Are you kidding me?

You guys are fixin' to attack the soft underbelly of East Asia and interdict the tanker lifeline from the DEI and he's reinforcing the Solomons? Good grief-what a misplaced defensive strategy...

They are getting ready for us....except in the wrong places.

Wasn't the Sumatra operation supposed to be at Padang? That's not far from Benkolen. Or was that called off in favor of the sprint through the Philippines?

The LYB ships were actually at Padang. ALSP had decided on Benkolen, I think because it was closer to Palembang. JJ are taking inventory of their defenses and reinforcing where they see vulnerability. They saw vulnerability in Western Sumatra and at Taytay, both were good guesses. Lunga or the Marshalls not so much. Not really surprising because we are TRYING to suggest an attack on Hollandia and Palau...and somewhat less convincingly (with one DD, a squadron of SBD's a squadron of P-43's and a regiment of Marines) in the Solomons/Marshalls.

Now, if we suddenly detect 16 in shore guns being installed on Ramree Is then somebody has some 'splaining to do.

AH Yes! reinforce Sumatra to ensure he can continue to pump the oil. Give no thought to the danger that the Philippine invasion and further expansion will likely kill all the ship traffic to and from Sumatra ... Strategic Fail!

************Pranning**************

LYB carriers appear to be retreating to NW, Indochina maybe. Still, Rord Admirar Fabertong is famous for the Jimmy-leg doubleback move so the CAP stays airborne at San Jose, Jolo, Cagayan and Cotobato. Defintiely at least 2 carriers from the number of aircraft.

San Jose: USS Denver will likely survive after her THREE torp hits but at 85% flooding she has to stay at San Jose. Not exactly a safe place. One severely damaged AP unloding at San Jose sunk but it appears the troops got off safely. Marine Raider Bn flying in from Cagayan in case JJ tries to walk in from their other base on Panay.

Jolo: Now completely repaired and can start building up the current level 3 airfield. Many fighters and some SBD's.

Taytay: LYB troops on Taytay must be badly disrupted as they are unable to inflict any causalties by bombardment.

Mindanao: 2 regiments of infantry and some arty closing on Davao. We should be rid of the Little Yellow Bastards in 2-3 days.

San Jose: Somehow, Haruna sneaks past the PBY's operating from San Jose. The covering DD's have already left to make mischief at Leyte. USS Denver is still at anchor at San Jose. She seems not to have been hit. The same can not be said for the aircraft, many of which seem to be multiplying as there are more damaged planes than there were ashore at the start of the bombardment. The PT crews seem to have taken the night off.

Somewhat pathetically, I watched "Tomorrow, When the War Began" while I was trying to figure out where all the unit fragments are in the Greater, Medium and Lesser Sundas, Molluccas and the Phillipines. I wonder what the record is for number of unit fragments.

I never quite figured out where Wirrawee was but the teens who live there take up arms to fight an invading force with decidedly asiatic features. Everything is green and there are free-flowing streams without crocodires and there is a bridge that goes to Port Hedrand that the evil invading force is using to reinforce its position.

As far as I could work out there doesn't seem much worth capturing in Wirrawee but the girls are pretty damn cute.

I give it 3 stars out of 5, mostly for the cute girls. I deducted a star because they writer made me feel stupid for trying to find out where Wirrawee was.

Like you, Cap, I tried to figure out where this location was. From our game map, the Port Hedland area doesn't seem to be quite so verdant as it does in the movie. I actually liked it better than Red Dawn (the original, I have yet to see the new one). I think that it's because I can understand a Indonesian invasion of Australia far better than an Soviet paradrop on the front range...

I was unable to rearm the two USN fast BB's at either Jolo or Ternate. They are headed all the way back to Darwin. USS Washington has to repair some topside damage and will be about 3 weeks or so.

Chickenboy, I think you are referring to Mythbusters there. The opponents in the game definitely wanted to pique the interest of the LASP. No ennui there.

Well, they were actually called "coalition forces". Looking at the people I deduced that it was a coalition of Indonesia and Malaysia - two nations with a lot of people who need more food resources...

Had the Australian government asked for my advice, I would have advised they purchase the Indonesian/Malasian Recce Rider.

Evidently they could have used Peruvian A-4's too.

So here is the tactical problem. Haruna is still working and we have to send our BB's all the way back to Darwin to rearm whereas JJ only has to go to Indochina. Also, there is the small matter of a couple of Jap carriers that overmatch Wasp by herself. Therefore, we can't safely station the BB's all the way forward.

Haruna could keep bombarding our forward base every 4-5 days. How to stop this?

1) Threaten with Wasp? Dangerous.

2) Subs..leaky defense

3) Mines..yes when they arrive in Darwin, we can put 40-80 mines at San Jose.

4) SBD's and TBF's at Jolo or Cagayan don't work as the offending ships are clear by daybreak.

5) Capture Manado..yes..working on that..but will also have to be repaired after capture.

I've GOT IT! Operation Whack-a-mole. We develop so many forward bases JJ won't know whether to **** or wind their wrist watches! Puerto Princessa, Busuanga...etc.etc. Of course, it's a bluff because we dont have enough engineers or supplies to build them all up...but JJ won't know that.

I have found Cap that mines are less effective than submarines against Bombardment missions but .. you might have an idea in that if the BB was somehow delayed in its mission .. it would be exposed to an air attack ..

Maybe stationing suicide xAKL's could be gamey .. but a couple of DD's for the BB's to spend op points might be ok . once the BB's expend op points and then continue in for the bombardment .. they very well would be in range ... a submarine smacking and slowing the BB down would be just peachy . but probably unlikely ..

I have found PT/MGB boats to be effective at this duty .. simply get the bombardment TF to expend op points so my air attack can find its mark ..

The neighbor next to Pocahantas Girl put up an American flag in his back yard. Poor bastard. Wait till the HOA sees it.

He is a nice guy. He owns a chain of Mexican restaurants and a tortillaria. "Tortillaria" is a place to make tortillas, not a disease you get from eating bad ones.

Or, at least that is his cover story. He owns like 4 black Mercedes sedans all with shaded windows. Without fail, they are always parked nose out toward the street, even the ones inside the garage. It is surpassingly odd. It seems like something Jason Bourne would do. Either he has OCD and owns Mexican restaurants or he works for the CIA or Mossad or the mafia.

The other thing is I ate at his restaurant once and watched the tortilla line in operation. He had this guy from Jalisco working for him and I swear the proportion of unusable tortillas that he threw in the trash was 50%. Maybe that is how a tortillaria is SUPPOSED to work but it seemed very inefficient even by Jalisco standards. Really made me wonder if it all just a cover story.

Yes, got PT boats. Last time they ran away. Perhaps a new commander. The ingress/egress route to Panay from the NW will be swarming with subs, but, of course, you cant count on that.

Ammo-eating AK's or even landing craft is gamey, but not if they are actually unloading something.

Having DD's on station is definitely NOT gamey...but hard to find volunteers after the word gets out.

Certainly History supports the DD thing .. If you remember history and the mad dash by USN DD's at Leyte Gulf The only difference is that you plan a welcoming comittee of DB's and TB's when the sun comes up ...

They all sound good to me. Hard to pick.

Couldn't you-you know-use one of YOUR battleships as part of the welcoming committee? Don't you have at least one in theatre that could buttress your DDs?

I'd also recommend mining likely forward avenues of approach as opposed to the bombardment site per se. If he's regularly transitting these areas, you get 2x 'rolls' against his heavies in exchange for the one bombardment.
