I thought "unions" were a thing of the 1950s in the UK...

You're probably thinking of British manufacturing.

The unions are still around, mostly ruining bank holiday weekends etc when they invariably go on strike demanding more pay, better working conditions or new socks and chocolate Hobnobs instead of Rich Tea biscuits in the crewroon or some such bollocks. They pretty much lost a lot of power after Maggie took on the miners in the 70s (or was it 80s? I wasn't born until '82 so I can't remember).

TBH, as an airman I'm not entitled to join a union. Partly because the RAF won't let us, but mostly because if we did then there's a danger we'd have our demands met and then have nothing to complain about.

So's everyone else.

I wouldn't say that. Although I have memories of telling USAF personnel in Al Udeid that the AAR pods under the wings of the VC-10s were high level insertion pods for SAS raids.

It's a well known fact that the lower down the military ranks you are, the more there is to complain about. So given my rank, not much danger. But there's the risk that it could happen!

Feeling a Vietnam vibe tonight. Listening to a bit of CCR, Rolling Stones and Steppenwolf. It's like Tour of Duty, but without the acting stuff.

It will take 3 of us to match your total, Spambot!

As a matter of fact, Nik and Leo together might be the only 2 people who could add up to your total.

We have temperatures above +20 degrees Centigrade for whole week now... blue skies and sun... it was after long long winter that broke all snow fall records...

Lots of snow still on the ground. Now it seems that the weather is going to change for the better next week. Possibly getting to 60F. plus. Now the problem turns to a fast melt bringing on flooding. It just never ends. No happy mediums. If and when the bridges start shutting down, I am not going to be none to happy. As my part of town will have the only open bridge for over 70 miles north and south. There is going to be hell pay trying to get to work in the mornings when traffic turns tenfold. Maybe I should setup a troll booth on the North Dakota side.
