9 February 1942 ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DEI: In the Java Sea the 2 DD shielding force is hit by everything the Allies can bring in the area. The CAP does well, severely diminishing both fighter and strike plane stocks. The Minegumo takes one fish and might not make it back to port. She has 74 float damage and is only making 6 knots. I'll put her in cruise and hope for the best. Still, with over 40 Allied planes destroyed on the day, a good result. The troops are safely moving forward. Batavia port is hit by Nells again, and several more minor ships are hit hard. A small 2 plane raid of 4E comes to Balikpapan and the CAP likely takes out both. CHINA: So based on the information supplied by Dan above, I have a long way to go in China still. I knew that, but it seems even more daunting now. The division near Yenan wins another fight and moves forward. BURMA: Still hitting Rangoon and Moulmein and no sign of Allied air power. MALAYA: Another bombardment. The troops are as rested as possible, and tomorrow we'll try a DA. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Feb 09, 42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Batavia , at 49,98 Weather in hex: Heavy cloud Raid spotted at 28 NM, estimated altitude 12,000 feet.
