I thought that might be the case...I would put the AR into a task force, the ship into pierside and see what happens. If it works it mentions the ship in the op report moving to the ARD...but nowhere else. So you won't be able to see the ship actually in the ARD.

Plus, it might take many days to generate enough repair points to fix a point of major flotation.

Tracker will help you tell...perhaps the manage ship repair screen might as well. I will look at it on my next turn.

I used the manage ships under repair screen, from the port screen, and had no problems assigning a ship to an ARD thre. Try that screen.

Once the ship is in the dry dock, it should only take 1 day to remove a point of major flood damage.

I think one of your suggestions worked Lowpe. I put the AR in a TF and the next turn the ship went into the ARD and began repairs. Thanks for your help.

Solomon Islands Campaign, Battle of Munda

MrKane and I have been fighting over Munda for about 2 weeks or so. The island had a good fortification level and 300AV in a brigade and 1 smaller unit. I landed the 2nd marine division along with 2 tank battalions and some artillery and support and have been grinding him down from there.

Recently it has become clear that the island would soon fall to the attacks. MrKane brought in what appeared to be a reinforcement convoy escorted by a cruiser STF, a battleship STF and a CVE carrier group. They were located offshore of the shortlands.

Munda is a tough base to take because the Wake CD guns are there and MrKane has used sub based mines to make it dangerous to fight in those waters.

I decided that it would be a good idea to try to disrupt his plans before he could drop reinforcements on Munda and extend the campaign

My forces consisted of a heavy cruiser group with 4 cruisers led by 'ching' lee, a light cruiser with destroyer escort, a 4 destroyer STF converted from sub patrol and a 2 destroyer STF that had hidden at a dot base nearby. I figured that I had a 3 out of 5 chance of hitting something important before some or all of my cruisers met an ugly end.

The night begins with a very unfair fight. I threw the destroyers in because I had hoped to empty some of the enemies magazines on smaller targets. This one went very well however.

In the 2nd round of battle from 7K yards the Henley puts a torpedo into heavy cruiser Ashigara. Not to be outdone it's partner immediately puts another one into the heavy cruiser. The Ashigara did the only sensible thing and sunk on the spot. Unfortunately, the destroyers were not so lucky with the other cruisers and were pummeled into the history books.

The 2nd combat of the evening involves the 4 destroyer task force. As hoped the combat runs 4-6 turns with no significant damage to either side.

The 3rd combat of the evening was a reversal of the first with 2 Japanese destroyers going against my cruiser force. The first thing that happened is the DD Bush took a torpedo. I was holding my breath for most of this combat. DD Bush managed to take a second torpedo.

The combat was short lasting no more than 3 turns with it ending by a torpedo into the last surviving Destroyer.

The 4th combat of the evening finally saw the cruisers getting together. It was a long bruising close up fight.

It started badly with the Flagship New Orleans running into a mine along with a destroyer. A short way into the fight the New Orleans took a torpedo and later another one that doomed the ship along with at least a handful of penetrating hits from the Japanese cruisers.

The Nachi got Pummeled with 8" shells. It had 2 belt armor penetration causing serious damage, one causing critical damage and another causing an internal explosion along with 3 super structure hits causing fires.

So I am beginning to worry about the Battleships I saw when the phase ends and bombardment begins on Munda.

Now I am worried that there are battleships behind me and my cruisers are seriously out of ammo....

Glad I could help with the ARD. If it isn't too much trouble, could you show me a picture of the ARD, and also let me know how quickly it repairs the major damage. I am thinking it should be close to a point a day.

I fought Lee about 500 times in my game vs Tiemanj. I sank an old slow battleship he was commanding in the Kuriles, but after that it was pretty much Lee winning.

Really nicely done. I like your tactics...and also how you used multiple small task forces and one big one. Kudos.

As a result of the carriers being attacked and damaged beyond air operations the skies above Munda were clear. Which was bad for the amphibious task force arriving to unload reinforcements.

Since landing on Munda I have kept up a constant attack on MrKanes troops through Direct attack, artillery bombardment, armor attacks, air to ground attacks and naval bombardments. During this time I kept dividing and resting my division to attempt to keep disablements low.

I was concerned about the reinforcements so I did a shock attack with the armor and a direct attack last turn.

His AV went from 71 to 0 on the board while I watched and as you can see the combat report shows a lot of disabled/eliminated squads. I think a DA tomorrow might win me the base.

