I expect flak losses to be substantial. But hopefully I can trade lost Helens for ships.

Status: offline 		Allies bombarded four ports on Honshu this day...coastal guns ineffective.

Type 3 tanks not flowing as I had hoped into the armor units. Fresh troops keep draining my vehicle points...

The last ride of the Helens...about 250 bombers will be hitting Kushiro where I expect to run into 20-50 fighters. Sweeps going in first and only 40 fighters escorting.

The goal is the 100+ ships in port, but I expect even without fighter opposition, the local flak will be quite murderous. But you never know, perhaps he has lightened the load. Or perhaps I fly in during a day when a CVE task force arrives.

Perhaps I can catch the Allies being a bit sloppy.

June 11, 1944

Very quiet day, no deliberate attacks in Indochina. The Mogami foundered -- she was caught in port two months ago by B29s and was trying to make for repairs and had to move from one port to the next to avoid air attacks until she finally couldn't do it anymore. Inglorious end.

Our low sweeps prove a veritable disaster, and half of the bomber are shot down. The other half make bombing runs, and despite being the creme de la creme with high experience and high ground bombing skills we fail to score any hits. Not one hit on a port, port supply or the over 100 ships docked here.

Ah, well. The bombers would just have ended up burning up on the ground from his bomber strikes anyway, but losing all those Franks, and good pilots, really stings.

Over at Hiroshima, 3 waves of P47 dance with a combined force of Jacks, Tony and Frank with a handfull of Franks and Oscars and Tojo.

I guess I was under 3-1 losses against the Jugs over Hiroshima despite three sweeps. That isn't so bad.

Status: offline 		I am doing okay here for now, other than I can't get enough supply to the troops.

The powerful 2nd Tank Division is at Tourane. I suspect it is only a matter of time before the Allies mount an amphib attack at Hainan or beyond. Not sure how much I want to defend forward.

Should I fall back to Vinh, shorten my lines, and hopefully get some troops further back in China along the coast? Or defend Cam Ranh Bay and hold the stalemate?

I need two months for my shattered troops to rebuild most likely, and if I fall back to Vinh now I am not sure I would slow down any amphibious invasion anyhow.

Status: offline 		A huge slug of engineers reach Nanning today. These guys have trod the long retreat, as you can see from their operational planning. I know I should probably change their prep, but motivation is lacking...plus I have no clue where to send them all. I guess I will man all the air bases in China with something, and push the others to the coast which is the highest risk.

The long retreat from Burma. Ugly.

Status: offline 		A TOE upgrade. Hooray! What I really need is the 8cm to 12cm AA upgrade, but these pea shooters will help. The Allies like to use their SBDs bombing Honshu, and ground troops.

Rather than click on all troops individually, to rest mode, I will simply do it globally. I wonder how hard the armaments hit will be. No worries, I have plenty.

Status: offline 		Lang Son. Hard to describe what a wonderful rebuilding base it is. No malaria. The troops have actually gained some morale resting here. I pulled two divisions out already and sent them to Canton, and Hong Kong. A third division just left for Cam Ranh Bay Area to bolster the lines there. Perhaps these guys can recover and fight at Hue, Tourane, Vinh or even, dare I think it, Cam Ranh Bay. Japanese troops can recover fast, too bad I can't swamp them in supplies.

Lots of HQs here at Lang Son. China Command is within 9 hexes of Vinh, and is prepped for it. If I can hold the Chinese coast, I suspect Vinh, with its level 5 forts, triple HQ prep, should be a nice blocking position (too bad it is merely jungle). Other HQs are prepped for Cam Ranh Bay, Hue, Tourane, and Lang Son.

I just don't see how I can afford to pull back to Vinh, without being forced back. Too much nice terrain I will never see again. Too many big airbases for the Allies to build up. Too many ports for them to sortie from. Hue, Tourane, Cam Ranh Bay. Just have to fight...and risk the encirclement by an Amhibious landing.




These troops were really had it rough in the long retreat from Burma. The Japanese infantry division is very resilient.

You sure about that? My bombers seem to have laser accuracy on port attacks despite having no training besides ground.

No, I think it was flak and fighter getting thru. Weather didn't help.

Losses are large, but I am learning lessons. The important part is to remember them.

Betties perform a night naval attack on American Destroyers, they miss but the Allies fly lots of non-nightfighters in the NF role.

Only sweeps over Honshu today.

Lots of bombardments, no attacks by the Allies today.

Status: offline 		This is where the IJA trapped a large Allied Armored thrust. The heavy artillery has been pounding them daily ever since. The Armored units AV is down in the teens.

Status: offline 		Another invasion coming. I thought for sure it was Luzon invasion. I have never predicted an invasion spot once spotted. But, if the past is any guide to the future, he will go to where I am weakest.

I am still reinforcing Okinawa...trying to fly the last part of the 100th Division in there.

Down south the Allies are pushing forward two nasty armored brigades, but letting all their divisions rest at Saigon. The dogs. Get out on the front lines and get malaria.

So that is probably 4 Allied Divisions resting, preparing for an amphibious invasion behind my lines.

Auditors discovered all the fuel in Fusan! A quick re-basing of the merchant fleet to ports in China fixes the problem.

But you can see we are still delivering fuel to China.

Of course, however, I need supplies. I need fighter engines. I need time. The usual Japanese problems.

As far as I am aware, no regiment or brigade has the IJA 43 squads. Generally, they lack good heavy weapons too.

Artillery is where it is at, artillery and AA. In general I am trying to use my armored units in a reserve fire brigade style...using them to temporarily hold front line positions until enough IJA infantry and artillery can arrive allowing the tanks to fall back.

Status: offline 		Maybe there are some infantry units that get the Type 2 Tank, but I haven't spotted any yet so far.

Type 2 Lt Tank has a range of 2, pretty unique for the IJA, but I currently have no units that can upgrade to it.

September...about the time I get my rocket artillery, too.

If I remember correctly from my game with Erik many of the later arriving Japanese units were quite weak. A bunch of squads and a couple of infantry guns and not much more. Most arrived with very low EXP/MRL too.

This at a time when the USMC divisions upgraded to something horrible (from a Jap POV).

You are quite correct. The starting morale is usually very poor to abject. The Depot Divisions are usually the worst. However they do usually improve fairly quickly given all the HQs on the HI.

Haven't even looked at our turn yet. I understand you attacked me...

This particular unit looks weak, but ah, contraire. It is air mobile...100%.

Which given the proper application, is quite valuable!

I think the biggest issue is the TOE. Moral and EXP can be increased but a weak TOE you can´t do much about. Erik tried defending the Marianas with a bunch of these "low TOE" units and even behind solid forts they can´t defend for long. They just lack staying power despite good AV numbers.

No stress with the turn. Its not like I sit here refreshing my email every 5 minutes or so...*cough cough*...

That looks like a pretty solid unit. The ones I remembered were much, much weaker! That was stock though so they might look very different in DBB!
