I'm not anit-british, I just don't care for most british people, they come off as very arrogant poeple to me( and I don't know why, for heavens sake you eat fish for breakfast). Once a world power, I have enjoyed your decline in that status greatly. It's kinda funny, Germany fought two world wars in the hopes to become the leading economic power in Europe, only to lose those wars and then become the leading economic power in Eroupe, granted mind you with the help of America. British-American aye?

simply - WOW!

The "I don't care for most British people, they come across as very arrogant" shall be ignored for the fatuous remark it was.

The irony of the quote above however, is I guess, completely lost on you

You enjoyed our decline as a great power greatly - priceless. You probably don't realise that what comes around goes around and what happened to (amongst others) the Romans, the Spanish, the British - is now happening to the USA. Just like us, you ceased making anything, your manufacturing got exported overseas, you are spending more than you earn in a vain attempt to keep hold of past glory, whilst your national debt is in the hands of the Chinese and others.....

And no, unlike you I take no pleasure in making that statement. For all their faults - and lets face it the British and Americans while in the role of World superpower - past and present - made mistakes. But they were/are preferable to a Nazi Germany, Napoleonic France, Communist Russia superpower etc.

Nah.....vain attempt aye? You make it sound like we have been around since 1200......We will always be a world power, not so in your case. Get angry if it helps you. Your era ended a long time ago. If it's true it's not fatuous, you should know better than that.

Sorry - you misunderstand. I am in no way angry with you; you come across as rather immature which is just sad.

BTW:

What on God's clean earth does "vain attempt aye?" mean? Do you think I'm Scottish and that is some kind of "hilarious" mocking of the way you think I speak?

What has the year 1200 got to do with the price of fish? Bizarre

"we will always be a world power" - yes I can see why you think British people arrogant....

Well its not been the best of days - my country dumped out of the World Cup (beaten easily by a, superior in all departments, Germany), but at least you have given me some (admittedly dark) comedy at the end of it.

BTW - I love the "You picked two fights that you could not win yourself and then asked America for help finish them for you" comment - spectacular.

As you say, we could go on back and forth, but I think I'd rather not on balance - have a nice life......

We should be making the most of the time we have left as British, and American people. According to Time magazine the USA will cease to be the country it was within the next 50 years. Britain has also changed beyond all recognition during the past 20 years, and not for the better. The New World Order is changing the way things are without any democratic mandate.

Yes Rotherman, the world will be a very different place in fifty years time; and do you know what? With one exception - Germany will still beat us at football.....probably on penalties (although these are not always required ).

Yeah - I didn't see that one coming . Especially when the English newspapers confirmed this morning that we are going to "beat the Hun" or whatever nonsense headline it was this time (complete with a picture of Stuart Pearce / Wayne Rooney (delete as applicable) with WWII steel helmets on their heads....

Hmmmm, having read our Comical Colonial Comrades diatribe on the whys and wherefores of the Demise of the British Empire,i feel compelled to pen a few words myself. We poor Brits have one thing that unites us all.Its called "History",along with History comes Tradition. We happily have shed loads of both. This is what makes the UK.There isnt a sinlge People/Country/Religion that hasnt coveted what there neighbours have, consequently invading and subjecting them to slavery/drudgery/serfdom and in some cases total annihalation. The US ISNT squeaky clean despite what you think and/or are taught.I refer to the Indigenous Natives, amongst others.Correct me if i am wrong, but werent the Black Hills a Religious Site for the Native Peoples? So was the Gold rush there a good idea? Was is not just using the "ignorant natives"?As for the 2 World Wars, you really do need to research them a bit closer. The US wasnt a "magical bullet" that would solve it all.I seen to remember that Pearl HArbour was the catalyst to get the US in WW2?Or maybe we asked the Japanese to do it to wind you up and get the US in the War?Now coming to modern times we have Mr B Obama ranting on about BP.How reckless they were, and how can their CEO's sleep at night etc?Ok,it was a US owner and run oil rig,the part that failed was US made and Owned.oyou sense a pattern here? And before you go off on a hissy fit, please look at google and search for the Bhopal Disaster and see how well it was handled.

Having read so many text books that taught me things that are now so obviously untrue, or 'twisted' to make the USA look like the whhite hat wearing sherrif in a world of black hats, I have learned not to believe everything you read.

