No night bombing.

Chengtu falls! B24s bomb the ground troops at Chengtu, but too little, too late. One point of HI and one point of Manpower damaged. However, will B24s return to attack the HI on the morrow?

B24s strike deep, at Kavieng, and this is the first real 4E matchup between the agile Oscar sporting dual cannons versus the beasties.

Lots of transport planes working away at Kavieng, and I thought it real possible the Deathstar would focus their attention here.

That Lightning squadron has gotten chewed up lately, once over Rabaul were Georges and Zeroes trashed them.

If he is, it may be a good place to fight him. Stack the Marianas full with fighters and strike aircraft and put the KB one hex west of Tinian.

Good CV battle is what we need

Good place to fight. You can have LBA support he not. LBA dont have big chance to get trough deathstar CAP but they can make havoc reducing it effectiveness. Especially low flying attack can force many fighter to go low giving some space to KB strike

Here is some intel that might lead one to think the Deathstar activity is but a feint for an invasion in the Bay of Bengal...

Sept 6, 1943

No night bombing.

Heard at least 4 mine hits during the turn, one Yank sub listed as sunk near Manila. Subs rush into Guam and Saipan, which are mined, and I think one sub there may be sunk from something (air most likely). Lots of Aerial hits on subs in CentPac and also near Singers. I lost a 2 vp xakl at Guam, that was out as bait... Checking tracker show 2 mines consumed, with plenty of mine tenders, at Bataan. Truk lost some, but there is no mine tenders there anymore, as did Moulmein. My first success with mines in a long time. Interesting to note, that I drop minefields in small amounts as the larger minelayers are all coral reefs (except for one near the HI).

A destroyer nails another sub with a direct hit in the Singers area...

The Yank Deathstar moves all the way back to the Marshalls. Big move 18 hexes. Pity.

Great success in the AMc training program, at least a half dozen ships have improved either day or night experience just by being in a task force in port. However, all ships that improved had experience below 25, above 25 and no improvement. However, the AMs are out about, in task forces at ports, and they are increasing their experience even though it is in the 40s now.

Normal Allied bombing all over, plus plenty of sweeps.

Too bad. Keep it out of sight! Although it might have been spotted already if he high-tailed it back so fast. I've found my read on detection is not always accurate.

I don't think it was spotted, but I am sure he knows it is in the area.

Yanks have great detection levels on Guam and Saipan this turn...I searched the op report and no clue how he managed to get such good results. 34 -35 hexes from Roi Namur, so I guess he is using some of those really long legged recon planes. Naval search outside of the the bases doesn't exist.

Chengtu is online and producing HI after one day. However, spare supply is exceptionally scarce and it has no fighter protection. So far the Allies don't seem intent on bombing Industry, and I think have bombed oil or refineries only twice during the entire game.

I am going to try out some Helens at 6000 feet against Allied destroyers this turn...I wonder if they can hit?

I expanded -45 engines some more, not sure how heavy to go here since my main Army fighter will be the Ki202 and the Navy will be Sam J. Production is close to 400 a month now; close to 1000 in the bank. Expanded engines for the Nick D also...close to 60 per month.

I have three factories researching rockets...and it is currently accelerated to 6/45.

No night bombing.

One Yank CV group is near the Marshalls, the other missing, perhaps, although the Yanks got high detection from carrier planes on a Iboat south of Midway. Or is it covering an invasion of Wake?

Heavy bombing in Indochina...normal bombing elsewhere.

Lots of supplies unloading at Umboi, things quiet in Oz, Port Moresby, NorthPac, Bay of Bengal. Can't believe it is this quiet.

No night bombing.

Normal heavy sweeps and bombings from Allies.

Allies seem to be clearing minefields at Ponape and Kusaie. Something hits a mine, most likely a YMS, and sinks. Coastal guns don't fire.

Allied deathstar at Ailinglaplap.

Nothing spotted sneaking up on Wake.

Taiho and two CVLs join the KB, further augmenting its striking power.

Allies are still able to maintain high detection levels on Guam and Saipan. Highest on Guam, and I am a little baffled at how they are still there, being 34 and 35 hexes from closest allied base of any level. I wonder what I am missing?

In Indochina, the Air war continues to grind, with Allies continuing to bomb the front line bases heavily, and occasionally springing deep bombing raids. This turn, I moved another 200 fighters to Chiang Mai, and they will hopefully spring a surprise inflicting much damage while avoiding Thunderbolts.

I also moved some Oscar IVs forward at Ponape or Kusaie for the same thing. Moving some small destroyer forces to run in and try to sink Yank minesweepers, and of course, more supply is moving to the Central Pacific whose thirst for it seems unlimited.

KB to Pagan...Yank subs have moved well back from the Marianas, but may rush in (a tactic I always liked). The Empire has a wolfpack off Ramree awaiting a juicy target, and another south of Perth to nail the ports there.

I have come to the conclusion that flak, while it can protect bases, cannot inflict enough bomber fatalities, and I need to keep springing CAP traps at every opportunity to bleed Allied air power...the Ki-100-I will be better at it than the Tojo IIc which is now pretty much base defense. In this particular CAP Trap in Indochina, I have 100 Georges and 100 Oscar IVs, and after the trap, they will all rail back to Bangkok. I feel that this is really a cheesy, unrealistic, gamey tactic, but so what...it is a game after all.

Cheers to a bloody day on the morrow. His blood.

Allied plane losses from tracker. Bear in mind they are somewhat inflated. I really need to inflict more damage, especially on his newer frames Jugs, Corsairs, Lightnings, and especially bombers.

