If you do that, then Echos by Pink Floyd would count as 4 songs, as it clocks in at 20 minutes. This of course would be one my 20.

Right music lovers. How about we set out our all time top 20 toons.

Warspite1,

My apologies. I did not translate "toons" as "tunes or songs lasting no longer than five minutes." In future, I shall pay more attention when translating post-modern English into any intelligible language.

And Dangnabbit... Echoes by Pink Floyd was going to be one of my twenty...

Best wishes,
Steve

No hard and fast rules - my view is a track is a track no matter how long. One of my choices is almost 18 minutes long.

The question re symphonys came about because I'm not sure if the movements within should count as one track or if we should be allowed to include the symphony itself?

Gut feel says it should be limited to movements but I'm happy to go with the flow.

Warspite1,

You may have a point there. Still, not planning to include any more symphonies.

My ninth selection ...

The Grateful Dead - Ripple

Warspite,
Your British metric top 20 system is just gonna have to hang... I'm sauced up and enjoying too much honky tonk.

Honky tonk? You don't say... sure do, par'ner.

My music causes itches that it usually takes some money to scratch.

I like the classic rock like shunwick does but never was a fan of the Grateful Dead. Just never did anything for me except for Friend of the Devil. I just dig the country rock in that tune and the thought of the outlaw on the run.

So onto 9/20. For this choice I will be totally and utterly beaten up by the musical intelligentsia because of who sang it, commercial song blah blah

But I don't care. This song has some wonderful lines - and a wonderful, full-on string sound to accompany them. Qualitee

Everybody's looking for that something
One thing that makes it all complete
.....

Some find it in the face of their children
Some find it in their lover's eyes

.....

Well, for me it's waking up beside you
To watch the sunrise on your face
To know that I can say I love you
In any given time or place

We reach the halfway mark. And for my next toon, I dip once more into the world of commercial pop. However, once again I make no apology for this. This song reminds me of my late teens, summer holidays abroad and starting my work career. The lyrics are excellent "I'm never gonna dance again, guilty feet have got no rhythm", the music too and with a lovely sax break.

George Michael - Careless Whisper

McFadden and Whitehead - Ain't No Stopping Us Now.
Underworld - And I Will Kiss
Cee Lo Green - Mary Did You Know?
Blutengel - Silent Death
Emily Browning - Asleep
Soft Cell - Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
Westlife - Flying Without Wings
George Michael - Careless Whisper

John Berry movie theme songs downloaded from Youtube, various James Bond riffs, Midnight Cowboy, others. Just orchestration right now. Very relaxing.

We all like what we like. As you know full well, the world would be dead boring if we all liked and disliked the same things. Celebrate the variety in life!

For my twelfth selection...

Of course! I am just stating that Jazz is not something I can appreciate - I just don't get it...

Kate Bush on the other hand Breathing is probably my favourite song of hers. So original, luv it!

Swedish Prog band called The Flower Kings. Excellent band with very skilled musicians. Their latest album Desolation Rose, which was released couple of weeks ago is simply brilliant. It's kind of a neoprog stuff spiced with nice sounding old-school playing. The guitarist and leading figure Roine Stolt with his teammates prove again that the band is still kickin' and hopefully they will do so many years. I think that fans of 70's prog will like this one...
