Burma Area Army offensive operations plan
Reinforcements are moving north following the capture of Singapore, including the HQ and a large proportion of 3rd Air Division. Air groups plus supporting IJA Base Forces and AF Bns.
Chiang Mai and Uttaradit are the main air bases in NW Thailand.
Hanoi airfield (currently AF1) will be developed to AF2 or AF3 so it can support offensive operations into Yunnan from Paoshan to Kunming.
Recon of the upper Burma Road (orange arrows) will start shortly as more recon groups move forward from Singapore.
If any bases are vacant or lightly defended they will be considered for para drops by 1st and 2nd Raiding Regts.
4th Ind. Mixed Regt is available (currently moving to Hanoi) as a followup force to the paras.

HQ 15th Army is currently one hex SE of Moulmein with 55 Div (-). From previous recon and aerial bombardment, the allied Burma Div is at Moulmein with about a Div equivalent at each of Rangoon and Pegu. 17th Indian Div is at Pegu.
Oscars have achieved air superiority over Rangoon and Toungoo with allied fighters refusing to fight.
Aerial bombardments have just been ordered on the allied ground defenders in the clear at Pegu to identify who they are. Pegu is the target for a 33rd and 56th Divs amphibious assault as soon as possible.
Singapore harbour has been cleared of mines and the assault force is assembling there now, with a number of BB, CA and CL covering task forces.
KB is about to conduct a sweep into CENPAC so I need to provide air cover of the assault task forces from land bases.
124th Regt (detached from 31st Div) is moving to cut the road withdrawal route of the Moulmein defenders.
4th Thai Div/B is moving into the Jungle to surround Moulmein.

Reinforcements from Japan
54th Div will be bought out from Japan within the next week and will move to Singapore to reorganise as a followup assault force.
53rd Div will be bought out as the next priority for Political Points, but that won’t be until late Feb or possibly early Mar 42.
52nd Div will be bought out after that, but probably won’t be available until Apr 42.

Royal Thai Army
RTA Cavalry Div will push forward along the Chiang Mai to Taung Gyi road to recon that axis.
RTA 4th Div is split into thirds. 4A is the Pisanuloke garrison. 4B will surround Moulmein. 4C will cover 124th Regt’s flank.

If I 'm reading this and looking at the map correctly, you plan is to throw 6 IDs plus some odd extra Thai and smaller forces into Burma?

With that much force, why not throw them into Chittagong?

3 of the 6 IJA Divs on that sketch aren't immediately available, so I feel that a move on Chittagong now would stretch my forces too thin. I'll sleep on it, but I don't have much excess supply and I just spotted some little yellow movement ticks near Lashio, so an as yet unknown number of Chinese troops have moved into Burma.

I need to save PP for 9 more days before I can buy out the 54th Div, then add travel time, so it will be mid-late Feb before it gets to Burma.
I will then need at least +35 days (mid March) to buy out the 53rd and about another +32 days (late April) to buy out the 52nd. If those reinforcement Divs aren't needed in Burma by then I will find something else for them to do.

In other news, KB has helped to cover the relocation of Claude and Pete groups out of the 4th Fleet area back to Truk so that they can be upgraded and resize.

2. invasion of Java from the Java Sea.

The Pegu/Burma invasion force is 8 hexes out so may arrive at the target next turn, but probably won't start unloading.
It feels good to get a win at Sinyang, things might start to get moving in China now.

Japanese ground losses:
1507 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 160 disabled – 65 of the disablements are to the 1st IMB, the rest are shared around various units so everything is still in good shape. I left the detached Regts out of the fight so they are still 100% effective. I think that’s the trick in China, use A and B grade Divisions with Tank support. Fatigue is <20 for all untis and disruption is < 10 for all units so they will attack again to rout the remainders then pursue with gusto.
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 18 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 21 disabled
Guns lost 18 (1 destroyed, 17 disabled)
Allied ground losses:
9657 casualties reported
Squads: 230 destroyed, 506 disabled
Non Combat: 188 destroyed, 97 disabled
Engineers: 8 destroyed, 11 disabled
Guns lost 63 (6 destroyed, 57 disabled)
Units retreated 4. 3 units are left in hex, and 10 are spotted one hex to the NW. I hadn’t seen movement out of Sinyang but 6 units must have left just before the attack. The race to Nanyang is on!
Defeated Allied Units Retreating!
Assaulting units: Plan A is for all combat units will pursue to capture Nanyang, before 12th Army switches to a defensive role and 20th Army is released to move south. Plan B is to test the defences on the Nanyang-Sian road, but that would delay the massed Tank Regts from moving south.

