Interview today..

Me - "How much do you think you're worth to this company, and what you could bring to it if we bring you on?"

Trader - "I would be able to bring a sizable portion of my current deck I believe. Of the 6 to $700,000 deck, I could see myself bringing $500,000 of that by a couple of years. I think I am worth about 3 to $400,000 of that"

Me - "We're not the New York Yankees son....think more of the KC Royals"

Trader - "I would like to make more than 5 figures a year, sir"

Me - "The majority of their players would too...

Trader - "...."

Dude, mentioning the KC Royals is hardly good for incoming employee morale. I'm surprised the young gun didn't break down crying when you compared his future at your company to them.

At least you didn't compare yourself to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Not only am I a regular nerd, but apparently I'm also a network geek. Someone on Reddit posted this picture with the explanation that it was the IP address they found "the world's most dangerous hacker" at in the show NCIS.

I got the joke.

I'm enough of a geek to get the joke as well.

Well, I've played Settlers of Catan a few times, so I have experience in trading sheep for wheat. Do I get the job?

I was going to make an observation about your behavior around sheep with your 'deck', but thought better of it.

Mice and sheep? I dont get it.

I thought that was generally a NZ joke.

Alright, I'll try again. Does it have to do with the fact that this IP address is the default for wireless routers and other wireless IP addresses pre-configuration?

Not necessarily. IPs beginning with 10. 172. and 192. are private addresses which indicate that the address is behind a firewall and can only be reached from within that network. In the case of your home router, the router creates a virtual internal network and all devices connected to the router within your home are assigned a 192 (usually) address via DHCP.

Edit: I think you had it right, I missed the "default" part in your post. Need more coffee.

Settlers is a great game.

In order to trade, you're going to need to build more roads...thus start trading wood and bricks

Ya know, I do sometimes sail down that way. Might bring Beaudy the Wonder Dog along on a SoPac road-trip. He's good on the foredeck, and pees and poops very nicely in the cockpit. Really good dog; really good sailor.

Skynet?

OK... I see that i have to educate some of our thread brothers here...

The address depicted on the screen is not true Internet address - the address is private one and belonging to local network!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/192.168

BTW, whilst true Internet IP address can be only one in the whole world the private IP addresses can run into billions (i.e. everyone can have 192.168. )...
