- Musashi arrive on 1 December 1942. So 359 days of production
- Each day require 233 naval points
- Every naval point cost 3 HI points

So 359x233x3=250941 HI points to produce Musashi

Each Single engine planes cost 36 HI (18 for engine and 18 for airframe)

250941/36= 6970,58 1E planes

7000 planes?! ONE BB or 7000 planes?! Thats a no brainer?

One thing to consider though is the added HI cost of 7000 extra pilots to be trained. How much is that?

Sorry but I can´t remember. What was the HR?

Sorry. It's 2nd best maneuver band for sweepers only. So CAP can go to max if it wants to do so. The P-40 has been markedly better in this game than in ours, Jocke.

Thats an interesting one! Strongly favours the defender... I think that will benefit you in the end! What are your impressions so far?

Well it seems to even things out in general. No Tojo dominance, and maybe later I'll not have quite such one sided affairs with the Corsair and Spit VIII. The P-47 still has a higher ceiling than anything I can fly, so it might not matter as much against that beast.

Lately it's been more about how many planes can either of us get into a specific battle. More has been winning, regardless of type or altitude. He has gotten 120+ cooperating P-40 sweeps which do very well even at 20k.

18 - 22 October 1942
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

One of the most interesting periods of the game initiated with the air battles of early October and the 18th might have been the most crucial day of this part of the conflict. The Allies throw everything at Magwe again, plus a surprise.

BURMA: On the 18th the entire Allied strike force down to 3 Wirraways bombed our 146th regiment and base force at Magwe. They were one day from level 5 forts when the field was closed a few days before. This became important later as the highly disrupted and partial strength troops were shocked by two Chindit para units landing at the base!

An incredibly bold move, and it almost worked. On the 19th I decided to use the kitchen sink. I flew in the IJN from Victoria Point and brought all Tojo and Oscar units to bear on the Magwe hex, plus called in ground strikes from several 2E units within close range. This was an intense day of air battles and the shear numbers of Japanese planes proved too much for the Allies. Either his sweeps didn't fly for the most part or he tried to put all fighters from Cox's on LR CAP. Trouble is that's 6 hexes, and the P-40Es didn't show up at all on the day, so I'm guessing he tried to use them to CAP at full range. Maybe?

Range is not a problem for the IJN units, so they were flying from all over the place and all made it in for most of the battles that day. The Allied bomber force had major losses, but not as many as I'd hoped from the ridiculous numbers of fighters in the air. Still, about 1/4 of them didn't make it back, so that' not too bad. The 2Es suffered the worst as I only have one 4E-killer Nick group in the area at this point. I also had a ton of Tojo up at 31k expecting massed sweeps, so they probably didn't get to the bombers at 6k.

After the day's air battles my own paras flew in and the Chindits were crushed when they tried another shock later. The poor 146th is down to 17 AV and is 85% disabled, but the light tanks and arty probably played a big part in these battles and kept the base secure. Now for some serious rest, as it's moving back.

I softened up the Chindits for a few days before finally surrounding and wiping them out on the 22nd. The Allies only flew exploratory missions the next few days, including three Wirraways that made an ace for me and P-38s that were roughed up by my still strong CAP. I've begun rotating units out as they've been on LR CAP for a few days and are fatigued. I just bought a ton of base forces, an air HQ, about ten more AA units and some engineers that will all head to the area. If Burma is to be the focal point I need more resources here to get planes into the air and AA to protect troops in the clear.

SUBS: Very little action lately. A few air ASW notes starting to pop up as crews get trained up.

CHINA: I'm bombarding what is now a massive stack of 4200 AV blocking my 3800 AV on the yellow road near Chikhiang. Once my Southern flank move has initiated I'll pull out many of these troops and swing them around to support that move and protect Tuyun.

PACIFIC: Nothing moving.