Here is a summary of my aircraft and engine production/research as at 27 Jan 42.
The supply use for setting all of this up has stabilised and supply is starting to increase at Tokyo again.
I have a spreadsheet that I will check and adjust if required on the first of each game month, but this is tracking to plan for now.

One thing I have just noticed from this is that next time I might build out the B5N1 Kates to use up the start pool of the Nakajima Hikari engines.
Maybe I considered doing this, and chose not to because the B5N1 doesn't upgrade automatically to the B5N2 so it would cost more supply to repair the factories again...

In Burma, I’m now seriously considering leaving any allied troops in central and north Burma to either starve or waste time doing nothing before marching slowly back to Burma or China.
The plan is to capture Rangoon next then I will try to take the other bases on the Burma coast towards Chittagong. That may be where 18th UK Div was sent so I need to keep recon planes moving forward.
I just spotted 2xCM moving west from Ramree Island so I also need to bring up some DMS or AMc.

I regularly do this to use up the 'free' engines. Both are essentially the same plane. Using the N1 builds and what's in the pools gets me to the Jill, so no need to build any more N2's.

44/45/46 Indian Bdes and the beaten up 17th Indian Div are at Rangoon. Deliberate attack dropped forts to 2 but AV is about 1:2. It will be a bit of a grind.

The CA task forces in SWAF cleared the cobwebs out of their 8" turrets.

Cebu is captured which has cleared the Philippine Islands. One base left on Mindanao.
KB has just arrived so it’s time for the 5-6 x SNLFs to capture a few allied air bases in SE Borneo and the Celebes in prep for Java landings.

Merak auto flipped so the Java invasion has already started!

The Chinese were routed NW if Sinyang with Nanyang in the clear hex next in line.

A few things.

The Ki-95 is not worth it. Your investment in the Ki-83 should be MUCH higher, and it's a LOT better than the Ki-95.

You don't have many Frances being researched. You'll want to make a lot of those.

You have a lot of Jills. The Grace is really your go-to late game TB and DB. There are some units that only use a TB, so you'll need some Jills, just not that many.

WAY too many Jakes going on here. Not sure what the plan is, but 30-40 a month is more than enough.

You'll need a lot of Ha-43 engines, so might gradually begin ramping those up from the 90 you have now.

Unless I missed it, I didn't spot the J7W1. A very good CAP plane. You need some.

Here is a post from early builds in Elephant Vanishes.

Cheers Obvert. I’ll check it all out.
Not all research factories will produce what they’re researching, like the Jill.
And the plan is to win the war before the late war fighters are needed, but if I don’t they will come into play.

The method to the Jake madness is that I need 1000+ Jakes in my planned 50x 24 land based float plane groups.
40-50 per month would never fill them all out factoring in ops losses and the odd one lost to CAP.
Even producing 180/month will take at least 6 months to upgrade all FP groups to Jakes.

No need for so many Jakes. Why?

They're a great plane, but you just don't need that many groups or planes.

Japan is about balancing need with economics, and this is an unneeded emphasis that is taking a huge opportunity cost from your economic output in production and supply to fill and fly those groups.

ASW duty over the convoy routes supported by converted AV ships.
Japan needs oil and fuel to make it home above nearly everything else, and the most persistent and effective threat to the TK convoys is allied subs.
We'll see if it works or not, but countering allied subs is the reason.

And I do have 1x30 J7W1 research factory, but it's still 0(30) so isn't showing on the info screen that I cut and paste from.

With Rangoon captured the Burma coast is almost completely under IJA control.
It will be interesting to see if the remaining allies stay and fight in central/upper Burma or if they start moving overland to India.
I think at least the Chinese that I spotted moving into Burma will try to delay.
I will probably just leave them for a bit and find another coastline to invade.
To help with that, 54th Div was bought out a few days ago and is moving in fast ships and Strat mode to Singapore.
It will then reorg onto an amphibious TF for Cox’s Bazaar, or if I don’t see it reinforced, maybe Chittagong.

