The Kongos will move back to rejoin the CV and CVL task forces (in pairs) to resume their duty as bomb and torpedo magnets.
VADM Moizumi will then return with the 6x DDs to collect “his” BBs (Yamato and Musashi) once they have completed their 9/43 upgrade.

Is it worth resurrecting destroyed units or does it drain too much supply?

I’m thinking that the units destroyed in the Marshalls could help defend islands further back that are currently vacant.
They would return within 21-30 days to Tokyo, then would need at least a few months plus supply/manpower/armaments/vehicle points to fill out.
They would probably be ready to deploy at about the same time that the 54/55/56 Naval Guard units arrive.

Meaningful IJA reinforcements for the 4th Fleet area are still almost three months away.

The 40s units could return to support HQ 4th Fleet, most likely to reinforce the IJA in the Marianas.
The 60s units could return to support HQ 6th Fleet which could be given a new Area of Operations after the Marshalls are lost, perhaps the Bonins.

I would rebuild them and you can deploy them immediately. If they have engineers with them, those will help build the defences. Conversely, you could also send them to be garrison forces against the USSR and pull out better units for defense.

Thanks for the ideas Joe.

2/4th Fleet units will be sent to the Marianas to reinforce 14th Army there.

2/6th Fleet units will be resurrected and sent to a reserve defensive line somewhere.
My initial thought was the Volcanos, but other options that aren’t too far back could be Sumatra, Java, Banda Sea or Sakhalin.
Sumatra would let 2nd Fleet concentrate on Burma/Thailand/Malaya and reinforce 25th Army
Java or Banda Sea would let 3rd Fleet concentrate on the other and reinforce the 16th or 19th Army.
Timor could be handed over completely to 6th Fleet, but if the Allies go there it could have to be resurrected a third time!
Sakhalin would be as a back stop to 5th Fleet who are defending the Kuriles.

All of them might be needed but I just need to pick the one most likely to be invaded next.
While the Volcanos probably won’t be invaded before the Marianas, I assess it is getting dangerous not to start boosting the garrisons there now.

I’m thinking it’s too early to send resurrected units somewhere further back like the Philippines, Okinawa or Korea.

Afternoon Air attack on Wotje Naval Fortress, at 135,115 (Wotje)
Weather in hex: Severe storms
Allied aircraft – the IJNAF units that remain in the Marshalls need some more supply, but they could then support more Georges to shred raids like this. As it appears that the Allies have all returned to Pearl Harbour to replenish, KB and Fast Transport task forces carrying supply will move in during what looks like a lull in the action. Commander 6th Fleet is still optimistic of imposing further casualties and delay on the Allies before the Marshalls have to be abandoned completely.

An opportunity to get some points back in the Marshalls by sweeping George vs Wildcat while the USN Pacific Fleet seems to have moved back to Pearl Harbour.
The sweeps did very well.
A well escorted Betty/George raid then did no damage.
The Allies are trying to support the capture of Wotje by flying ground attack from Roi-Namur.

The numbers in the left hand columns don’t sum to 38 Allied losses, so I take it that the real number was 38 and the left hand column has been inflated by over-claiming George and Frank/Tojo pilots.
Still, a good day for the combined IJ Air Forces.

You are welcome.

But as far as resurrecting units over and over again, just call them the "Immortal" units like the Persians did.

Japanese Ships – ASW Div on patrol in the Shortlands hex. I think these two boats are all that is left of the W-1# Squadron.

E W-19 – meanwhile the W-19 class have 12cm/45 10YT dual purpose guns with a max range of 17,000*. The gunners on W-19 used about half of their ammunition which was enough to put the aim of the Helldiver pilots off.

KB orders for tomorrow:
All A6M8 on CAP range 0 to defend against the 67 bombers at Roi-Namur (Liberators and Helldivers)
Most A6M5c also on CAP range 0
All Jills set to naval attack with airfield attack secondary, no target so they may hit both Roi-Namur and Kwajalein like they did today
All D4Y4 set to naval attack only
All D4Y1 set to naval attack with ground attack on Wotje secondary from 16k’ so that they level bomb and hopefully stay above most of the flak.

Bettys will also hit the Allied ground forces at Wotje again to try and keep their disruption up.
A George Hikotai will also fly LRCAP from Maloelap to try and bring down some Allied bombers if they try to hit the defenders again.

Another big score in the air in India with the Allies going for the IJA stack at Jessore.
The first Jessore attack gets 1:1 and drops forts to 5, but most of the independent Tank Regts take heavy disablements.
32nd US and 5th Indian Divs are the main defenders and they were barely scratched.
Pressing the attacks on Jessore probably isn’t worth it, but 7 more Infantry Divs are concentrating there so that decision will be made in a few days time.

KB evades all subs in the Marshalls and a large Jill strike hits Roi-Namur airfield again.
The close air support Judys fail to fly against the Wotje beachhead.

A probing attack by IJA 41st Div at Port Moresby achieves very little.

Only a 1:1 result, but the reinforcements will arrive within days.
3rd Tank Regt and lots of vehicles destroyed, it was mostly the Tank Regts that took the casualties.
It turns out it would have been better to let the attacking force dig field fortifications for a few days like I usually do.
Oh well, lucky there are plenty of vehicle points in the pool!
Supply isn’t exactly plentiful in these parts though.

If the Allies reinforce here it could be dangerous…
The losses they just suffered in the air might make them withdraw to Calcutta.
They don’t know it, but an Allied reinforcement here would end the IJA offensive in India.

