Aircraft D4Y1 Judy advances R&D – to 1/43, so production starts tomorrow.
The 30x Val factory will change to 30x D4Y1 per month production even though that will cost another 30k for the factory repairs. That allows the 4x30 D4Y1 research to skip along to D4Y4 research with full engine bonus. The D4Y4 will advance 2.4 months per month with 26 months left until it arrives naturally, so it should start production in late July 43 with production of 120/month. KB should be fully equipped with D4Y4s by Sep 43.
In hindsight I’ve built a few too many Aichi engines (about 480 in the pool) so that factory is switched off. The D4Y1 will only use about half of those engines before the D4Y4 starts production, and the D4Y1-C is only building at 10/month. I’ll build the D4Y1 until the engines run out. The Aichi engine factory will change to the Mitsubishi Ha-43 when it starts production in about 11/43.

67th Sentai arrives at Kushiro – this Sonia unit isn’t due to withdraw until mid-1945, so 360 political points were spent to change it to another Nick FB unit. It will stay on Hokkaido to train up more IJAAF fighter pilots.
61st JNAF AF Unit arrives at Tokyo – will move to Rota in the Marianas and help build a supporting airfield for Guam/Tinian plus fortifications.

Here's the victory points worm on 1 Jan 43.
Still about 7k points short of auto-victory, so the war is set to continue a long way into 1943 yet.

China is nearly secure so only about 500 points left there.
Operations into India and SEAF have potential to score some more points by capturing allied ground forces.
That will be the focus for the IJA for about the next 6 months: try to clear Bengal and retake Port Moresby.
The Combined Fleet will take the opportunity to complete repairs and ugprades so it is as ready as possible to try and counter allied advances in the Pacific.

Rufes can definitely train strafe by setting to train sweeps at 100'

The game has skipped along at a turn a day this week, but this weekend will see a pause as the Dude has a better offer.
I’ll get one turn back tomorrow morning my time, then will have all weekend to enter the next round orders, so no complaints here.
I’ll take this as an opportunity to check a lot of things like industry, pilot training and come up with some future op plans.
If anyone wants me to post something in particular let me know.

203rd Sentai converting to Ki-43-IIa Oscar – in Burma
61st JNAF AF Unit - some devices have been upgraded at Tokyo – needs a few more squads then will move to the Marianas.
Previous report of sinking of BB Nevada incorrect. Intelligence reports ship is still in service – that’s a shame…
Device(s) upgraded in 10th JAAF Base Force supplied from Seishin – lots of radar upgrades. This tells the reader where all the JAAF Air Brigade or “Air Sector” HQs are located.
Device(s) upgraded in 13th JAAF Base Force supplied from Kanko
Device(s) upgraded in 1st JAAF Base Force supplied from Katha
Device(s) upgraded in 7th JAAF Base Force supplied from Magwe
Device(s) upgraded in 8th JAAF Base Force supplied from Myitkyina
Device(s) upgraded in 20th Division supplied from Rangoon – IJA infantry squad 43 upgrades. I will need to check the database to remind myself of the effect of this change. I think it is less men per squad but I can’t remember what the change in firepower ratings is.
Device(s) upgraded in 26th Air Defense AA Regiment supplied from Cox's Bazar
Device(s) upgraded in 6th Air Defense AA Regiment supplied from Manus
Device(s) upgraded in 17th JAAF Base Force supplied from Chungking
Device(s) upgraded in 11th RGC Ind. Brigade supplied from Hengyang – I need this TOE to upgrade so that this unit can meet the garrison requirement at Hengyang on its own. It won’t be long until that happens.
Device(s) upgraded in 18th JAAF Base Force supplied from Palembang
Device(s) upgraded in 12th Air Defense AA Regiment supplied from Samarinda
Device(s) upgraded in 4th JAAF Base Force supplied from Lautem
Device(s) upgraded in 12th JAAF Base Force supplied from Chumphon

