Aug 17-31, 1944 RESUMING THE AAR: Well, it's been a while! The game as been going steadily, but the action hasn't been that new, so I didn't want to bore everyone with endless reports of the same air actions for several months. Some thing are starting to happen, so I'll quickly go through some updates and get to the present. BURMA: The Allied army continues to march from side to side of the Central valley in Burma. I move troops back and forth. That's about it. CENT PAC: Truk is still sitting pretty while everything West of there has been effectively abandoned. All Marianas bases are ready, with lots of prepped troops and good forts at 6-7. SW PAC: In SW Pac the Allies continue to bomb Woleii and intermittently hit bases in Northern New Guinea. He is really feeling his way slowly here, which is fine by me, as Hollandia and Sarmi continue to be able to be supplied by xAKL. He sends DDs in occasionally to hit some, but others still get through. One DD run is hit by MTBs, which is surprising and fun. He continues to bomb Woleai, but we set LR CAP every once i na while and get some P-38s and B-24s too. All of this attention is having little affect on the base, which the engineers clean up. The main defenders are being kept at Babeldaop and will be flown in at first sight of trouble. On the 24th he sends in a damn good BB bombardment of Hollandia. Ouch!! We did manage to get ALL groups out via xAKL that were sitting in the base for this reason. Then the 200+ engineers fixed it up and we moved back in! The BBs come back on the 29th and we have a DB strike get slaughtered by LR CAP. On the 30th sweeps hit a lone Tojo group at Biak, and it does surprisingly well. Still finding this plane useful after its sell-by-date. One other note is that he's using B-29s to hit fields and ports, which I like. The more used against these targets, the less around to hit industry later! In a strike on the 31st they actually hit some CAP, with the newly arrived Ki-84b playing a part. Curious about this plane as I've not used them in previous games. So far so good! A nearly abandoned Vanimo is taken on the 31st. I was thinking he'd walk from there to Hollandia, but so far he hasn't during the next two months. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Aug 20, 44 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Hollandia at 93,116, Range 2,000 Yards Japanese Ships MTB G-538 MTB G-541 MTB G-542 MTB G-544 Allied Ships DD Lamson DD Cushing DD Downes, Shell hits 3, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage Reduced sighting due to 7% moonlight Maximum visibility in Partly Cloudy Conditions and 7% moonlight: 2,000 yards -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Aug 24, 44 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 482 encounters mine field at Hollandia (93,116) Allied Ships DD Monssen, Mine hits 1, heavy damage -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack near Hollandia at 93,116 Japanese Ships SSX Ha-46, hits 2, heavy damage Allied Ships DD Kalk SSX Ha-46 is sighted by escort Ha-46 bottoming out .... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sub attack near Hollandia at 93,116 Japanese Ships SSX Ha-50, hits 8, heavy damage Allied Ships DD Kalk SSX Ha-50 launches 2 torpedoes at DD Kalk Ha-50 bottoming out .... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Naval bombardment of Hollandia at 93,116 Japanese aircraft no flights Japanese aircraft losses N1K2-J George: 35 damaged N1K2-J George: 5 destroyed on ground Ki-43-IV Oscar: 37 damaged Ki-43-IV Oscar: 6 destroyed on ground Ki-84a Frank: 53 damaged Ki-84a Frank: 7 destroyed on ground J2M3 Jack: 23 damaged J2M3 Jack: 3 destroyed on ground Ki-100-I Tony: 19 damaged Ki-100-I Tony: 2 destroyed on ground Japanese Ships xAKL Chosen Maru, Shell hits 1 Allied Ships BB Tennessee BB California Japanese ground losses: 427 casualties reported Squads: 1 destroyed, 1 disabled Non Combat: 4 destroyed, 25 disabled Engineers: 3 destroyed, 11 disabled Guns lost 22 (7 destroyed, 15 disabled) Airbase hits 15 Airbase supply hits 7 Runway hits 58 Port hits 1 Port supply hits 1 OS2U-3 Kingfisher acting as spotter for BB Tennessee BB Tennessee firing at Hollandia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Naval bombardment of Hollandia at 93,116 Japanese aircraft no flights Japanese aircraft losses J2M3 Jack: 5 damaged N1K2-J George: 7 damaged Ki-43-IV Oscar: 6 damaged Ki-43-IV Oscar: 1 destroyed on ground Ki-100-I Tony: 31 damaged Ki-100-I Tony: 1 destroyed on ground Ki-84a Frank: 12 damaged Allied Ships CL Trenton CL Richmond Japanese ground losses: 32 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled Airbase hits 9 Airbase supply hits 2 Runway hits 15 CL Trenton firing at Hollandia CL Richmond firing at Hollandia -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Aug 29, 44 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 430 encounters mine field at Hollandia (93,116) - Coastal Guns Fire Back! 7 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
