Because I want my Thread Brothers to live happier lives ( from an article I read concerning health tips ):

" 4. Have hotter sex

The researcher: Alan Hirsch, MD, director, Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation

The lesson: Smelling popcorn can boost your sex life. "Our studies found that men respond to just about any scent with increased penile blood flow. Skip the pricey perfume—it upped blood flow by only 3%. The smell of cheese pizza increased it by 5%; buttered popcorn, by 9%; and the combined scent of lavender and pumpkin pie, a whopping 40%." "

I told my wife to go look for some lavendar flavored popcorn. I don't think she believed me.

Warspite1

Just the smell of pumpkin makes me wretch and lavender is too sickly. Maybe I should visit the clinic for penile dysfunction?

Well, the Libyan foreign minister just announced a unilateral cease-fire "to protect civilians". Funny, that...

Well, imagine that huh. But I suppose you guys think it would have happened without the UN-resolution anyway, right? Or perhaps you just dont care.

Unlikely that fixed-wing FBs will challenge NATO-enforced no fly zones.  Now, rotary wing ground support will be a bit more challenging to interdict...

I think this no-fly zone is a poor idea, arrived at too late. The Colonel can just keep his planes on the ground while his soldiers roll into Benghazi and Tobruk and kill the population off. What are we going to do then?

Airstrikes don't win a war, and since the UN resolution doesn't allow for ground troops, and the rebels are not powerful enough to go on the offensive and win for months (if not years), what is to be gained from intervening?

It's a bad idea.

Agreed. As usual with the UN - Too little, too late and the wrong setup. It's a political alibi, nothing else.

Being as we're not discussing politics on THE THREAD, I won't comment further. Except to say that I agree completely.

Yes. That's the alternative and it's one I'd take. The West isn't welcome in the Arab world, all we're doing is sticking our noses into the internal affairs of another nation. In the worst case scenario, I don't believe that any number of rebel lives are worth the loss of a single NATO pilot.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

There's not one square centimeter of Libya that's worth one drop of European or American blood. So no, Hortlund, (you stuck-up, holier-than-thou git) I don't care.

I found the English used in the commercial very offputting. I'm unfamiliar with that dialect or jargon. Were they speaking "New York"?

I recall reading a study that suggested that the strongest aphrodisiac to men is the smell of bacon and eggs, while for women it's the smell of talcum powder (think baby powder).

I prefer butter and cane syrup, but the latter is hard to find around here.

A local store was carrying Steen's for awhile, but I think that I was the only one buying it because they never restocked it. I might just have to mail order it (as well as my Mrs Fearnow's Hope Farm Brunswick Stew).

The chances of me feeling anything other than nausea when I come into contact with a pumpkin is slim - and this seems to go against the findings of Alan Hirsch and his Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation.

I was therefore simply wondering whether I may have some kind of dysfuntion in the love rod dept that I should get checked out and was asking the Thread brothers for their advice; advice which I am completely confident will be provided with the appropriate level of seriousness that this question deserves .

I have plenty of things I am willing to fight for, it's a potential part of the job I get paid to do. There's even a list of things I'd die to protect. Libya isn't on either list anywhere. If I'm told to go and support the UN over Libya I will, doesn't mean I have to like it though.

If the rebels were winning would 'we' be getting involved? If the rebels were in an armed uprising in a friendly nation (Bahrain for example...) would we be stopping the government dropping bombs?

Hear, hear belemmoned one...

I too have a list of causes that I'm willing to fight and-if necessary-die for.  Its a smaller list than it once was.

Being a father has tempered my enthusiasm for many of these actions.  Before supporting armed warfare (against another nation state-terrorists, international criminals and pirates all need to be exterminated at all hazards), I ask myself if I would still support that action if it meant my son and daughter would give their lives to do so.  Now that list shrinks-and includes actions in the immediate defense of three countries, one of which is the United States of America.  I won't mention the other two.  Libya didn't make that list.

Until all countries of the world contribute blood and treasure to the extent that we have to quell the world's brush fires, I'm all for hands-off on these places.  Hey China-wanna be a global superpower?  Start by keeping the peace in Iraq, Sudan, Libya and your neighbors Afghanistan and Pakistan.  We won't get in your way at the UN security council.  We'll abstain in any voting.

That's awesome! I happen to love the smell of both lavender and pumpkin pie!

Maybe I can talk my wife into sharing a lavender bath while we feed each other pumpkin pie (with lots of whipped cream of course).

As the Libya question is approaching political inflammatory status here, I will not comment further other than saying that Dixie summed up my feelings on it quite well.
