Welcome back rusty.
The war is coming up to the one year anniversary so I�ll do a summary update with a few more pictures after the 1 Dec 42 reports arrive at IGHQ.
The Dude has been a great opponent. Regular turns, the allies are fighting hard and there�s often a bit of humour thrown into the emails.
With the world going a bit crazy the game has been a welcome distraction most evenings!

Contact report from AMC Kiyosumi Maru, in the far South Seas.

The patrol hex was changed from the one shown here to avoid getting too close to Pago Pago, on the assumption that there is a VMSB squadron or similar there.

Lots of land combat today, with Tsiaotso captured. Only 4 bases to go in China.
The AMC contact was an anti-climax. The crew did get +8 night experience though.
Multiple allied task forces are spotted moving towards the Solomons from near Ndeni.
RADM Yamaguchi has assumed command of all available carriers at Truk and will move towards Manus with orders to re-embark all carrier air groups then move towards Shortlands to try a long range strike.

Not as many as I�d like or need, but I�ll take it.
Not 100% on this but I think I read somewhere many moons ago that VP for Chinese squads are X/6, so about 6-700 points for this lot.
On that assumption there are a few thousand VP left in China, but I need about 8k for victory.

The plan from here is to try and get the points via delay ops in the Pacific while the India Expeditionary Army and Bengal Army go for the win by collecting points for destroyed LCUs.
This game could be called War in the Indo-Pacific, Field Marshal�s edition.

Maybe those DDs with decent ASW but poorer surface battle and AA capabilities can now go sub hunting with supporting air ASW. Especially if the have excellent crews and good skippers. But NO Gilligans!

Away from the game right now, but I think it�s mostly the Kagero class about to upgrade which I use as CA escorts.
I don�t think I�ll have enough DDs spare for ASW duty until the later war less capable classes arrive.
Those CA+Kagero task forces will then be ready for action back in SEAF in Jan 43.

There will be fireworks in the Solomons tomorrow.
Already sent the turn back so it�s too late to change anything.
I�ve just realised that the Vals are still set to range 6 so they might not have a target tomorrow...
If they survive until day 2 I will claim it as a deliberate tactic, but if they don�t I will sack RADM Yamaguchi.

This is the situation with IJN orders as dawn breaks on 3 Dec 42.
The turn just came back, so will know what happens in about 15 mins!

US carriers might be under clouds/thunderstorms by the looks of this image.
The next contact report is from a Nell strike which goes after targets at Lunga: heavy flak, but no CAP and 3x torpedo hits on USS West Virginia!

The next strike gets no hits on CAs Minneapolis and Vincennes, due to heavy flak, but does hit DD Craven.
Hopefully those CAs find themselves low on AA rounds for later strikes.

No hits from 9 torpedoes launched at HMAS Perth and USS Atlanta at Tulagi.

USS West Virginia then takes SIX more torpedoes and sinks. USS Juneau defends against the rest.
This was from a strike of 11x Nell, 27xBetty with 11x A6M2 escort. Shame this strike didn't find the USN carriers but that is another USN BB sunk.

No hits from 15 Nells in the next strike against DDs and USS Juneau again.

A couple of land based Nell/Zero strikes run into heavy CAP scoring no hits.
Reports of allied LRCAP joining the hex, so the allied task forces may not all be in the same hex.
Hopefully this is pulling allied CAP out of position for later strikes by the KB.

This was good to watch and avenges the loss of CV Akagi at Santa Cruz a few months back, but a counter strike is expected so the mood is still tense in the HQ SEAF ops room.
Any USN strike might not have an operating flight deck to return to!

The allied counter strike mainly goes after the CVEs and CVLs, so that suggests that the allies didn't have much or any detection on the fleet CVs.
CVE Unyo was reported sunk before the turn finished processing, with her A6M2s diverting to Kavieng.

This image also shows the butcher's bill in the air and the Int Staff's summary of sunk ships.
I don't believe reports of all CVs sunk, but need to process all available information before deciding how best to follow up on this battle.

One main question: where are Saratoga, Lexington and the allied CVEs?

Time for a cup of tea to let the heart rate come back down...

Most of the American planes would divert to airfields he owns in range. Therefore, you my not see a lot of ground or ops loses listed, given so many air bases he owns within range. I would look for the VPs added for sunken vessels as a guide to what may have gone down instead of ground and op loses in this case.