A pretty good day in the air for the Japanese side. I only lost 12 pilots on the day with another 10 wounded. I would bet the Allies are out a few more than that. When will he run out of the Bolos and Hudsons and other crap that's filling out units now, and what is he using to train pilots?

BURMA
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is he map of Burma. Not much to show as there are no ground actions currently. I recon the jungle hexes periodically to make sure no surprises are coming through.

I feel like the ground war here will be a sideshow to something else. Torsten has CV dominance, and once he decides to do so he could aim to land anywhere on the urmese, Thai, Malayan or Sumatran coastlines. I've placed stung air nodes accordingly, I've been sending garrisons madly to any and even potential landing spot, and I'm training all pilots in low naval skill. All of them. It improves the defense rating and brings experience up, so why not right now while there is a lull. Works for kamis later too.

One thing that support this hypothesis of an invasion from the IO in the near future is some valuable sigint recon from Cochin recently. There are reported to be 146 ships in port and many listed were AP. He lost a lot of small xAP recently, so he would have to bring in lots of good AP to do something here. Looks like he has.

The entire IJN is at either Singapore or Soerabaja. Shokaku is out for another 3-4 months repairing at Singers. Navy will be used as a follow-up to the air force however, and I've got plans for the remaining CVs to be used as fighter heavy platforms with limited striking power to protect and bring the rest of the IJN into range if the initial defensive air-strikes can cripple the invasion and naval forces of any action here.

If he's planning a massive invasion of the Kuriles in the next week before winter, well, then I'm screwed. At least then I'd get early kamis and some new troops.

CHINA
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is a ook at my upcoming attempt to force a breakthrough. After getting stopped on the yellow road near Chikhiang my reserve and some of the northern army are shifting around, hopefully stealthfully, to Tuyun. There they will feign a move across the river while actually moving into the rough wood hex between Tuyun and Kweillin. If I can get enough in there and a head start on the Chinese reinforcements I might be able to break through that hex and on to the are near Kweillin.

About 2.5k AV including the tank divisions will form a follow-on army to rotate in and make good any breakthroughs here. The tanks will stay at Tuyun and wait for opportunities to move across while forming a strong defense again counters toward Tuyun. I have a feeling he may think it vulnerable if he sees only three units here, and the tanks will deal severely with Chinese shocking across a river into +3 territory with 5-6 forts.

The goal is to open a route to the mountains and to take Kweillin and eventually the hex on the road between Tuyun and Kweiyang. If I can get these areas the mountains will be vulnerable and some of the best of the Chinese units may be left to the North essentially out of play. If he moves them, well, then maybe my stack at Chikhiang can actually finally get that base.

I'll trade three Tojo IIa for four P-38E any day of the week! Good stuff. Really appreciate the butchering of the underescorted 2e and 4e bombers too.

This are a seems an afterthought for both of us. He has kept Port Moresby and I've not tried for it. My actual defensive line will begin quite far back even though I took bases to the South. Tulagi and everything in the Solomons South of Shortlands are abandoned.

I still have virtually no troops for the New Guinea to New Britain line, but once new naval guards and garrisons arrive they will all go down here. The Marianas are the first priority and have about 200-300 AV with level 4-5 forts now for the bigger bases. I'll also begin getting the Bonins a garrison soon. Once the CVEs arrive he could support something on the cheap out here, so I'm still keeping some good fighters and Kates here. New IJAAF forces will mostly head to the Pacific as the Burma and DEI areas are packed and overflowing now.

as the Sumatra-Burma coastline is nearing readiness I'll also now focus on the South DEI and Celebes-Moluccas. No sign of an effort by the Aussies to walk over and take Darwin though, which is good.

He had 2 units at Patung last I checked. I don't think I could make headway there though as the 120k sitting on the river crossing near Chikhiang could shift some up to stop a movement there. In the North I've only left about 3k AV to hold. He has a lot of units still up there, including about 20 sitting in the woods near Sian. If I do something he'll start moving to block LOC and harassing the rear with those. It's a long yellow road up there with little supply flow and I think it might not get me through if I used enough troops to make it. I like the Southern flanking route as it's right off the rail and really threatens to blow the whole South open.