This is the status of opposing forces at Port Moresby.
It would be good to push the attackers back into the sea but the terrain is helping them.

CL Sendai was only lightly damaged. Lucky ship, I thought she was a goner.
This task force just dropped 2400 supply at Ailinglaplap via fast transport and made it back to relative safety only 2 hexes from Nauru.
It will now head NW to Truk to reload then move back to attempt to increase supply at another forward base like Maloelap, Mili or Makin.
Fast transport missions is about all the IJN CLs and the old DDs like the Mutusukis are good for now.

CAPT Kogure is given temporary command of Battleship Division 3 as it reforms at sea, detaching from the CV and CVL task forces.
His mission is to bombard the Allied airfields at Roi-Namur to try and destroy some of the 60ish bombers and patrol aircraft spotted there.

After the bombardment he is ordered to Truk via a path that takes him North directly towards Marcus Island, to try and avoid the Allied sub screen (green blob) and any other unspotted subs that move towards Bikini Atoll.
The CV and CVL task forces will loiter three hexes NE of Eniwetok flying local CAP and ASW patrols to try and keep all three of these task forces safe.
This force will be ordered to retire to Truk to replenish tomorrow, then wait for the USN to come back towards the Marshalls.
They might not have to wait long.

When the USN come back I expect that they will be in the customary very large ~25 ship combat task forces again.

RN Cruisers spotted 11 hexes out.
The IJN have nothing in the Bay of Bengal that can stop them other than land based air.
There are 36 torpedo equipped Bettys at Chittagong but from previous experience they will struggle to hit the Cruisers while they have AA ammunition.
To help add some volume to the naval attack tomorrow the IJAAF will send some Helens in at 6k’ and some Nicks in at 100’.
The IJAAF units have had their 70+ experience pilots replaced with 50s experience pilots to avoid wasting decent pilots if it turns into a massacre.

Jakes make contact at night!
But if the RN Cruisers move under the large CAP at Calcutta for sunrise this turn won’t end well for the aircraft set to daylight naval attacks…

I paused the replay to take an early screen shot which caused the hit animations to stop working, but early torpedo hits lead to more torpedo hits!
HMS Ramillies dodged a few torpedoes and it looked like Hawkins would do the same until it took some late hits.
Hawkins appears on the sunk ships list but that is doubtful after only two hits. Possible, but not likely.
Some Bettys launched torpedoes at DDs and DEs. If those pilots could be identified they'd face disciplinary action…

The escorting Oscars paid a high price but they got the Bettys through the CAP.
66th Sentai lost 5 KIA, 2 WIA and 6 MIA. Morale drops to 36 so they need some R&R at Rangoon.
The Bettys were shot down on the way out, but by then the damage was done and HMS Resolution was already sunk.

The later IJA strikes were shredded but the victory points gained were 185 for Resolution and a possible 40 for Hawkins for the price of 61 total aircraft lost today. Close to a 4:1 trade with the aircraft pools able to take the losses and the IJAAF pilots were rookies, so easy to replace.

They Betty unit lost 3 KIA, 1 WIA and 4 MIA. The Betty pilots were a mix of 70s, 60s and 50s experience with unknown split of whether experienced or rookie pilots were lost. Morale has plummeted to 34 but they should be celebrating this victory.
The Bettys will be withdrawn to Rangoon and given time to recover morale and replace losses.

Air strikes will be stood down for tomorrow on the assumption that this task force will withdraw under cover of Calcutta CAP.
If the task force does continue on to bombard Chittagong it will do so with half the firepower in BBs and CAs than it had today.

All merchants unloading supply at Chittagong escaped to the south, some spotted here just south of Akyab heading back towards Rangoon.

At the end of the turn there are still 10 ships spotted in the main task force, with 2 split off.
That suggests that HMS Hawkins is still afloat, with many more ships in the main task force than were spotted today. Last time 10 Allied ships were spotted it turned out to be closer to 20. Probably all R class BBs and all RN CAs with a few escorts are in this task force.
The 4x available IJN subs just to the West on the Indian coast towards Madras will move into this area to try and get a lucky shot away.

Allied fighters spotted nearby include 47 at Diamond Harbour, 91 at Calcutta and 17 at Howrah.
Based on what flew CAP over the ships today they are mostly Hurricanes and Warhawks.
The IJAAF haven’t tried a large sweep of the Calcutta area yet, but an “all callsigns” Frank/Tojo sweep of Jessore tomorrow against Hurricanes/Warhawks could be a decent point scorer.
With all the action at sea it is assessed as unlikely that the combined Allied Air Forces will try a ground attack mission tomorrow, so changing the IJAAF LRCAP to Sweep orders for a day might be worth the risk of losing a few fighter pilots.

There are 285 Tojo/Frank at Dacca and 115 Tojo/Frank at Rangpur. 30% are set to rest so up to 280 should sweep, all at 20k’.
The Allies will probably move more fighters to Calcutta and set some to LRCAP over the ships, so this large sweep is based on the assumption that it will outnumber whatever Allied aircraft remain on area CAP and react to meet the sweep over Jessore.
The 2x Allied AA Regts at Jessore are assumed to have radars, so the defending CAP will get an initial advantage but should be overwhelmed by numbers.

The surviving aircraft from Chittagong were moved to Tezpur to avoid the potential BB/CA bombardment, with a grand total of 8 Oscars still serviceable in 66th Sentai.

Yet another example to not put sea power against alerted LBA. Well unless you have the 'Big Blue Blanket'.

With the numbers you show and the opposition, may I respectfully suggest you go for the jugular. Sweep Calcutta...banzai
