China

All the action up North. The usual encirclement tactic anchored on Sian is underway to try and trap as many Chinese units as possible. Failing that, as long they are mauled and forced into the bush and off the main roads, it will be a win as we set up the stage 2 blow for March.

Absolutely, I am the good guys! History aside, the Japanese make better beer

So I was just stocking up on my favourite hops and barley water when i noticed this Japanese whisky:

Tempted to buy one to help celebrate my next big victory, but at $90 a bottle I might wait and see if Santa drops one off

I'm not a huge whiskey fan but I agree it needs to be investigated

Masses of shipping and men (70K+) pouring through now towards Java and then out into the open seas.

India the likely target or is it????? I really intend to bring the pain to Lowpe on this one. He is more than a good enough player to withstand it

Still it is going to be fun watching him sweat a little.

China going well. Smashed up a decent Army grouping last turn that I caught in clear terrain.

Not sure what those guys were thinking in loitering there but they paid the price.

Whilst it is to be expected in Dec 41, I am still enjoying the scoreboard as the Empire runs amok in the first 30 days.

It has been a fairly violent start and may have rattled him a bit or not, as the highly experienced and skilled player that he is.

The next month the hammer really comes down.

Starting KB in its entirety in the DEI has made a big impact.

Other points to note

- Logistics a big issue or is it? All the surface combatants and even KB are running low on torps, shells, fuel etc but just like the land forces as well, the Empire will take the calculated risk and push on. There will be no operational pause, no consolidation just pushing on in the typical Asian war fighting fashion. What we need we will capture.

- US CVs- took me a while to figure out what was going on there with the US CVs around the PIs. I thought for a nanosecond he was coming for my Amphib Taskforces which terrified me, however he is just trying to protect the fleeing ships.

Regardless, the net is closing in on them (just need him to sit still for another day or so).

Will post a map after next turn.

Probably not the best habit forming practice of fighting the IJA in clear terrain.

Run and hide

What you can do is have at least one AKE in a port along with tankers/AOs with fuel, then have set a way point to that port and set it to a "full refuel" so it will get both fuel and ammo. If the port is large enough and/or with enough Naval support, you may not need the AKE. Also put in ADs since they can and will reload the ammo for the smaller weapons and torpedoes, even on the larger ships if needed.

I am reading both sides and I will make comments like this but not about what moves to make.

Empire starts only with one AKE. Torpedo and BB re-arm capability at the start is non existent. HI, Truk, Shanghai, Port Arthur and that's pretty much it. The single AKE is probably the most precious ship in the first month

They can reload at a major port in Indochina with the Naval Support there. Relocate the Naval Support forward to the larger ports.

In DBB scn Japan have far less support squads in HQs. Combining HQs from Samah and CRB should be enough for re-arming the 45cm aerial torpedoes but good luck in mustering enough for the 36cm shells.

Thanks guys, yep absolutely some good points there and the key thing for me is to seize some half decent ports so the surface fleets can replenish.

Regardless- we push on!

-Sending down some ADs and ASs as well to help out.

An unsatisfying turn 21st Dec.

Plenty of missed opportunities this day and I lost the training CL and a AK carrying troops to a sub.

Hardly any Betties decided to fly though at least one tanker got nailed near the PI.

Lowpe is playing highly unorthodox, a mix of aggression, partial genius but a healthy dollop of incredibly risky play. I have a stack of a/c based in Saipan tracking his CVs and getting ready to strike and this turn he bombarded Saipan!

I based them at Saipan due to supplies and of course the CD guns and forts.

Did he forget the guns were there or did he take another extreme risk? Anyway 1 x CA and 2 x DDs are in a bad way and should be easy prey in the next day or two though I have been wrong before (eg Houston).

Lowpe's aggression makes the Empire uncomfortable at times but at the same time if the IJN holds its nerve there will be wonderful opportunities, especially against his CVs.

Exciting stuff- bravo to Lowpe for engaging and not running away but I fear the Allies are sailing very close to the edge here.

And whilst we wait in anticipation on the next turn from Lowpe, those that live down under know all the signs of Spring arriving have come, most of which we love:

1. Footy finals.
2. Horse racing (Spring Carnival)
3. Magpies Swooping and
4. Snakes are on the move.

Compiling valuable foraging information for future occupying forces I see. There is enough meat on that monster to feed a battalion for a week

I saw a picture of an 11 foot python that ate a 6 foot alligator. The snake swallowed it, then the alligator tried to crawl out.

Nature is weird and wonderful but as I get older I am happy to keep it at arms length.

The python gave me quite a fright on my jog.

Just waiting on the next turn from Lowpe- it should be a pretty special one depending where he sends his CVs

3. Magpies Swooping

Apparently if you feed them they don't swoop, so I let these two join me for lunch the other day!

What a fantastic picture! I love my magpies.

Hopefully they beat the Cats this Saturday at the Gabba!

Messy turn this one.

The IJN charged in and fought a series of inconclusive engagements with the USN.

Bounced a 20cm shell of Lexington's flight deck but it didn't penetrate

Worst losses of the war thus far sustained on the day (1 x CA and 1 x DD) Allies lost a mixture of a few DDs and some tankers but nothing too important.

Ships are scattered everywhere. The carnage is likely to ramp right up as I want his CVs and he is a long way from home.

Dutch subs are also taking their toll but nothing I can do about that.

The task forces have now cleared all the major choke points for minimum loss and are now heading to their assembly areas to marry up with surface task forces.

In the next day or two they will commence accelerating to their objectives.

Losses have been very light. A few ships to Dutch subs.

Decent progress in China. A few Chinese have been cut off but the bulk have escaped up into good defensive terrain.

Will take Sian and then re-assess.

Scoreboard- looking pretty good at this early juncture.

Losses thus far have been very light- been lucky on a couple of turns with his surface groups just missing the amphib taskforces.

It took about 4 turns manoeuvring to set this up.

Just wanted to cripple the flight decks and then the air based out of Saipan and mini KB lite would take care of the rest. Got a few 20cm hits on Lex but nothing penetrated!

Lost a good CA and a DD in this engagement.

Allies are very bold but they are really playing with fire around Saipan.
