Well, I think I waited long enough. I posted a poll over at the WiF discussion group back on May 15...its been 10 days now and have gotten 31 responses. The poll is a bit limiting since it is not possible to answer with percentages, only one answer allowed. The WiF discussion list is made up mostly of long-time WiF'ers and basically Grognards who also play many other wargames. The results with 31 responses: NetPlay=13 votes(42%) PBEM=5 votes(16%) HotSeat=0 votes(0%) AI=10 votes(32%) Solitaire=3 votes(10%)

Matrix WiF(computer WiF): If you have an interest in buying MWiF(computer WiF), which mode of play interests you most: NetPlay is vs human opponent over internet. PBEM is Play By E-Mail Hot Seat is vs face to face human opponent on same computer. AI only against MWiF program. Solitaire vs yourself.

ORIGINAL: ETF PBEM - Man it would take months to play a game :)
Months ? It already takes months to play the face to face game. PBEM will need years.
Not necessarily. It would be quite possilbe to send several emails a day for simple stuff. With a little dedication, the two players could complete one or two turns a week - which is about the same as for over-the-board, if I am not mistaken.

Sorry, I was joking, I have no idea of how long PBEM games can take. I only know about our home games, that have a duration of about 150 hours for playing the 36 turns game, with an average total of 250 impulses played.

This means 100% AI Opponent ?
Playing the computer opponent at my pace and my convenience is my initial preference. I don't have any experience with this game nor time to commit to long campaigns with human opponents. At some point later once I'm comfortable with the game and my schedule becomes less hectic, I'll consider pbem. I'm in the same boat with EiA, and still waiting for that game to get up to speed before I claim any sort of quality experience there. I have played other games via pbem so I'm not opposed to that or anything; my preference for now is the AI.

solitaire : 0% AI : 0 % (if the AI is not challenging at all I won't play against it, but if it's a good one I can raise to 20%) PBEM : 80 % (the easiest way to play the game when you want to, but at the price of a slow pace) netplay : 20 % (would like more but I can't figure how I could negociate with my wife and son to stand whole afternoon and evenings in front of the PC) face to face : 0%

Sorry. Perfection is an elusive goal - one I struggle with everyday. The more pressure I feel and/or the deeper I am into complex problems, the more my social skills atrophy. But that has been true for me since 1st grade.

I'm impressed by the effort and skill that you have put into porting WiF to the computer. I'm impressed and overwhelmed by the scope of this game and the skill of the players here. I'm intrigued and definitely interested in it and definitely want to give it a go. But; I feel I don't have the time to learn it properly or time to play someone else. That's why I'm interested in AI and Solitaire play.
I think it was a suggestion by the "Mad Russian" in another thread who suggested that the best way to learn this game was play as the Allies as they historically had to "learn" how to fight the Germans.
By the way I've never played WiF. I learned of the existence of the game a year or so ago. I played AH 3rd Reich years ago and have played the computer version of it. At the moment I'm involved in several CEaW PBEM games.