We also have an agreement to create a central Chinese reserve should the Chinese collapse completely and Chungking be threatened. For this reason I'm much more interested in getting into the mountains. If I can break through and even get a roadblock to move troops through to get up there it would be huge.

Thats a really odd OP against Magwe. Not a very good one if I may say so. Even if he had been successful there is no way he could have held onto it for longer than a few turns. Even if you had been unable to close the airfield he could never have flown in enough to hold the base for more than e few turns. I am assuming here you have enough in central Burma to kick two Chindits out and whatever he would have been able to fly in over a few turns! Really odd and just a waste of troops and aircraft if you ask me. Feint?

Wirraways? Really? For combat? Thats very counterproductive! You should thank him!

Even more odd, the fields were already closed, so if he'd taken the base he would have had to repair them with any Chindit engineers that come with those units, obviously not enough as I would crush the base the next few days and likely destroy the troops from the air anyway.

Wirraways (34 lost), Lysanders (77 lost), Hudson I (50 lost), Bolos (52 lost), Fulmar II (40 lost). I'm sure he'd be using the CW-22 Flacons if there was a Dutch unit in Burma right now.

It all could be an elaborate ruse and the Bonins will be invaded next week. Not much I could do about that anyway, so I'll enjoy Burma for now.

23 - 24 October 1942
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The next few days have been very quiet. No more bombing runs over central Burma and nothing else moving around the map except my steady bombing of Chinese bases and troops.

CHINA: Interesting. A bombardment that's been running for several days suddenly came up a bit bigger than usual, actually killing off Chinese troops and having no casualties inflicted on ours. I'm wondering if this means supply is getting low. I'll keep it going for a while. I don't dare attack as this stack is bigger than my own, and even a DA here would mean months of recovery. Instead I'm still going to move troops around to the South and in about a week begin the move into the woods.

BURMA: My division and AA are nearly to Magwe moving in combat mode. Another big engineer unit is on the way as well. The fields are still 50% damaged. My fighter units are beginning to take turns standing down to rest planes and pilots.

More arty in China would be a big help. How much does combat drop off once units are short on supply? I've heard several different thoughts on this and I'm not sure it's worth trying anything without knowing for sure. I guess I could try some 1k feet bombing runs and see if the machine guns are firing.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

SUBS: Sub activity has dropped off everywhere but especially up North. I've got two ASW TFs sitting in the narrows, two SAGs of DDs and Es to take care of any lone surface threats, and the Kates are now trained up and operating from the Kuriles, likely discouraging any further action up here. We'll see.

DEI: Strangely, two of my ships hit mines at Singers on the 27th. I had thought this must have been a sub-mined field, and wondered how they got past my own mines there. After the replay I noticed these two ships, one of which sunk, had hit Type 93 mines!!

Poor navigation charts? Bad commanders? Too much partying with the Geishas the night before?

Glad it was only an SC. I had CVs here a few days ago. Yikes.

CHINA: Still getting a lot of supply hits and keeping airfields closed at Chikhiang, Kweiyang and most importantly at Chungking. I'm beginning flights by Nicks to strafe and bomb from 100ft at the Chinese stack in the river crossing hex near Chikhiang. I'm getting convinced he's not just low but out of supply. I have to be sure before initiating any kind of an attack here though. If he has any I could be toast.

Troops wil be in posit to initiate the final Southern China flanking operation. There will be about 4000 AV taking part and they will move into the wooded hills to attack four Chinese units there, hopefully forcing a retreat before they can be reinforced. I of course can slow CHinese movement with the dominance in the air we now have.

PACIFIC: Looks like another supply or troop run into oct moresby. The fighters are back and a small TF listing AP is heading up. All of my zeros are heading to Madang and will sweep tomorrow. Even 1:1 is good for me right now. I need to keep his pools low to suppress action in Burma and I don't mind getting rid of the excess A6M2 pool as the A6M3a is online and the A6M5 is coming on in November!

