Eastern India: We have been stagnant in India for months. I finally got more aggressive with my recon flights. Screenshot shows the build up at Gorakhpur (NE corner). The rest is the front lines. Forces are moving to prepare more for a potential attack in the days ahead (two of three tank divisions ordered out of central China for Canton, 3 x 36 Liz air groups leave Hiroshima for India, AA and BF and Air HQs loading at Tokyo).

Glad you are doing better and will hopefully work on getting even healthier.

Those IJN ships are just so well designed. Have fun with her.

I have the last turn for June '43 to do for breakfast tomorrow morning. We did the month in 10 days. However, I didn't see an offensive air mission launched by the Allies. My "spidey" senses say something is going to happen sooner rather than later. The road to Tokyo has to start sometime, right??

He’s going to need those Hellcats as I get the first Frank in about a month. I already have the CV capable George on most of my largest CVs.

I’ve always wanted to see what the Liz and Rita can do. Have you done much with them to-date? It’s a tough thing to justify building 4-Es for Japan given the cost, especially since it seems like they’re far more fragile than the allied options.

Yes. It's a navy plane, and much tougher than a Type 0.

In this version, the 2nd and 3rd gen George are CV capable. In the newest version the Jack is added back and both 2nd and 3rd gen are capable. However the upgrade paths were changed and made more costly so you really cannot do both.

IJA Fighters: Last turn, 43 July 22nd, saw the Ki-84a Frank R&D efforts pay off by advancing to August. Rather than leave it for another week (16 points per day) to get them to July, I advanced the 4 x 30 factories to the 'b' model. Meanwhile, the 4 x 60 factories were each expanded by another 30 to get me to 360/month by end of August. Up until now, I've been satisfied to keep training lots of pilots like my Allied opponent is doing. The will change once significant number of air groups upgrade to the Frank. Plans are for massive sweeps with the 2nd gen George and Frank. The question is how many air groups do I upgrade to the Frank? Is there anything else I need to change for IJA fighters?

43 July: 1st thru 15th means just about nothing else but the continuing campaign in central China and the Sian Pocket.

2nd: After weeks of inactivity, I see some Beaufighters do night time sweeps over Horn Island. Ki-84a Frank to 11/43.

4th: Kienko falls!

8th: NiK4-A George to 1/44

10th: Ki-84a Frank to 10/43 & E16A1 Paul to 1/44

11th: Recon over Geraldton shows... AF8(7); 45F, 57B, 42Aux; 22 LCUs - 23080 trps, 168 guns, 282 AFV

14th: I land at two small dot bases to east of Attu (Agattu & Buldir). Ki-67-Ia Peggy to 3/44, B6N2a Jill to 6/44, Ki-61-Id Tony to 9/43, NE turbojet to 8/45

15th: 2 Allied AVPs that were hiding at Agattu run south, but are found and sunk by 10 DDs send out from Amchitka.

Note: 5 Allied subs are sunk from air and ASW around the very busy island of Hokkaido. The addition of a 36 plane group of Kates at Wakkanai has helped along with 3 ship ASW TF with at least one DD that is radar equipped to assist the 2 'E' that are still without.

One of the things I got John to agree to for this version of BTS Lite was to make one of the older DD classes into an ASW platform. The screenshot shows what the Minekaze Class DD looks like after 7/43 upgrade. A number of these ships will attempt to weaken the Allied sub presence around Japan by end of month. Do you like her??

That is a lot of ASW. 5 ASW mortars plus the DCs that can hit US subs when they dive deep. Seems like overkill, especially if you still get the Super E class late game.

43 July: 16th thru 31st means the Allied forces in central China keep shrinking and their supply situation gets worse. I'm starting to think that Chungking may be doable even with the numbers of Chinese troops there.

16th: Shock attack as troops cross river into Ankang. Forts remain at 3 and my casualties were over 2k.
Ki-84a Frank to 9/43

18th: N1K4-A George to 12/43

20th: two dot bases (Yunaska & Seguam) between Adak and Umnak are captured by Japan.

22nd: Ki-84a Frank to 8/43. 4x 30 factores to 'b' model while 4x 60 factories are increased to 90 each to start production on Aug 1st.

24th: P1Y2 Frances to 7/44

28th: N1K4-A George to 11/43

30th: Ki-43 IIIa Oscar to 3/44

43 Aug - 1st thru 5th:

1st: RO-66 is sunk off Townsville. Playing Japan has really opened my eyes to how much better the Allied ASW is compared to Japan.

2nd: Two small TKs are sunk 2 hexes south of Shikuka (Sakhalin). In response, I've ordered 2 IJA BFs out from Tokyo to Ominato to be transported here. I should have done so long ago. A 36 plane Kate group currently on Hokkaido will be moved up here.

3rd: In China, Chungking sees over 120 Helens and 27 Lily come in at 11k. No flak is encountered. Meanwhile, at the very top of the map in China, Kashgar, sees 27 Lib II & 48 B-24s from India attack my three divisions and AA LCU with minimal damage.

4th: Ki-84b Frank to 2/45

5th: Artillery opens up as troops attack in three spots within the "Sian Pocket." See screen shot. The thing to note is the supply (-) for all of them. I'll rest and try again in a few days.

