Why do we not play these paper and counter wargames more often?

What mean you by "we?"

Every Friday evening more or less for the last 5 years.

Pacific War (VG) was one that we never had the patience to try to learn, although the detailed action made it seem as though it might be worth it. We played A3R (AH), Totaler Krieg (Decision, it's quite good), Pacific Battles Vol 1: "Rising Sun" (Decision, it sucks), AWAW (GMT, like A3R on steroids), Flat Top (AH), Bismarck (AH), WW2PTO (SPI/TSR, pretty good game), and Korea (VG). Also, ASL about 1 Saturday per month.

You're very lucky. Wargamers here are few and far between. And most everyone is married with children, so we're lucky to have at least one day a month available....

I think the one thing we can all agree on is...

"Mdiehl, you suck."

Fie and Foul on you for being a part of wargaming club.

My brother (Knavey) and I -would- play, but we still live 45 minutes from each other, and Saturdays are a sacred commodity; I can't remember the last time we've actually gotten to play (talk about it a lot tho).

Great game I remember we were able to finish some scenarios but never never the campaign. You guys remember Civil War (Victory Games)? IMHO was theonly massive-scope boardgame easily playable

There was a massive wargame put out in the 70s called "war in the Pacific, by SPI. It had 7 map sheets. It was huge. Some people still play it today. I have played Pacific War alot. Once i knew that game inside and out. But have not played it in about 4 years. Great Game. I have 3 copies now, two unpunched.

I've been reading this (waiting for you know what) and trying to remember the boardgame I used to play alot. Suddenly I remember....Flattop. Anyone remember this one? I haven't played it since about 1980, but remember it was pretty good.

Good LORD! I used to play the devil outta Flattop. Course I ALSO used to get my rear handed to me on a plate by a friend playing the Japanese... Great game though! Sorta the UV counterpart or companion to Pacific War by VG.

Flattop was the first wargame I bought. Five years later I had about two hundred. Then I bought my first computer wargame. Now I have about five hundred of those............it's a bit like meeting your first girlfriend - it starts something which ends in marriage, house, kids etc. That game has a lot to answer for.

Really? It still intact (i.e. all counters, etc?). Assuming you were willing to part with it we might have to talk. If not, and it's still in good shape I recommend hanging onto it. I'm not letting my copy of VG's Pacific war go anytime soon. Buggers worth money in the shape I have it in currently.

I still have Flat Top in the basement too - a really good game. And how I laugh when I see the game rates as 10/10 for difficulty - this from the company that brought you 3R and ASL!