BURMA: Very quiet since the major fighting around Magwe recently. Surprisingly no big assaults on Mandalay.

There is however something happening in the IO. A set of rather ominous TFs have moved from Ceylon and are heading toward the Andamans or Sumatra! All IJN air groups are returning to their stations at Sabang/Langsha/Medan and Victoria Point/Chumpon. I've got a Mavis group on Port Blair and will move in night searching jakes to another Andaman island.

This is the test we've been waiting for, it seems. Can we hold off the Allied fleets with only air strikes and small naval actions? The plan is to send in the stealth strike force: 40 subs have been waiting at Singapore, Victoria Point and Benkolen. They alng with several DD TFs will get into position. I've got a CL led Sag at Rangoon and it will form a reserve to pick up pieces should there be any hits that create crippled ships and the CVs are not near. I will not risk anything larger now until I know what is being targeted. If he takes station off Sumatra all fleet forces will be put into action from Singapore and Soerabaja, including BBs with the CVs in reserve, again to hit anything left after first strikes and support CAP in the Malay straits, out of range of the Allied CV search and strike force and supported by LBA. Maps in the next post.

OZ: I've begun deeper recon flights in OZ but it seems like there is no major thrust coming from the Tenant Creek area. There are 16k troops there now. I did notice that around 30 bombers are there as well with no fighter cover. I brought in the Helens to Darwin and hit the base at extended range, destroying a few on the ground. Every little bit helps. I'll now see if he moves fighters in. If not, after a few days I'll do it again.

INVASION IN THE ANDAMAN ISLANDS!

SUBS: It's a pretty sight! Roughly 40 subs concentrating in very small area of the IO close to the Andaman Islands. About 1/3 are picked up by air searches and get a DL between 2/2 and 10/10. Some are clean.

Over the course of these several nights and days there were too many contacts involving subs to list, but I've included anything that gave significant damage to either side below. So far we've managed to hit BB Idaho with one TT, CA Houston with one TT, and lost three subs. Several others are sufficiently damaged to return to Singapore, but should be fine. In the next days 2/3 of the subs will swarm while the others move to guard retirement lanes toward Ceylon. Have a look at the map below!

ANDAMANS: The target so far is just one island; Car Nicobar. This has a very good (exp 83) SNLF unit and I've begun flying in paras and a base force. He lands the 100th Indian Brigade and a base force. The CVs are here along with a LOT of surface vessels. This is daunting as the ASW of this many Allied ships in a small space could be tough.

THe Allies attacked on the second day, getting only a 1:2 with a DA. On the 1st they went all-in for a shock attack that only got a 1:3 but knocked out a bunch of SNLF squads disabled. His units must be highly disrupted now and not capable of another attack in spite to their better quality.

The main goal of getting to the CVs with the subs and possibly an airstrike has not yet been achieved. The CVs were at the Car Nicobar hex for a two day stint, but unfortunately our planes couldn't take advantage after TWO cruiser bombardments of Victoria Point, closing the base for a day and taking out about 15 planes. Sabang was working fine though, as was Chumpon, so on the 1st they flew all planes. The CVs moved back a few hexes out of range, sadly avoiding numerous sub interactions, and that left several bombarding cruiser TFs in the Car Nicobar hex with only distant CAP protection.

The 2E had no luck with torpedo attacks, but they likely got the Cap out of position to stop the Kates from Sabang that came in and bombed the Brits and US fleets at 8 hex range. They put serious damage on Caradoc and moderate damage on several other cruisers. Late in the day they also hit one DD.

So if the para units can hold and make this take a bit longer, maybe the DDs will eventually run out of DC ammo! All planes are on for tomorrow again and restricted to Car Nicobar range. I have LR CAP over the base from Port Blair and a group of Rufes stationed at Car Nicobar providing extra escort support. Also, the reports show 44 Wildcats lost on the 1st, so the CV protection is weakened. Will he stick around?

