I don't think that's all that far from Omaha is it? That's where I'll be.


Only 55 miles and lessening with urban sprawl. Most of Nebraska's population is that corner. The rest is corn, wheat, cattle, or bison in the areas Ted Turner bought.

If your out in Nebraska by July, don't miss the testicle festival. It's held not too far from Offutt and it's a good way to get introduced to the local culture and cuisine. The menu might sound limited, but there is the choice of beef, pork, lamb, or turkey

Just buy a can of Mrs Fearnow's... it ain't "chicken in a can" but it is the best canned Brunswick stew that you'll ever find.

What steakhouse are you speaking of?

I haven't been back to Richmond since 1994, and that visit was only for a weekend. The last time I lived there was the fall of '86...

The only history made in my Lincoln was in American football (and not enough recently). Actually the town was originally named after another Brit city, Lancaster. but was renamed in honor of Pres. Lincoln after his assassination.

My mistake Brad. I was quoting another post , and was hooked to this one. I don't understand it. I was responding to Chicken of the sea about a "testical festival" in Nebraska and Bend in the road steakhouse sponsers it. I'm sorry for the confusion.

That's 2nd capital of the Confederacy! I never understood why they said "Yeah, Mobile is way too easy to defend, lets move it to less than 100 miles from Washington and then spend the rest of the war trying to keep the Yankee's out!".

Status: offline 		Well... the Union actually never took Richmond. The confederates evacuated it after Lee had to evacuate the lines at Petersburg - after four years of conflict and the Confederacy was completely depleted. 

Which discussion reminds me of my favorite scene from The Beverly Hillbillies. Jethro has a school buddy over at their mansion and the kid's chauffeur has come to pick him up. Granny meets the chauffeur at the door, explaining that the boy isn't yet ready to go home. Our chauffeur then says "I shall take that boy like Grant took Richmond!" and tries to push past Granny through the front door. You can imagine the result. Just like in history, the attempt to enter through the front door ended up with our chauffeur flat on his face in the drive (I grew up on the battlefield at Gaines Mill, right next to Cold Harbor where Grant lost something to the tune of 7000 men in a thirty minute assault on Lee's lines).