Sitting on this side of the pond, one thing I know is that the life across the pond is nothing like I would enviosion it, having never been there, not personally knowing anyone there, and knowing I can not believe the newspapers for the most part.

In the UK, if things are headed in the same direction as in the USA, then you are moving farther away from the principles of freedom and liberty every day,...just as the USA is.
We make laws that punish the responsible becasue a few idiots wont be responsible. My brother just visited from Florida. We were talking about the dogs that I own, and he brought up the point that in the cities in Florida it is a law you MUST have your pets fixed. So becasue some people cant be responsible owners, nobody is legally allowed to let their dog have puppies unless they are a licensed breeder. Now thats freedom and liberty for you.
The same for the law about liability car insurance, becasue some idiot wouldnt pay for the damage he casued, we all are legally required to have insurance that the vast majority of us would never have or need.

In the USA the people need to take a serious look at what freedom and liberty mean,...and wake up and realize that slowly but surely its disappearing in this country. I cant say the same for the UK, because of my statements in the first part of this post. You would think our leaders would be smart enough to learn not only from their own mistakes, but from the mistakes of our allies and enemies,....but stupidity seems to run very deep in the leaders of many countries now.

Ok, this is getting WAY too close to being political, so I will stop now and just say I hope both countries can stop the direction we seem to be heading and get back to what we used to hold most dear.........freedom.

I'd much prefer the thread stayed on track and we didn't get into the mud slinging caused by one extremely shallow poster.

The thread has been going awhile now and just because USA and England are out, we could keep it going for the other countries that are still in - for the sake of any other members who are allied with those countries.

One very shallow poster has made some unjustified and shallow comments about the UK - lets not sling the mud back. There are plenty of US members on here who deserve better.

Back to the football...

Argentina are look pretty handy. 3-1 against Mexico.

Though Tevez's first goal was clearly offside...

Another case for video technology in footie that Sepp Blatter is going to bury his head in the sand and ignore

The match between Ze Germans and Argentina should be a good one.

Its like ground hog day for the Argie's, in the last world cup they beat Mexico in the last 16 only to go on to lose to Germany on penalties in the quarter finals.

Chance to get some revenge for them I think...

Have I missed something.......

After reading that much about Germany and German history I feel an affinity towards that country....so I wasn't to bothered we lost today...I could see it coming a mile off anyways...I hope they go onto win it.

As for the USA vs UK thing...blimey I remember when the net started to get big there where many USA vs UK forums where everyone just slagged everyone else off...

Looks like it's still going strong...the UK is a massive toilet in my opinion....I'd rather live somewhere else entirely...not sure where though....somewhere in Europe.

My condolences to the British fans. However-at least you were beat by a major nation.

As for the Anti UK stuff-really sad. We are, for another few decades anyway, brothers.

More detailed - nothing to add...except, shocked. And possibly more shocked that the many, many other US folks on these boards have let such ridiculous comments go unchallenged.

Axisandallies - your historical knowledge seems to be as indepth as the game of your name

Oh and one last cheap shot from me to you. Ever watch that movie who's name you bare? Well it's "B" level talent just like you my feckles friend. As far as the game goes, you wouldn't last two turns.

One great thing about life here in Britain, we enjoy swimming, fishing and yachting in the sea.

I love the competition and the nationalism for every country. Soccer is getting bigger and bigger everyday in America. 30 years ago very few people in the USA played soccer. Now in my generation almost every child plays soccer and many more continue to play throughout high school and college. I expect the US to get stronger and stronger each year as soccer gets more popular here.

America never got going in WW1 to say you won it for us...yes the mere fact you where on the way made Germany go on the offensive and eventually you would have had enough troops to make a difference on the field...but I have never read that America won WW1...sorry...

Also Pershing wasted 100,000's of doughboys lives using tactics that had gone out of daet years previously...

Russia won WW2 simple as that...the Americans stopped them taking over Europe most likely.

France, Italy and England.... Other younger footballing countries seem to approach the game with a freshness and the older European teams seem to be lacking. I think we must learn to adapt or it will soon be the norm that the European teams will fail to get out of the goup stages.

Money is the root of all evil as they say and here in England it is crushing the English game. Foreign players are imported at all levels making our home grown players inexperienced and the pool of international standard players too small. In the richest league in the world my club Liverpool has benn bought on credit saddled with £350 m debt by Foreign owners who know nothing about football but know everything about making money for themselves......grrr