Happy to do it. Dividing the days vs the damage it looks like .67 points per day at the current naval support levels. It may have dropped 2 days from 135 to 133 but the damage stayed at 90 this last turn.

I am currently trying to figure out how to get more naval support on the small island. I have to remove a USAF base to make some space and then try to find something with naval support to augment the growing base.

BDA - Battle Damage Assessment - Or in other words... "what the heck happened???"

In the 1st battle the cruiser Ashigara was sunk for sure. A destroyer was also seriously damaged. This destroyer - The Inazuma detached from the cruiser group along with an escort destroyer. It was these two destroyers that were flattened by the American cruiser group.

In the battle of the heavy cruisers the Nachi sustained heavy fires and heavy damage. I believe that this heavy cruiser along with a destroyer broke off and headed for Rabaul where they are sitting 1 hex southeast at this time.

The next group down the list is the 9 ship battleship group that was no involved in any of the fighting. Below this group is likely the 2 heavy cruisers along with 2 destroyer escort that engaged my heavy cruisers for the 2nd time near the end of the day.

The group below that 1 hex west of Munda is going to be the escort carrier group. It currently contains 4 ships according to naval search.

There are ships I did not detect in the PM phase yesterday or just ran out of bombers at Munda and another unknown group above shortlands.

The ships sunk list gives me credit for 5 ships sunk and 80 points which matches exactly with the destruction of 2 e-boats, 2 destroyers and the Ashigara. I also got credit for 19 A6M8 zero's destroyed on the ground.

The Nachi may survive but if so she is gone to the yards for 4-6 months. The Chuyo took 17 hits, heavy fires and heavy damage and a number of those hits penetrated the hull. I got credit for killing one CVE but not the points yet. My bet is the Chuyo (or Taiyo) is definitely a goner.

The Taiyo which I did get credit for killing took several serious hull penetrations as well so it definitely is not in good shape even if it did not sink.

The Hosho took numerous hits on the deck and superstructure and suffered a fuel storage explosion. Not sure if it can survive that.

Also, quite a few local bases where planes could have rerouted to. Check to see if there is any sudden surge of planes on the ground at the closer bases.

How bout a picture of your ARD like this Japanese one...this from dababes.

Here you go. The ships were solely equipped with a fighter CAP and there are plenty of airfields they could have ditched to so maybe those 19 A6m8's were not all from the same carrier, those could have been damaged ones unable to leave the carriers or something.

The cruisers did really well. One will take some time in the yards but the other 2 are essentially intact. I suspect it is the same on MrKanes side with 2 of his heavy cruisers suffering relatively little damage.

The only takeaway I can come up with is that maybe I need to start including DMS ships in my STF's.

I do have about 10 or so 30 knot DMS nearby.

The cruisers still have high 50's and very low 60's in experience. I am not using any kind of tracking software to tell how much if any changed.

Have you checked and replaced really lousy leaders for your warship that are in action? I do that for the Fletchers as I want them to survive, but gain experience.

Just before I sortied those cruisers I made sure that each captain was 70 or better in naval skill.

On the Ship sunk list I am sure that 6 heavy cruisers out of the 8 listed are actually sunk. Likewise, 7 of the lt cruisers out of the 9 listed are definitely sunk. The CVE's are sketchy, I have not gotten any points on the sunk ship list for them.

Taking out the ships sunk as a result of Pearl Harbor, I have lost a Battleship, 3 escort carriers, and 5 heavy cruisers. I have also managed to lose 24 light cruisers.

I have managed to protect my combat transports and tankers to a good extent in the game which is allowing me some good troop movement ability.

In the solomons the 2nd Marine division finally captured Munda. There was a brigade and other troops there with about 300AV. It took a while to grind them down. Near the end Mr. Kane tried to reinforce with a regiment and had several CVE's damaged and lost 1-2 heavy cruisers. That battle was down to luck and it happened to be on my side.

Right now I am moving engineers to Buna. I just topped off Port Moresby with over 100,000 tons of supplies. I took almost every fighter I have in the theatre and stuck them on CAP over the ships. MrKane can still sweep and get better than 1-1 odds and sometimes over 1-2 odds even when I put up 200+ fighters.

On the plus side, he does lose quite a few fighters and I am guessing he is losing more pilots as I am defending over my bases.
