Didn't most Virgin stores end up as Zavvi stores?

Yes, but this was well before that. I bought AH Bismarck! in 1981 and the last game I bought there was WIF in circa 1995.

There were either two or three fairly small shops in Regent St, Bond St and Oxford St in the early eighties - even Hamleys was selling these specialist wargames at that time.

The shops were branded Virgin at one point and then sold on - I think only the Oxford St shop remained as a wargaming shop once Virgin departed.

Damn you Sprior! I won't sleep now trying to remember the name of the *&@%& place .

Wow, I'm not a fan of Christina Aguilera, but she is usually easy to look at.  She just screwed up the lyrics to the National Anthem in front of the largest television audience of the year, and she didn't even look all that great.

Just seen a clip of it - I couldn't make out what she mucked up lyric wise because her singing was absolutely abysmal - what the hell was that all about??

I think she has a great voice, but what sort of arrangement was that?

And you are right USS America, she didn't look great either!

What a mess.....

Overall, the brits are awesome at naming things when it comes to the military. The ship names are great and all, but what about the regiment names? King's Own Scottish Borderers, Black watch, The Gordon Highlanders etc... That is pure coolness..especially when compared to "134th Regimental Combat Team" or whatever.

Warspite1

You are right there - The Black Watch - that name is simply the business No wonder Bony got his behind kicked at Waterloo. The name alone is frightening

Didn't the Black Watch get their butts kicked at Culloden in their prior engagement?

Well, no... they weren't officially formed until 1881, but of the predecessor unit (42nd Regiment of Foot, informally known as the Black Watch) :"... one company of the regiment fought at the Battle of Culloden for the Hanoverians under Dugald Campbell of Auchrossan, where they suffered no casualties. "

So, no, it doesn't sound like they got their but kicked. The Campbells, who fought for the English (and have earned the scorn of many Scotts since then) were also known infomally as "The Black Watch", and also did OK at Culloden, but were on the losing side at Falkirk.

EDIT: Clan Campbell, also known (unofficially) as "The Black Watch" for their tartan, originally formed some six "Black Watch" companies, that were eventually organized into the 43rd, renamed the 42nd Regiment of Foot, and eventually officially the Royal Highland Regiment "Black Watch" when it amalgamated with the 73rd Regiment of Foot (1881). In 1931 it was renamed "The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)" and stayed that to 2006. In 2006, it was reorganized/renamed "The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS)", and is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Awful. Just awful. Showmanship, poor professionalism, lousy ability on the national stage.

Who's the bigger clown: Aguilera, who's been in a public death spiral for months, or the person who hired her for this gig?

Aguilera. She gets credit (?) for her own actions and choices. Maybe the person that hired her for a gig was an optimist and thought she'd be less a stupid **** than normal? So much for THAT world view.

Quick unofficial and entirely inaccurate THREAD poll for our non-American colleagues:

1. How many of you watched even a portion of the Superbowl yesterday?

2. What would you say your home nation's viewership was? Compared to last year?

I didn't (and never did before)...

Just enthusiasts and spectacle loving and trendlovers (i.e. "You know I watched USA Super Bowl last night and it was great!" although without a clue about rules regarding American Football)...
