will have to wait. There will be some small investment in that area, but barracks must be the priority.

In the strategic map the dismal situation of France is clear-they have lost. After 8 years of terrible war, they will soon collapse. The dagger held at its back was finally thrust in.

This act will be avenged-insallah.

Due to gaining another province, the Ottoman Empire has seen the return of an old problem-waste. Courts are already under construction to eliminate this situation.

In 1792 wastage cost 18% of production per turn. That had been eliminated within 4 years. It returned briefly after acquiring Illyria. There was no problem absorbing Transylvania, but I was not ready for such a quick addition of a N.African territory.

Glory/Development
Feb 1802

As you can see; development is not being ignored in the O.E. The road construction does have some risks-over population. I am aware of that possibility and am taking precautions against that happening. In a worse case scenario, I will have to send an army into the mountains, in the winter, foraging. That will be a sad situation as losses will cost moral. I will try to avoid that.

Although there is a healthy amount of revenue coming into the treasury each month-there is a cash shortage. To initiate another six projects will cost about 340-assuming none will be from a zero point which will cost an additional 100 per program. Unfortunately, there are many such programs that must be initiated. Over the next 18 months I must build as much as I can and increase cash reserves at the same time. I would like to have about 3000 on hand before another war starts. With a monthly income of about 500 per month that would seem like an easy objective, but not if development has costs that exceed 600 in some months and at least 280 in any others.

Experience is now up to 31 points per quarter.

With the collapse of France, the O.E. will soon be in 3rd place.