Ground combat at 87,41 (near Tsiaotso)
Japanese Bombardment attack – I’ve just spotted Chinese movement into this hex from Tsiaotso. If that is a complete evacuation of Tsiaotso then I’m happy with that as it can produce supply, but 41st Division will potentially be heavily outnumbered in terms of raw AV. One to watch and see what happens.

jdsrae nice job getting Rangoon Port Blair very early feb 42.

It might be too late but were you going to try to get NAK-35 pool up past 500 so you get the research bonus?

I always try to get them over 500 by the time the first Rufe factory completely repairs.

If it's ASW then you should be using the IJAAF 2Es instead of overspending on your FPs. They are a much better platform, with better range and payload.

To start just put a bunch of groups on 50 ASW, 30 train and 20 rest.

You do not need all of these Jakes. ;)

Some Jakes are great for ASW, but they tend to only damage subs while Kates and Sallys and Helens get kills. I've basically shut down the entire sub warfare of the Allies using mostly the IJAAF 2Es.

EDIT:

The G3M3 Nell is actually also a fantastic ASW platform for several reasons. Nothing can beat its range, firstly, but it has a decent bomb load and I thin gets the MAD device (as does the Kate).

In the middle war when subs are beginning to be more prevalent it's the range that helps as you can detect and hit them before they even get close to your convoy routes. Jakes are fine, and definitely use them both in small airfields/dot bases and on AVs moving with convoys, but your 2E LBA is going to be the best option.

To help with that, 54th Div was bought out a few days ago and is moving in fast ships and Strat mode to Singapore.
It will then reorg onto an amphibious TF for Cox’s Bazaar, or if I don’t see it reinforced, maybe Chittagong.

Doing an amphibious landing from Singers to either target is a long haul and will leave your unit(s) in poor shape for such an adventure. I'd suggest a brief stay in Rangoon to recover whatever it is that they lose on long journeys (IIRC its disruption).

The short answer is no, I'm not planning to get the Nak35 pool > 500 in the short term.
I am increasing production of the Nak35 but with the current plan the pool won't build quickly enough unless I dial back Zero and/or Oscar production - which is a possibility if CS keeps avoiding air-air combat. I will also expand Nick production once they arrive to fill out the light bomber groups that I want to convert to FB.

This graph shows the engine pool estimate for each engine.

To come up with this I've estimated:
1. engine demand from aircraft production, which changes over time as the aircraft I want to build changes
2. increasing engine production as the expanded factories repair
3. if an engine pool gets above 500, engine used by those aircraft researching at that time

Where the graph flatlines at 500 is when engines are being used to help boost aircraft research.

I could expand more Nak35 now and turn the factories off earlier in 1945.
The main reason I see for that is to try and get the A6M5c earlier with its armour to try and help protect KB fighter pilots. I'd need something like 150 engines/month more than I am planning to build now. I'll crunch some more numbers in the spreadsheet but I might give it a go.

It is a dangerous strategy to pursue Ha-35 production for the bonus. The reason is that the Ha-35 engine production requirements peak in '42 for most players and then falls off precipitously. Thus you are expending supply for something that will not contribute to the mid or late war effort. building up ha-45 or ha-42 or even ha-43 (depending upon your late model choices) can be a very effective strategy though as these engine models can be in GREAT demand in the late war.

EX: Ha-45 used in Frank. Many players will boost production of this a/c in PDU ON to well over 500 by '45. Thus early production expansion to get you that 500 pool bonus can make a lot of sense as it is hard to have too many ha-45.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating! They move NW towards Sian where one Chinese unit is already waiting in the WR terrain, I assume a decent sized Corps. I am going to pursue as the combined 12th/20th Armies with the combined Tank Regts in support are a good chance of clearing one more hex closer to Sian quite quickly. If I run into a big stack then I won’t push my luck, but I will now see how close I can get to Sian on the good road. This move might make C.S. withdraw from other areas to the NE to try and reinforce Sian which could open up other opportunities.

IIRC this engine is a non-starter, as its a one A/C engine, and one I don't intend to produce.

quote:

Ha-45 used in Frank. Many players will boost production of this a/c in PDU ON to well over 500 by '45. Thus early production expansion to get you that 500 pool bonus can make a lot of sense as it is hard to have too many ha-45.

Ain't that the truth. My Ha-45 production is approaching 600/month in Jul-43. Lots being used for the engine bonus.
