Exactly as the MD said.

By the way is there a gifting option on purchase? Might be roping in a relative for Xmas.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall seeing a "buy as gift" option in the Matrix store last time I bought something there.

Are you gonna buy DW Legends at release?

I will buy the Digital Download version.

Ditto.

The info I have is that you need Distant Worlds plus Return of the Shakturi to install Legends on top.

I hear Distant Worlds may be packaged with ROTS for the new buyers. Perhaps Matrix can elaborate.

It would be an "epic fail" if they didn't offer a DW+RotS+Legends at a deep discount. They should be trying to expand their customer base, not simply selling to those that are already on the hook.

I have a friend waiting for the trilogy, I've recommended the game to him for about a year now and he still hasn't tried it yet.  He is worried about the cost of buying the game + 2 addons, we need a trilogy set!!!

I know I'm not objective on this but if I like a game this much and can afford it than I'd like to support the developers to provide....more fun for me in the end
A trilogy set is normal....but deep discount and epic fail? I wouldn't go that far.

Ditto. If I was a billionaire, I wouldn't set up a Cancer fund, I'd set up a 4x Space Game fund.

[Picard] Noble senitment, Commander Data [/Picard]

The difficulty is that people who have not yet played DW cannot know how much they like a game. A fact compounded by there being many so-so (at best) games going around. A big name game can usually get away with charging a premium (but they just as often fail to deliver) but DW would not fit into that category (yet). The reality is that the best support for the long term viability of DW is in expanding its customer base... lets just hope that it does not come with comprising the quality of the game and hence the fun of people like you and me. Given the way it has progressed thus far a reasonable discount and sustainable growth are indicated.

[Picard] Make it so. [/Picard]

Combined price of DW + RotS + Legends will place it over the price of most market offerings. That will dissuade a lot of potential customers.

Without a discount to bring that price to a more acceptable (for the new customer) price, Matrix is only really marketing to its established customer base.

That, in my books, is "epic fail".

This genre doesn't tend to lend itself to market expansion anyway. Word of Mouth is the only way this game will spread, and the type of gamer that buys Space 4x games consistently (or any grand strategy game, since I think Paradox fans would enjoy this too) is also the kind of gamer that buys all the ones that look good, regardless of price. Even if they have to wait until the discount.

I'm just putting it out there that when DW,RotS, and Legends are done being patched I'd love a boxed gold edition of the DW series.

Given the current pricing, a newcomer to DW will have to cough up about $100 for the digital download version - $130 or so if he wants boxed.

You don't think that will make people think twice?

From what I've seen, Matrix Games usually has special pricing for a game series when an add-on is released. I wouldn't worry about price being too high for new comers.