PACIFIC: More sweeping here led to even losses of about 25 planes for each side. Works for me. Subs rescued many pilots in the drink at PM.

I wonder:
If he knew Car was occupied?
What his tactical map shows? (that is a lot of subs!)
What the thinking is landing at one island between yours with no strips built?
I would call this move a mini canoe.
What Musashi and Yamato could do with a decent fast screen?

He did know Car was occupied. I had kicked his previous base force out of there during the last try here.

It seems about 30-40% of subs are sighted during the turn, but whichever ones end up on the fringes are not. Which is good, as they then move in while the others head to block his retreat.

Not sure why he came to one island. I think it might have been a plan to lure out more of my surface forces, to bombard my main air bases, and to see if at seemingly little risk to his forces (his CVs only briefly were within the extended range of the Kates, and never in DB range). He might also be assessing how strong the defenses are here, and what I can do to a major invasion should he attempt one.

I'd call it more of a paper boat.

I haven't built Musashi, but I will leave the bombarding here later to CLs and DDs, and I'll be sending Sallys daily once the CVs clear off.

2 - 3 November 1942
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

SUBS: The I-32 got through to the damaged CA TF, where Caradoc shows heavy damage, but only gets a shot at a DD and is then sunk by the rest of the escorts. Having to rev up to avoid subs could send damaged ships under though, so it could still be a useful engagement. A later engagement with the I-8, and two more later in the day show the same ships but Caradoc is missing. The I-5 finishes off DD Sims. The I-19 puts one TT into CA Vincennes. The I-153 finally gets our first shot at a CV but somehow misses Hornet with a spread of 6. Frustrating.

I was optimistic some more of the damaged ships could be given more fatal shots by the wolf-packs here, but there were very few engagements on the 3rd and few shots even though we got about 20 of the faster subs into the retreat paths to Colombo. All of the damaged subs are being sent to Singapore, and a few of the healthy ones will stay near Ceylon to see if there is anything left to hit.

CHINA: It looks like he's reinforcing the hex I'm aiming for with at least one more unit. Still, 5 Chinese in the rough +3 is better than taking on 25 on a river crossing i nthe same territory, so in spite of my desire to go all in for a big assault, I'll stick to the long range plan here. Once the big stack moves out of Tuyun I wonder to if I'll be able to entice him to move over the river against the two remaining units there, which will be two armored divisions behind level 4 forts!

PACIFIC: Fighters move again to PM. He is game to wear down his pools, and I'm certainly not going to turn down the offer. My pilot strength is improving here as well. As I get them into th e70s in exp I'll transition them out for recently trained pilots.

BURMA: Troops on Car begin to recover and the remainder of the three para units fill out to give the base some solidity until a 120 AV garrison unit can be brought in by fast transport to begin working on the Indian brigade here. Because he didn't get the base at least his forts will be more difficult to build here.

OZ: Helens again take out a few planes on the ground at Tennant Creek.

I like it too. He actually has about 4-5 CVs in those TFs usually, which I think might be too many considering early war coordination problems and the need for more escorts to protect them against subs.

SUBS: The subs near Ceylon get no further strikes on anything larger than a DD, and several are sent home with significant damage. About 4-5 ASW TFs are roaming the waters now. Time to get out.

CHINA: Nicks are still getting to 100 feet against the big Chinese stack and receiving no AA, putting small hits on the troops. This should mean he's out of supply here, but I don't want to risk a massive defeat yet. I'll wait until he possibly shifts troops to defend the Tuyun-Kweiyang area and after more days of bombardment and steady air strikes.

PACIFIC: No action as I decided to upgrade my zeros here to A6M3a.

BURMA: CVs left Ceylon again and seem to be heading back toward Diego. Are they possibly shifting to anther theatre through Cape Town?

