"Potato Guns" have been popular in the US for years, but they're catching on elsewhere.....

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-558570,00.html

GERMAN youths have taken up a dangerous new pastime: firing potatoes as fast as a rocket from “bazookas” made from drainage pipes. One man almost lost an eye, a woman had her leg broken and one teenager was badly burnt when the hairspray used as the propellant exploded in his face as he prepared to fire.

A 16-year-old in the university city of Göttingen lost part of his ear when the firing chamber ripped open as he pulled the trigger.

The so-called Kartoffelkanone are made from piping and masking tape bought at any hardware store. With a range of 200 metres they could split a man’s head at 15 metres and penetrate a wooden wall at 90 metres."

If the barrel of the cannon were rifled, maybe it could achieve greater distance and accuracy...

I wonder if twice-baked potatoes would have a better spread pattern?

Ah, Drex one doubts you were in a fraternity. Standing order #1, you don't call your fraternity a frat because you don't call your country a ....;)

Or, even more literal: Kartoffelspritzring (lit. Potato thrower)

Hey! My high school German comes in handy!

I was even sicker than that in high school. In welding shop (Adjacent to Food Prep Class) we would build acetylene mortars and you guessed it used potatoes as rounds. Just to make thing interesting across the parking lot was masonry class well within range of a spud round
No offense but back in my day (1969) theta Chi was a joke!
Drex, sorry if I created any confusion. I was not a Theta Chi. I was a Theta Zi (pronounciation).

I couldn't find the greek key for

____
_
____

on my keyboard.
(can't figure out how to show the greek symbol for 1 long line over 1 short line over another long line).

Not to worry, my college days are ancient history, and in those days ZBT was a joke too ,at least at my school: Long Beach State (California). Fraternities were ,and still are, a lot of fun, in fact I majored in Party.