1 Jan 43 Strategic Map showing IJA Division locations

Divisions to buy out of China / Manchukuo, in rough order:
- 40th Div was recently bought out and is at sea, moving south.
- 41st Div will be bought out next to move to SEAF. 40th and 41st Divs will join 16th, 21st and 52nd Divs at Buna to attack Port Moresby via the Kokoda Trail.
- 70th and 71st Divs will move to the Marianas. The Manchukuo garrison is at 9076/8000 so the only thing delaying deployment is the PP to buy out two more Divs. 110th Div has moved one Bde to Mutankiang, the others are still in garrison roles in China but will be replaced shortly so 110th Div can all move to Mutankiang. 116th Div will join it after Wenchow is captured to keep the Manchukuo garrison number above 8k.
- 1st Guards Div will most likely move to the Marianas and remain in reserve there. Guards Mixed Bde is still at Tokyo, with 128 days until this Div can form.
- 104th Div is moving from Canton to the Battle of Wenchow, but is planning for the defence of Luzon. After Wenchow is captured it will move to Shanghai and wait to be bought out.
- 61st Div will be able to form in 66 days. The plan is for all the 60s Divs to stay in China, so the 61st Div will form and then stay in reserve at Tokyo and only be bought out once it is needed.
- 20th Div is at Rangoon but hasn’t been bought out yet so can’t move anywhere by sea. It will stay in reserve there until needed, but might move south to Singapore once the 30s Divs arrive to replace it.
- 22nd Div will move overland to Singapore after Wenchow is captured and will remain in reserve there. It will be bought out if needed.
- 26th Div will move into reserve at Singapore. It is planning for the defence of Palembang.
- 27th Div is moving from China towards the south Burma coast.
- 23rd ,24th ,25th ,28th and 29th Divs will move towards Malaya when other units join the Manchukuo garrison to replace them, some time in 1944.

I think that's 15x Divisions in total on the list above, so at least 18 months worth of PP to buy all of them out.
PPs will also be spent on other things like changing unit commanders and unit HQ assignments to allow some to combine, so by the time I get through all of the above it will probably be 1945…

The 30s Divs from the Battle of Wenchow will move to defend Thailand, the south Burma coast and Indochina.

The allied heavy bombers flatten Katha airfield destroying lots of IJAAF planes on the ground.
I’d been half expecting this but left the decision too late to revert the fighter units to defensive posture...
The question now is where will they hit next?

RAF went after Chittagong but the defenders did well there.

It might be time to withdraw the IJAAF bomber force to somewhere relatively safe like Chiang Mai airfield, and let the fighters try to wear down the allied bombers for a while.

Wenchow was captured at the first attempt with a 2:1 result.
No allied bases left in China!

The combined allied bomber command in Bengal attacks again, switching target to Myitkyina, but the defending fighters were all on local CAP and do well.
Aircraft losses are about 2 allies : 1 Japan.
IJ pilots losses today total 6 WIA and only 4 KIA, so if the allies try something like this again tomorrow I’ll take it.

Success here will be achieved if the allies switch back to night bombing or pause to recover for a few days.

The Tojo, especially the 'C', is quite an effective fighter until it comes up against the later Allied models.

There're a number of IJ air units that will convert to something else. Of note is many of your FF air units. Once their usefulness is past they will serve better as normal LBA.

For the BB Hyuga, it might be quicker to use Pier Side to repair the system damage then put her into the shipyard, especially if you have lots of naval support and/or ARs there.

Cheers joe, was thinking about that but didn’t know for sure what would be quicker.
I’ll put into pierside to repair the minor damage first then into the yard for major, and take note of the days to confirm.
There’s a decent amount of naval support there but no ARs yet.
I’ve got 7x AR still converting at Kure.

Yep played with a few toggles.
I’ve read Alfred’s ship repair 101 a few times, but the last time was months ago...

My observations from the last few turns follow.
Priority wasn't really helping Hyuga as there were very few other ships under repair.
Now that there are 3x CA and more DDs in the same shipyard changing Hyuga from normal to critical saves 8 days.
Once placed in the shipyard, full repairs would now take 120 days at normal, 77 at high and 78 at critical. It was 79 a few days ago at normal, before more CAs and DDs arrived for upgrades.
All the CAs and DDs will be back in service by the time Hyuga needs to go into the shipyard, so might not make any difference to be set at high priority by then, but it will probably still need another 2 months to repair after all minor damage is fixed.

High priority is worth it compared to normal priority now that there are other ships in the yard, but it is also important to get other ships out of the same repair yard asap so the workers can focus their effort on one big ship. Eg: as soon as ships start upgrades I change them to pierside mode, but it may have been better to move those CAs and DDs somewhere else.

I just toggled the CAs and they will generally complete their repairs quicker in the shipyard rather than pierside.

I’m not that fussed with perfecting this as there are so many DDs upgrading that all but Kaga and Hyuga will be repaired before their DD escorts are ready anyway.

Major damage on CVs and BBs just takes a long time to repair. That’s not all bad, as they aren’t burning fuel while they’re in the shipyard.

Orders for KB for 13 Jan 43.

There should only be 2x USN CVs anywhere on the map, but the risk is that they are down here somewhere with CVL/CVE support.
The KB are moving forward into the dark here as there is no IJN search apart from a few submarines with short range Glens.
Fingers are crossed that the KB trips over some fully loaded tankers or troop convoys.