No further moves here in the air or on the ground. Magwe is back in action with an air HQ and no damage to the fields.

Kiso and other CL/DD are running fast transport to Car now. These ships are so useful in this role; quick and with 400 troop and 250 cargo capacity.

SUBS: The sub flotillas are sortying again. The Allied CVs show themselves and look to be coming back for some reason again.

INDIAN OCEAN: My fast transports dropped a garrison unit on Car and this is going to make the base all but impregnable to assault in the near future unless the Allies are coming with more. Interestingly, the CVs that looked to be heading toward Diego circled around and caught my smaller CL led force that had unloaded and chased a group of APDs at Car. I still don't know what these ships were doing there, as none were attacked and there are still only two units there.

All subs and planes are on stand-by. I took the liberty of inserting 300 mines at Sabang and Victoria point in case of bombardments and I have 50 on subs heading to Car for the 10th. At Sabang 50 Kates with escorts are set, 65 Nells are ready from Medan, another 100 Bettys and 50 Kates from Victoria Point, 30 Betty from Chumpon and 25 Vals from Port Blair. All are aiming for one hex beyond Car which is 9 hexes for Kates and 10-15 for the 2E torpedo bombers.

There are 25-30 subs not damaged and ready to go, and there are MTBs and midget subs at Sabang plus the non-damaged CL/DD TF at Victoria Point. Only 3% moonlight. Long Lance time!

He may just be extracting his troops, or something else, but I'm ready for more invasions as well.

CHINA: All troops should be at Tuyun tomorrow and then will begin moving together once out of strat mode.

PACIFIC: Some sweeps pover two days again result in just about 1:1 losses.

BURMA: The Chindits land at Ramree Island and take the base. I'll begin walking an IJA division there which will take it back if he doesn't bring more. If he does bring more there are now 27 Vals and 30 Kates at Rangoon with 45 A6M3a. I'll begin LR CAP from Prome tomorrow.

Since I know the Chindits are not full strength, I now he has to bring more of other units to try to keep this base. It'll be interesting to be on th either side of an air transport reinforcement.

His SBD pilots are disappointing their CO I'm sure. That's quite a nice escape, considering the number of sorties over the cruiser. Hopefully the fires are under control with little floatation or engine damage.

It was a short-lived escape, I'm afraid.

SUBS: Only one sub had contact with the Allied fleet, not getting a shot off. Others hover around Car just waiting for a chance.

INDIAN OCEAN: So now I'm not sure the purpose of the Allied CV mission back toward the Andamans. Maybe this was just a run back to hit ships I sent in to reinforce Car and see what other targets of opportunity were around. If this is the case it accomplished it's goals admirably.

The wounded CL Kiso and several DDs made their way to near Port Blair before the Allied CVs moved in from their trajectory aimed at Car and hit them with more DB and TB strikes. Over these days he sank the Kiso and five good DDs. I'm really steamed I let these ships get into harms way, and I can't afford these kinds of losses now. The IJN is sitting in port primarily just for this reason, but still I managed to lose six more very useful ships for the price of one sunk DD and a reinforced dot base. Not enough.

The Allied cruisers hit Sabang on the 10th for little damage, but somehow avoided the 320 mines there while bombarding from has close as 8000 yards. That doesn't seem right. They managed to miss all three big subs and 4 midgets stationed at and on the approaches to the base, but did sink 4 MTBs and got into a skirmish with three small DDs which got in close to 1k yards and Minekaze sank the USS Balch with a TT hit.

About 33 Nells made torpedo runs against these ships at 14 hex range and none could score a hit. Good pilots too. Not sure what is happening there.

The Allied CVs were engaged accidentally by the four DDs I sent to refuel another injured ship, and they got to 7k yards firing Long Lances, but no hits were landed. They did score 3 x 12.7cm hits on Saratoga which was nice, but not enough for such low moonlight and such close engagements. It should be a Long Lance dream engagement. If the CVs were screened then I''m surprised the escorts didn't get some hits.