Yeah, as IJ, you have to use all the hindsight you can just be a little competitive. Truth is, IJ ASW is more dependent upon the allied player laxity than anything the IJ can do.
Unless the allied player sends his subs into known kill zones*, the IJ ASW is not likely to be a threat. These kill zones require so many assets that the IJ can only create a few, a very few of them.

* areas where multiple overlapping air ASW teamed with naval ASW TF's.

43 Aug: 11th thru 15th

Main focus continues to be central China, but the Allied beast is showing signs of life after some time asleep.

11th: Had another xAK sunk up in the Sakhalin.

12th: My ASW sinks O24 2 SE of Tulagi. First an 3in mortar hits, then a Type 2 brings her to the surface where two more direct shell hits finishers her off. A shock attack 1 SE of Ankang as a division crossing the river from SE to tighten the noose. Casualties are 2:1 in Allied favor.

13th: DD eats a TT in Sakhalins, but is able to limp two hexes into port.

14th:

18th:
Just the normal three things in China

19th:
RO-65 is on patrol 2 east of Albany (SW corner of Australia). The Captain fires 6 torpedoes at BB Oklahoma and they all miss. She is damaged enough by the escorting DDs that require her to head back to Port Hedland.

8 of Japan's fastest DDs (6 x Mutsuke Class & 2 x Shimakaze Class) make Full Speed run into Anatom at night. They see 4 SC and run away!!

SS Gunnel sinks a small TK 3 north of Port Hedland

20th:
Weather is in control over China, so only part of daily milk run over Sian occurs

43 Aug: 21st thru 25th
China sees usual bombing of greater Chungking area and Sian on daily basis, weather permitting. Allies continue to bomb my troops way up north at Kashgar (this base is mentioned in latest Tom Clancy novel, "Power and Empire").

21st:
Western Australia - My 16 Rufes are no match for 22 P-47s as I lose 6 planes. Another 50 P-47s escort in 12 PV-1, 46 B-24, 45 B-25. Seeing P-47s here means this axis is important to Allies, IMO.

1 SW Kienko - a deliberate attack pushes Allied troops west and back into clear terrain.

NavS over Busselton (2 SW of Perth) spots 3 Allied carriers (33F, 26B). In response, KB-4 in Aleutians is ordered back to Japan as some CV/CVLs are upgrading. They will reform in early Sept after upgrades are completed and head for northern Australia.

22nd:
I-17 is hit by DC (depth charges) @ 4SE of Suva. She will limp up to Truk and then to small repair shipyard at Saipan.

Carnarvon - 44 B-24s and 39 2e bombers hit CAP-less base. Damage is up to 0-59-48. 5 fighter air groups training in Japan are ordered to Formosa/Luzon to move down to western Australia and Timor area.

23rd:
SS Greenling gets a torpedo hit on DD Okikaze, but she is able to limp 2 hexes to Toyohara.

Sian - Deliberate attack brings forts down to 4, but my casualties are twice the low supplied Chinese troops. A mixed brigade is trashed and PP are spent to buy out (14th Army) and ordered head for coast while prepping for Exmouth.

24th:
Carnarvon - more bombing by Allies raises damage to 0-62-3

1 W Sian - Deliberate attack gets 2:1 odds and Allies suffer more casualties. I divide divisions to enable quicker recovery.

Cold Bay - Allied warships spotted within a day run to bombard base. I set up LB, TB, DB to attack next day.

25th:
Cold Bay - BC Ranger & Constellation, 3 CA, 2 CL, CLAA, 8 DD hit base and retreat to safety of Kodiak. My planes don't have opportunity to hit them. Base damage is 33-37-63.

Port Hedland - Brian tries to sweep base with P-38s vs George on CAP/training. I lose 3 George for 40 P-38s.

Carnarvon - More bombing by 2e & 4e bombers, but my engineers are able to repair faster than Allies can damage. Base damage is down to 0-43-0.

Notes:
Active theaters seem to be western Australia, eastern Aleutians, and great New Caledonia areas. India is quiet, but I have 3 air groups upgrading to Franks. This will change soon.

China - daily bombing of Sian by 61 Helen and near Chungking by 121 Helen & 27 Lily, weather permitting. My troops at Kashgar hit by Liberator II and B-24s.

26th:
Carnarvon - P-47s escort in bombers, but base damage is down to 0-41-0.

Cold Bay - 16 Rex are able to bring down 4 of 42 B-24s. Another 35 B-24s come in dribs and drabs. Damage is 33-41-64.

1 NE of Exmouth - My re-supply TF is hit by B-25 attack bombers. All 4 xAKs are sunk, but the 3 PBs are untouched. lesson learned.

27th:
SS Ray gets TT hit on xAK 2 east of Toyohara.

Cold Bay - I have Tojo on LRCAP. 22 face 22 P-38s. Losses are 2:3. Over 48 B-24s sweep them aside. Damage is now 33-56-73.

Carnarvon - Just 21 bomber **** the base, so damage is almost repaired 0-8-0.

Air Losses: 10J:18A

28th:
