I wonder if the 'background check' is a bogus catch-all HR-speak explanation used for discrimination for things that you're not supposed to discriminate against.

That's my thinking. I guess I could go back to driving truck, but then I will have no time to hang out here

Why not? With satellite / 4G wireless being what it is and laptops / tablets being what they are, couldn't you find the ability on the road? Thou shalt not Faber 'n drive, but lots of THREADians subsist with the occasional drive-by / pogo-stick by.

Bitter sweet day for me.

It's my B-Day. And I just got turned down for a great job that I was told by the interviewer I was perfect for. It went to HR, and I "Did not pass the back ground check". I have Top Secret clearance...

Happy Birthday, anyway! Have a drink, have another, get blitzed and cause a ruckus, get arrested, and then have a legit reason to not pass the background check!

+1! Sorry about the job .

Hory crap! I totally forgot about Steve-o's B-day. Good catch, USS Mike.

I think he's turning 65 today too. Maybe it's 70.

Er....I was born in 1957. That's AD. , Not BC.

Considering all the noise regarding Snowden's and others recent activities, as well as other likely, but undisclosed similar events, one can be certain that steps have been taken to "crack down" on security and background checks for civilian contractors, particularly those with previous security clearances. Such reactions can be carried out in blanket form in the interests of being thorough, resulting in collateral damage: legitimate prospects being turned down for "security reasons".

I'm sorry about your setback, Lecivious.

I think CB has the right of it. ‘Security clearances’ are vetted (high end, but still ..) to ensure you are not now, or don’t have some issue that will let you be, later, a risk for the security of the stuff you are cleared for. Obviously didn’t work too well in the case of the Snowdens out there.

But commercial HR don’t know jack-all about jack-$hit. They are the bottom of the corporate food chain. It’s where the Director of Facilities Management can get a place for his cretin nephew. Commercial HR has no standards, and there is no recourse. Even if you are God, some little HR weenie is gonna think your beard is a problem, so thanks for your interest and we’ll get back to you.

Just FYI, I have had people like you, along with your recruiter, push back against the REMFs, if they really wanted the position. Up to you, though.

[ed] it is possible that you are perhaps too European or too male for them to meet their EEOC standards, just now. HR folks look at that a lot; just thinking.

Ciao. JWE