From Port Blair a flight of Vals escorted by Tojos and Oscars managed to break 16 through. They had dives on the Enterprise, Saratoga and Hermes (as well as 4 who went for a DD !!???!!), but scored only two x 250kg hits on the Hermes. Not exactly what I was looking for, but nice to know they could get through the CAP.

BURMA: He tried to reinforce Ramree by sea with an xAKL solo run, and it was hit and sunk by Kates from Rangoon.

Lightnings made a concerted effort to clear LR CAP over Ramree and got good results (about 2.5:1), but still left some CAP there which over three days caused the loss of 30+ transports and flying boats. I think he's going to find this is not an easy place to maintain troops at this point in the war, and if he gets the CVs involved that'll just put them again in harm's way near LBA and hordes of subs. My division is moving slowly across, and should get there

OZ: Some more bombing of Tenant Creek and a few more planes hit n the ground.

This was hard to watch. you wan to make a mark when you can get anything in shooting range of the main CV fleet, and we had two engagements that came up virtually empty in one day.

SUBS: All subs in the IO go into small area patrols and a few move out for deep early warning search. About ten are having repairs done at Singapore and Victoria Point.

INDIAN OCEAN: The US CVs do not reappear. Still curious here what will be next. There is also what appears to be a SAG hanging around Chittagong. Kates and Vals at Rangoon are still active.

CHINA: All troops begin moving to the woods, and immediately Chinese troops show movement from Kweiyang and the blocking stack near Tuyun. Interestingly the troops in the river blocking hex also show movement toward Kweillin. If he's moving all of these units, sending some to the woods and some to Kweillin, firstly the ones in movement have lost their fortification. Secondly maybe few units will be here in a few moves. I'm thinking of sending the two Armored divisions over the river. Yikes. They could get trashed, but sometimes even at poor odds, tanks in China don't lose a lot of squads or devices in battle against superior forces.

There are some big decisions here. I'll post some maps soon.

PACIFIC: No fighters in PM now. I'm reconning NE OZ bases from Milne Bay, and there isn't a lot around, confirming that this seems like a secondary theatre for both of us. Most bases on New Britain and New Guinea will not build past level 2 fields and level 1 ports, but will aim for 5-6 forts.

BURMA: While two groups of Lightnings found empty air over the troops near Ramree, my LR CAP over that base didn't react and move to cover, which was a good thing this day. Later around 10-12 transports were taken down over Ramree. I sent sweeps targeting about 80 fighters newly based at Cox's Bazaar. I imagined these were LR CAP for Ramree. Often LR CAP will defend it's own base before heading out to the assigned destination. This seems to be what happened here. All planes were set at 10k and arrived in small packets. First Nicks arrived and got about even numbers. Then the Tojos arrived and lost no planes and killed about 25 of the opposing.

Arriving perfectly after the sweeps, 25 Sallys met no opposition and wrecked the base hitting more fighters on the ground.

While writing this up I received a message from Torsten about revising our HRs. Interesting. He wants night-bombing back, obviously, as he doesn't want to have to lose bombers bombing in daylight.

Can the Japanese player actually have success without it being 'unfair?' Seems a good question lately.

My worst fears as an AFB. Surface combat with my CV TFs which seldom have more than one heavy cruiser attached for protection with 1 plane guard DD and 4-5 more escorting DDs per carrier. I usually have a surface force at "0" hexes react 3 to ward off this type of encounter, but I'm not sure it will work as it has never been triggered in three PBEMs.

I had 4 Kongo BBs get to the Allied CVs and fight for a good while landing no hits on them i spite of surprise and a few other advantages. It was incredibly frustrating, especially in this game after my KB was hit on turn two by a 22 knot BB Nevada over and over in one combat and somehow was not screened and couldn't just run away. My expectations for surface combat against Allied CVs is very low. The law of percentages has to work for my on maybe the third or four try though, right?
