Not much to report. Heavy bombardment is keeping the Soviets in the eastern front from responding with much more than minor movements.

A GE Engineer gets shot up a bit and sent packing along the river bank. But little else occurs in the east.

At this rate, the Germans will be lucky to get their hands on a single objective (VH) before time runs out. Hah!

The last turn was bad, the soviet arty even took out one panzer in the rear :(

But, attack is the best defence and so two Pz-IV's and a Stug continued the attack. After the action there were one KV-1 and one T28 burning, no losses to Germans  Also shot some infantry and I'm on the process of flanking the soviet defences (yeah, atleast I hope so ;) )

My riverboats also finished off one running squad.

Seems like I'm finally starting to make progress. Maybe I'll even reach one or two VHs by this rate! :p
My Flammenwerfer teams had a bbq - I counted more than a platoon of Russian infantry retreating from the flames. A 12,7mm is fortified in a building and is currently blocking our advance. I tried sending some halftracks against it but no luck yet.
Some minor GE losses, a good turn for us. :)

Too bad about our tanks. Others will have to take their place and follow their example in turning back the tide of aggressors. With our position in the far west compromised, we shift troops to meet any threat to our flanks.

You will die in the streets of Moscow, invaders!

What he said! (and we'll send Tariq Aziz after you, too  )

Not much happening in the east, but A BM-8 Katyusha popped the hood off of a 250/1. That was fun. :D

Pushing forward, some casualities on both sides. Strange that there's no enemy tanks around, atleast yet.

Still making way to the first VHs. :p
Lost a couple of infantry squads and discovered a pillbox. Also, some large caliber arty directed on Russian frontlines. I have managed to connect the original bridgehead and our other troops making an amphibious landing. Things are finally starting to look what they should've been ten turns ago! ;)

Sending the turn to Scharf

Our heroic infantry hammers a Panzergrenadier sqzuad, while the rest of that units platoon is sure soiling their pants under heavy bombardment.

Recon indicates that two Riverboats are escorting a barge and a Schute northwards. We intercept them with our tanks, scoring a number of solid hits, with heavy ammunitions, but all to no avail. Can they be sunk at all? What could possibly survive two 152mm HE hits with neglegible armour???

Apparently I'm one turn behind Scharf?

It's a hot time in the old town tonight. :D

A flammenwerfer team got dispatched after severely harrassing some Conscripts.

Nearby, a Gun crew reported a SPW 250/9 halftrack, a MG Laf team and Zugtroop coming up a main street. Since the infantry were in retreat, Capt. Pixel ordered a T-35 forward to cover the Gun crew and engage the Germans at close range.

A surprise attack from a Fuselier squad in an adjacent building was driven back by the T-35, who also managed to pop the halftrack with a 45mm shot. The MG team was destroyed and the Zugtroop was driven back down the street. The T-35 then backed away from the intersection. ;)

A few houses away, a Rifle squad moved up to fire at an unsuspecting Pioneer squad. The Pioneers took casualties and retreated into the SO Rifle squad's hex. Hilarity ensued as the Soviets vainly attempted to melee with the Pioneers. They're both still contesting the building.

Further east, Soviet units received fire from a PzKpfw IVe. They also managed to ambush a SPW 251/1A, a Zugtroop and another MG team. Soviet Artillery has made some adjustments to match the advancing targets. DerC seems to be picking up steam and advancing more quickly than before. :(

As an aside, one mortar team has reported causing FOUR kills. There are also several runner-ups to that score. Go Arty!!

Smoke covers the battlefield. Visibility just few hexes if even that.

Infantry is moving forward and clearing building for the tanks to follow. Unfortunately those soviet mortars are making life hard for everyone and movement is slow :(

Killed a 76.2mm gun and made some infantry to run away, next v-hex is in my sights !

