The main news is the Round 6 Deliberate Attack at Chungking. Forts dropped to 1, but the IJA just missed out on 1:1 adjusted odds so the IJA casualties, disruption and fatigue were about the same as Round 5. Chinese casualties were higher than last attack but still less than the IJA suffered. It will take about 10 days to recover again, but the next attack should get at least 1:1 odds now. AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Sep 21, 42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack near Pearl Harbor at 178,112 SS I-19 Allied Ships DM Sicard DM Ramsay PC Taney SS I-19 is sighted by escort -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack near Akyab at 54,45 DMS W-10 DMS W-12 Allied Ships SS Trusty – Dutch and British subs are sitting in the shallow water base hexes at Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Akyab. This DMS Div will probably just get itself sunk by a sub or from air attack, but they have CAP set overhead and will roll the dice for a few turns to see if they can sink HMS Trusty. SS Trusty is located by DMS W-10 Trusty bottoming out .... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Cairns , at 92,140 – encouraged by the result yesterday, a frontal attack on Cairns is ordered. A6M2s do well against the P39s, but I probably should stick to sweeping bases 1-2 hexes away from big allied airfields to keep the numbers advantage. The allied counter would be to reduce the range of their defensive CAP. A6M2 Zero x 25 A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed 14 x A6M2 Zero sweeping at 20000 feet * Allied aircraft P-39D Airacobra x 21 P-39D Airacobra: 5 destroyed CAP engaged: 8th FG/35th FS with P-39D Airacobra (3 airborne, 8 on standby, 10 scrambling) 11 plane(s) intercepting now. Group patrol altitude is 15000 , scrambling fighters between 15000 and 25000. Time for all group planes to reach interception is 13 minutes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Ndeni , at 120,143 A6M5 Zero x 24 A6M5 Zero: 8 destroyed – not good as I was hoping the aircraft quality would keep most of the sweepers safe, but they were mostly 50ish experience rookies that were lost. The 70+ experience pilots seemed to do well. Lesson learnt #462, don’t send <70 experience pilots on sweeps against big allied air bases. I was hoping for a coordinated ~50x Zero sweep but it didn’t come off. Allied aircraft P-40E Warhawk x 49 P-40E Warhawk: 6 destroyed CAP engaged: 15th FG/47th FS with P-40E Warhawk (0 airborne, 9 on standby, 12 scrambling) 9 plane(s) intercepting now. Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 164069 troops, 2285 guns, 2753 vehicles, Assault Value = 6133 Defending force 145594 troops, 627 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 4177 Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 1 Japanese adjusted assault: 3961 Allied adjusted defense: 4207 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 1), that’s 0.94 to 1. Next attack should be 1:1 which I am hoping will reduce the fatigue and disruption scores, as well as the casualty numbers. Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), preparation(-), experience(-), supply(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 21056 casualties reported – quite similar to Round 5, not many destroyed squads or devices, but about 4x Divisions worth of infantry disabled.
