Well, taking Shikoku opened up the western half of Honshu to aerial destruction and sweeps. Shikoku has an invasion beach without rail connections.

If the Allies would have moved fast, and focused their bombing on my troops in the open, then he could have cut Honshu in half. Unfortunately for him, I moved faster and stopped the invasion in x3 terrain. Matsumaya then held, and now he has reinforced there, but it still holds.

I have no clue why he invaded Honshu directly, if fact I had just prior come to the conclusion he had no plans on invading Honshu proper (and was terrified of a Chinese landing) and then moved on to Osaka and Nagoya some of the best terrain in the game for me to fight in.

If you read NJP/Wargamer, their first finished game, the Allies just roll across Honshu and the game ends in late Jan 1945 with AV and almost no strategic victory points...here the Allies have 40,000+. I bet he was expecting that outcome.

I think he has to be somewhat frustrated. I know he was surprised the game made it to 1944.

I figure I might be able to penetrate that CAP over the British carrier and will try with a Sentai of Judies and also a Sentai of Helen Kamikazes from another base. Also set some Lilly divebombers up for anti-destroyer flights.

We shall see what happens.

Will the Allies attack again at Nagoya, or will they hold off and content themselves with bombing it back into the dark ages for a few more days.

July 5th, 1944

The Allies move the British carrier and Renown just off shore Ternate, and we fly three strikes against him, only one escorted.

All kamikaze misses...the escorting Oscars do ok, sweeping ahead again. Allied flak is a really a killer...and it is still early yet!

No attacks, but the bombardment on Nagoya is really tough, 1600 losses. Ouch. I should lay some type 88 mines there tomorrow, but I suspect my Iboat will take it on the chin.

Deathstar still prowling around, I wish it would go away as I have some DP guns headed for Shanghai and upriver. Speaking of the river, the town where the Tone is reconned, 9 DL, so she will have to move again.

Wakayama is attacked, south of Osaka by Canadians, Phillipinos and Yanks about a division worth. We held, but I suspect he will wear me down eventually, unless I reinforce.

Which I might do with troops from Osaka...which the Allies have pulled some troops from.

Wakayama has a fully functional refinery, size 50. Plus, why give easy victories to the Allies. I have a clear line of retreat, good terrain to fight in, so a few more troops headed there can't be bad, can it?

I railroad in some troops to Nagoya. I need more units there to soak off the bombardments with. I moved the 10th Inf Brigade in, and despite suffering over 1600 losses to naval bombardments, our disruption is lower on our two infantry divisions there and the AV is up over 150 points. Two or three more days for a fresh infantry division to arrive.

I was thinking about breaking down the infantry divisions to the thirds, but then I am fearful that will allow the bombardments to hit the smaller infantry regiments and brigades too. But I need to come up with a plan for recycling those two divisions.

There are likely significant differences between the two games. I had already taken Shikaku(sp) and was attacking the eastern home islands along with having isolated china and a large amount of land units there plus I had control over Shanghai, etc.

Without at least 2 of those 3 conditions I do not believe I could have done anywhere near what I managed against NJP.

A lot of Japanese armor is one hex northeast of Gifu....where I suspect the Allies are moving with a new thrust, most likely fairly heavily armored. I am worried here about being pushed back...but we shall see what happens.

Oh, no doubt you are correct...but it isn't readily apparent from reading your AAR that NJP had something like five divisions on Formosa bypassed. Plus, all the troops you cut off. So far I have avoided that problem.

Still, I won't last as long as NJP did.

LOL!! It is not exactly a fair test ;] But it is fun to watch action on the home islands. NJP is running circles around me in this new game so he will last even longer!!

It is the little things, a nice sweep and I haven't had better sweeps all game than this little gem. Meaningless, really, in the grander design -- but a nice morale boost for me.

Good day in the air, and the Allies didn't do that much damage to Honshu.

Nagyoya, Cam Ranh Bay and Quinhon bombarded by the Allies. An I boat sinks a DE with a well placed torpedo. The DE was escorting two LST near Nagoya.

Golly gee wilkers, even the French are out to get me.

Near Ternate...

I sent some Myojo kamikazes after a pair of destroyers, all 8 get thru LRCAP, but they all miss...despite having great pilots.

An Allied sweep goes horribly wrong here.

Another 8 Myojo miss against the two Fletchers, while another squadron blunders into an element of the Deathstar off the Bonins. A tough day to be a Myojo pilot.

Spitfires sweep in the afternoon, and then Hiroshima is heavily bombed.

Still, a good day in the air almost. Shouldn't have sent the Myojo out...

The interesting thing here, is the squadron of Kamikazes (about 30 strong) flew two sorties of 8 planes each against a task force of 2 destroyers. The local commander feeling to fly 30 planes against so small a task force was wasteful no doubt, and although I missed, I feel better about using large squadrons of kamikazes.

Matsumaya is attacked again today, and holds, but the forts drop a level. Need more troops with AT capability there if I want to hold.

Meanwhile, Nagoya is full of Allied Tanks all of a sudden. That can't be good, while the Allies push to sever the railroad line to the north.

This division shows up in Nagoya today, fresh from training to be bombarded by 6 BB, 6CA, and a horde of DDs and DEs.

Oh my, I fear their morale won't improve anytime soon.

Check out that prep Lok!

great and impressive AAR. is it taking more than 30 min each Japanese player to complete a turn at this stage of the war? I think US has even more units than Japanese side at this stage but Japan production also is time consuming for grand campaign..

Welcome aboard Fulcrum. Glad to have you here.

It takes almost 30 minutes to watch the video, and then thirty minutes to move my air force, 10 minutes to hide my ships again, and then 10-15 minutes to plan out the turn. I could still devote a lot more to the turn, especially if I start playing with my pilots, which I try to do weekly.

I try every day to hurt the Allies somewhere, somehow, but most times I fail.

Allies will get 2-1 sometime this month, and then I have to work to hold off a 3-1 and autovictory in 1944.

Allies bombard, bomb Nagoya and Hamamatsu exceptionally heavily. With everything in fact. BB,CA, CL, DD bombers of every make, and then the now tank heavy Allies attack....shock attack that is.

Allies pick up 118 VP today, they won't win the game by this approach. Ok,they will, but it will take longer.