Progress in the western sector of my bridgehead was halted this turn thanks to the efforts of some fanatic defenders. They probably won't be a problem after next turn. ;)
In the more eastern part I advanced some 100 meters without too many losses. I order my troops there to be prepared for any Soviet counter-attack.

During the arty strikes at the end of the turn, I saw messages stating that one Soviet 120mm and one 50mm mortar malfunctioned. I Didn't realise our intel was that good! :D

It´s always Turn 13 where I lose count...oh well!

Careful small arms fire destroys a SdKfz10/4 we had damaged earlier, while a barrage of direct-fire 152mm HE devastates enemy infantry advancing near the river. The boats are nowhere to be seen, seems someone got cold feet here;)

We have the enemy pinned down all along the line, and under continous shelling. A comfortable situation!

A small battle continues to rage at the crossroads. A T34 crosses barrels and trades several shots with a StuG at point-blank range. It wasn't a pretty sight - for the T-34. :(

Nearby, a shook-up Pioneer squad gets dispatched for the last time and a neighboring Pioneer squad gets driven back towards the river.

Fuseliers and Rifle squads exchange small arms fire all up and down the eastern frontage, but no progress is made on either side.

Soviet Artillery continues to rain down upon the heads of the invaders as they die, scrambling through the rubble of Moscow.

German Nebelwoofers come in and do nearly as much damage to the German infantry as the Soviet's. The Nebelwoofer - a Soviet soldiers best buddy.

Another phase of the game is about to begin as the German troops clash with another line of soviet defenders. Soviet resistance was useless and one squad and a 76.2mm gun are destroyed. Unfortunately fighting was heavy and our troops took some damage.

Now I have two v-hex's in my sights, just wait a couple of turns

Bad news are, one of my squads got lost of the way and came face to face with two soviet KV-tanks, smoke was laid but I don't think that will help much :(

Although i have about half of my troops stuck on other side of the river due to stupid barge carriers who don't understand the word unload.

As for those boats, they're fine, just cruising up and down the river ;)

Knocked out a T-28 and OT-134 this turn. A SU-12 I didn't see until it was too late popped open one of my HTs.
Lots of armor activity overall. In face of our growing strength on the frontline the Russians have been forced to commit their tanks into battle. Frankly, I was surprised when I looked at the replay and saw one of my StuGs take out a KV. I checked the ammo loads next turn, yep, they have APCRs. ;)
During the bombardment phase a 120mm gets lucky and blows a hole right through the top of a PzIV. What a way to go... :(

Back to Scharf in the western sector.

The focus of the german attack in the west seems to have shifted a little. Very well, we will fight the invaders anywhere!

152mm HE is sent towards the enemy, while careful maneuvers are made to counter this most recent thrust.

The Soviet line is holding. Small gains by the Germans are being driven back with all the ferocity we can muster.

Apparently some of the German infantry squads took so much damage advancing through the constant mortar barrage, that one or two more casualties causes them to disperse. The grunts couldn't be happier. :D

An Sdkfz 7/1 was spotted wrecked on the pontoon bridge. Blocking the only crossing point on the map. (I don't know for sure if it's blocked, but it can't be helping matters much. ;) ) The grunts couldn't be happer. :D:D

Capt Pixel's precision mortar fire is crippling the entire advance along the eastern front. Casualties caused by Soviet mortar fire are over two dozen. The grunts couldn't be happier. :D:D:D

The Germans have apparently concentrated their off-board artillery, and much of their on-board artillery as well, along the eastern line of advance. 150s and 105s are raining down on the Conscript's heads in massive quantities. (actually, Capt Pixel couldn't be happier. Do you know why?) The grunts are NOT happy about the German artillery.

Storm on, Sturmpioneers. This is the Motherland and you'll pay dearly with your country's dead sons. Come and die with us comrades, here in Moscow.

