So you're well and truly heading off then? I'd been thinking that it was a 'maybe / probably one of these days' sort of thing.

As far as I'm concerned I'm done and dusted. There's the option of applying for three more years to reach my 15 year point, but I don't see any benefit to doing so. Three more years as an SAC is not something which is appealing to me given how things are developing in the RAF. Even if I get an offer of promotion (which I'm not holding out for) there are only a handful of postings which would appeal to me and even those are a step down from BBMF. Two years gives me plenty of time to get myself prepared and hopefully start an HNC/HND and get some courses under my belt.

It was always going to be 'one day' but Mrs Dixie has been promoted at work, the sprogs are going to want a settled family home and I think it's the right time to move on. I've had some good times and I wouldn't change it, but the good times are getting less frequent and less fun.

P.S. Anyone out there maybe mind running an eye over my C.V. (not the ship type)/resume?

I can look at your CV if you like Martin. What career(s) are you looking at?

Thanks Simon, I'll send it over by email later. I'm not 100% set on any particular career, if it keeps a roof over the family and food in them I'll consider it. Ideally it'll be something technical with big machines, I'm leaning towards the railways at the moment. A lot of the skills I've gained are transferable to several industries though, so I'll be looking at plenty of options.

The reason I was asking was because you need to target your CV toward particular career goals. I'm sure you'll learn this and more as you start the resettlement process.

Mine is massively geared towards the engineering/technical side of things at the moment. I'm not sure I'd be cut out for office work.

I went from hitting nuclear weapon launch systems with a hammer to IT; I'm sure you can too.

We had one of your lot on the course with us this week. Some sort of reactor operative, didn't have any superpowers though. Which was a shame.

This one is heading to the RAN apparently.

To be fair, there are some decent paying jobs that I'm looking at. £45k to fix trains isn't bad, but the going rate seems to be around the low 30s. Of course, I could always learn to be a train driver.

I'd imagine Bombardier at Derby will be or are looking.

Bombardier, DB Schenker, DRS, East Coast, Porterbrook, Freightliner, Siemens... there's a good list of companies who are recruiting now, of course they might not be recruiting in 18 months though.

What a day...

Mother had a PE last week and now they have thinned her blood too much and now she has some bleeding internally and spent most of the day with her taking her to various tests. Things are much better this evening, but it was a long day...

Anyway, tithe...

Hi all,

quote:

ORIGINAL: USS America

Poor Alex took a hard shot square in the grill in his last game of the season Saturday night. Later in the game, he was knocked over and hit the side of his head on the goal post. He came away with a mild concussion. CT scan shows no bleeding or swelling, but 4 days later he still has a severe headache and some nausea. Went to a neurology specialist in concussions this morning and he is not worried about any damage, only trying to get Alex to feel better and recover from the headache. Most likely, the concussion has triggered a migraine as well. Dr pulled Alex out of school for the rest of the week and started a strong migraine treatment for several days. No physical activity, no computer, video games, television, or even texting on his phone. Alex is pretty miserable, but his mom and I are extremely relieved that there is no permanent damage.

Fingers crossed!

Alex is feeling much better and talked us into letting him go to school today. He'd rather be there and doing schoolwork than being bored at home.

Mornin' youse guys.

Viking Dude: I'm dyin' to know what the location was of your students' quiz. Anyplace we'd heard of from a historical perspective?

On a pseudo-political front: Does Sweden have any defense pacts with any Scandinavian neighbors or are they still quintessentially "neutral"? Anything further with the Nordic defense pact development since this?

http://www.defensenews.com/article/20130124/DEFREG01/301240015/Sweden-Looking-Build-Nordic-Defense-Pact

ETA: I'd be seeking to 'align' myself with either NATO or Sweden right about now if I was Finland....

Interesting to be watching the news about the Malaysian airline 777. Watching the news people butcher the names we have been butchering for years is slightly amusing in what is a terrible situation.

Thanks everyone, just looking for a place to vent... I am appreciative of all your well wishes and have passed them on to her. She is surprised so many people are sending her well wishes. I explained this board is from all over the world.