I will be looking at setting up traps wherever possible in the upcoming months, and to defend against deep raids, perhaps have some roving sentais of fighters that shift bases every few days depending upon detection levels...need to think about that one a little more before I try it.

No night bombing.

Destroyers catch the Stingray, and deliver a pounding with one solid hit, fuel leaks, torpedo room damage, control room damage, etc. However she doesn't go down.

On the other hand, a Iboat south of Ceylon gets jumped by a CA/DD surface group and gets sunk. Lousy Allied ASW.

My cap trap is only a partial success in Indochina, manage to bag a dozen Blenheims, more Hurricanes, 4 Jugs, but lose 20 fighters...not a great trade, but about the best I can get with Jugs sweeps hitting me.

Chinese fighters catch some Helens and balances out the bomber losses, flak and ops downs more Allied 4es...

Blenheims. Ugh. They are about the easiest Allied bombers to fireball.

If only I would have trapped Pegu or Toungoo instead.

I forgot to take a picture of it; but I have a dozen subs, all undetected, surging into Ramree Island this turn where search has spotted some BB/CA, plus the normal pt boat swarms.

I hope to overwhelm his ASW efforts and get a few licks in. Anything to slow down the pace of naval operations in the Bay of Bengal.

No night bombing.

IJN Subs get trashed at Ramree...solid intel on the CA force, no BB present, one sub lost, and three damaged...I think they launched two torpedoes. Another sub is trashed in the CentPac between Hawaii and LA.

Focused bombing in Indochina, which is a direct result of the captrap from yesterday. This will allow more airfields to repair fully...all my fighters safely back at Bangkok flying CAP in such numbers as to preclude any Lightning sweep.

An invasion fleet (?) is spotted in the CentPac guarded by one of the Yank carrier groups. Whither is the second CV group; and what is the target? Should I attempt to get Eniwetok within 8 hexes of the KB? Hmmm....

Chinese troops shock attack on the road to the central plains and get 1-99 odds with predictable losses.

Lots of sub actions, where another Iboat goes down, against several fleets moving north towards Wake Island. CV planes sweep the island....

Kavieng:

Lightnings take a mauling, losing more fighters than Japan, (and no Georges lost).

Unfortunately, the fight took the CAP to high for very low flying 4E which close the airfield and kill an equal number of transport planes.

In the CentPac, I put a squadron of Betties on 1000 foot naval strikes, with skill only around 35, they aren't going to hit much but I am impressed with their ability to survive the flak put up by 3 destroyers...perhaps this would be a solid antifletcher option.

In China, I drop the bombing altitude for most planes to 4000 and the damage done escalates very nicely with no flak. Bomb Kunming at 4K destroying a half dozen Chinese P40s and Lancers with only one squadron of bombers.

Wake Island: Stuffed to the rafters with troops, AA, ART, but very few coastal defense guns. The famed CD guns have been moved, to Umboi Island which now seems like a horrible idea. I had hoped they would die fighting on Umboi, and then be reborn to fight in the Marianas. It now looks like the Allies will skip the area entirely.

Several Yank battleships are scant hours away, hundreds of planes, and if the past is any guide, tanks will be coming ashore in the first wave. Oh, my.

But wait, where is the KB? The vaunted IJN! Why, They are busily sipping sake each evening in Pagan, while flying practice during the days. Wake is left to suffer on their own...

---Game note: we seem to be on hold for several days as some unknown calamity has happened to the Allies.

Just a few quick notes, so I don't forget:

Japanese CAP trap in the Car Nicobar area; I let a heavy bombardment looking surface fleet get spotted, and now will send a fast transport PB force north with two full squadrons of Georges flying a heavy, heavy CAP. I hope to really butcher some of his anti-shipping planes here -- he did have success several days ago when two APDs returned to port here by mistake (sinking one and damaging the other). This is their revenge.

China, normal Japanese bombing and sweeps. Heavy George CAP over some airfields within Lightning raid distance. I think I moved everything back from Jugs distance.

I had 4 xaks hanging out in Hanoi, they got spotted, and then I swamped the base with fighters, but no bombers attacked. It seems I get to pull off one trap for every five tried.

Wake: destined to fall. I thought previously about prepping a division plus to retake the island, but it simply isn't worth the risk. I like very much how I spotted the attack ahead of time, and I like how the Allies moved their invasion fleets up. If, and it is a big if, he stays with this tactic I think I can bloody him very nicely at either Marcus or on the approach to the Marianas, and even at Ponape or Kusaie (most likely Ponape).

While he is busy at Wake, I am moving lots of supply forward to Umboi, Rabaul, Ponape line. And also withdrawing some forces from Milne Bay to the lower Solomons.

Lots of Yank subs off the Home Islands now, 4-6 hexes away. Disappointed so far with my DD/3E hunter killer group, but at least they are gaining expereince. In a day or two a whole bunch of Es get done their upgrades, plus a dozen or so decent SC. The AMc training program is going very well, I hope it is worth it in the long run.

The first squadron of KI-100-I are done, and will go to the Marianas/Truk/Rabaul area. Others will head to Indochina where the air war is very active, maybe some to China too. Trying to always use the Army fighters first, and saving the Navy fighters for special events.

South and Central Pacific: Do you know where he is basing his B-24s at?? Is it feasible to send in your Helens with Oscars escorts to hit them while they rest?? With the monthly production and replacement rate you need to thin out these monsters or some important base will be shut down in one day very, very soon. I was able to get 150 to 200 of them over a base at this time in war. Now, it can be 250 to 300 if I need to.