 Muahahahahahahaha

A HT was ambushed by a horde of SU-12s and a KV-2. The infantry quickly dismounted and popped some smoke to cover them and called in a Flamingo to deal with the nearby enemy infantry still hiding after our artillery barrage. Just a bit to the east from where this happened we gained more ground. One Pillbox is still holding out despite our efforts pounding it with tank shells.
The part of my forces that isn't running back home seems to be fighting okay..

The enemy is once again probing our lines, supported by heavy artillery. Despite the shelling, they will have found our defences ample!

The T-34 reinforcements are scrambling to reload and fill up on HE and AP rounds at several of the many ammo boxes scattered around Moscow. The attached Tankdesantniki have their rucksacks full of moltovs and clamber back aboard the T-34s.

The Soviet armor will drive the invaders back into the Moscow river. Long before they can even hope to achieve their objectives. :)

A small altercation develops between a soviet pillbox, two StuGs, a PzIV and some mech infantry and their halftrack. The pillbox rallies and dispatches the PzIV. Supporting infantry pester the other vehicles without much affect. Wait until the Lubyanka prisoners get there. You are in such trouble. :D

Along an adjacent street, SU12s accompany a KV2 and drive a small contingent of flammenwerfers and MGs back underneath the soviet mortar fire. Glad that I'm not them!

The German drive in the east seems to have stalled along a line of rubble that has slowed their armor to a mere crawl. So far they've only managed to creep forward from the river banks a mere 300-400 meters.

German bombardments in the east have lightened somewhat. Capt Pixel suspects that they've started to exhaust their off-board ammo and are finding it increasingly difficult to make radio contact.

As an aside, I suggest the Germans take a close look at their artillery. You seem to be dry-firing a number of SPW 251/2s. Their guns have probably broken down, even though there's no indication of this on the artillery bombardment screen. No sense in plotting a unit that won't actually fire, eh?

I manage this situation by renaming the broken/empty artillery unit 'empty' so I won't waste time plotting or assume that I've got a bombardment arriving.

Have at you!

Nice turn :)

Spotted two T34's in the smoke, both propably un-aware of any germans near. Pz III fired few rounds and then Pz IV decrew both, crews were taken care of :)

Only few houses west from that scene another Pz IV cleared some infantry from the houses surrounding the v-hex. V-hex is now in our hands

"Scheisse!"
The colonel was cursing out loud. Enemy mortar rounds falling around his command post at the bridgehead disabled his radio antenna. Some unreliable telephone lines were left and he could only reach a few artillery batteries. He could not possibly respond to all the support requests from frontline units. The pontoon bridge was still intact but reinforcements were slowed down by a few immobilized halftracks.
A messenger stepped in wearing muddy clothes and soaking wet from the rain.
"Finally, some good news!"
The first strategically important areas in eastern Moscow were now only a hundred meters away. The colonel reached for the telephone.

Turn is in Scharf's inbox.

The loss of those T-34s was a most unhappy event. I took out a Pz-IV as a reprisal. Where there are two T-34s lurking, expect a third ;)

152mm HE claimed a couple of german infantrymen, and combined with the to come mortar barrage I predict little progress by the enemy.

The T-34s are loaded for bear and heading towards the river. Morale is high among the Tankodesantniki as their armored rides weave through the rubble that was once Moscow.

A German river boat shows itself out of the smoke-covered river. A Soviet 37mm AA opens fire and hits! And hits again! and hits a third time. Every shot penetrates in excess of the river boats armor - yet she still floats - and fires back!

A 76.2mm AA joins the firefight with the river boat and manages to jam a round in the breech. No more fire from that AA gun.

Sappers advance through the rubble and manage to get the drop on a German halftrack. Boom! on eless halftrack. :D

A Lt Pillbox, facing off two StuGs and two halftracks, trades shots with the StuGs for little effect. A T-35 arrives adjacent to the pillbox, shoots once at a halftrack and forces both to retreat through a nearby building. That was fun to watch. :D

107s rain down on the newly revealed German positions. Die Suckers!

Firefights are erupting all along the eastern frontage. Finally! we're getting a battle over here.
