HUZZAH! I can finally post in the right thread. I'd like to celebrate by posting what I hope is the last installment of my Nike facilities requests:

The United States activated the first Nike Ajax battery in 1955. The last Ajax battery was shutdown in 1964. It had been superseded by the more powerful Nike Hercules, which became operational in 1958. Because the new missile had three times the range of its predecessor, fewer batteries were needed to cover the defended areas. During the 6 years that the two missiles were in service concurrently, those Nike Ajax batteries that were not closed were converted to fire Nike Hercules.

In several cases during the conversion period, batteries hosted both Ajax and Hercules missiles. While an individual magazine never had both missiles simultaneously, every site hosted multiple magazines and some mags continued to operate Ajax while others were converted to Hercules (Note that since equipment was replaced to accommodate the heavier missiles, some 4-launcher Ajax complexes became 3-launcher Hercules complexes. Whether it became a 3 or 4-launcher complex depended on the specific magazine type – types which you may be relieved to know that I omitted from the details of my already-too-long bloviations). When Nike Ajax was finally retired, their magazines were either converted or closed. For example, a 12-launcher Ajax site could eventually become a 10, 11 or 12-launcher Hercules site if all magazines were kept, or a 7 or 8 launcher site if one were closed.

For “double sites” (sites with two IFCs), in many cases one of the IFCs was shutdown along with half of the magazines, to make a double Ajax site into a single Hercules site. During the transition, one of the IFCs received the Basic Nike Hercules radars while the other continued to operate the Nike Ajax radars.

Because the introduction of Improved Nike Hercules started as Nike Ajax was being retired, no mixed sites had the Improved Nike Hercules radars (i.e. HIPAR/ABAR & TTR/TRR Pairs).

The Missile Tracking Radar that served as the datalink for Basic Nike Hercules could also guide Nike Ajax. In my two previous Nike posts, I recommended making one datalink for each missile (the only difference being the range of the link). Now that I think of it, you may want to just make one datalink that’s compatible with both. Whatever works.

At any rate, here (using mounts and their weapons records from my previous posts) are some of the mixed Nike batteries that might have been found in the 1958-63 time-frame:

Hi Paul

Could you please add a AGM-48 Skybolt weapon record (2xAGM-48 Skybolt). This record would fit both the proposed Vulcan and B-52 loadouts.
The weapon is in the DB but I canดt play with it.

Thanks

S๘ren

There are a couple issues of consistency with the Polaris missiles and their RVs: UGM-27A Polaris A1 SLBM is listed as [3 MRV x W58 200kT Nuclear], but instead it separates into 3 W47 Y1 (600 kt); the Polaris A2 is shown as having the same 3 W58 MRVs, but instead it separates into 3 W47 Y2 (1.2 mT). It should either be 1 W47 per missile, or 3 W58. The A3 entry is consistent with its RVs.

Any chance of

TBM-3W (1945) version, with the 1945 AN/APS-20?
Various Japanese Kamikazes
1945 Radar Picket Submarine?
Ryan FR Fireball

If you give me some time, I can get what data I have on the 1945 APS-20 and 1945 Radar Pickets.

PA 58 Verdun is in the game currently, but most of the things I've read about her seem to include a navalized variant of the Mirage IV. Could this be added?

Could you check the US FRAM gearings (and maybe the sumners as well) but their fuel consumption is way off...like 1 years worth of fuel...the Fletchers seem ok.

Also none of the FRAMs or Albany, Des Moines, Iowa etc have any UNREP capability.

Thanks!

I hope this hasn't been listed yet, but the B-50D (unit id: 502) in the CWDB has a maximum fuel capacity of 1365 kg which severely limits its utility.

From a quick search I found its capacity was closer to 13,000+ kg.

I've made a few mistakes on the sugestions I submitted, namely regarding the G.91 versions belonging to the Portuguese, Italian and German Air Forces. I've edited the original post, but I'll post the corrected sugestions here.

- FIAT G.91 R/3 (’76-’93)

- Identical to the FIAT G.91/R1 (#2672), except in the following:
- 2 x DEFA 552 30mm cannons instead of the Browning M3 12,7mm machineguns
- Should have 3 VINTEN F95 Mk.3 reconnaissance cameras pointed front, left and right
- Has 4 external pylons
- Missing loadouts:
--- 4 x LAU-32/A (7 x FFAR Mk.40 each)
--- 2 x GP 500 lbs + 4 x GP 110 lbs bombs
--- 2 x GP 500 lbs + 2 x GP 250 lbs bombs
--- 4 x 250 lbs bombs
--- 2 x 300l Napalm bomb
- Other known weapons:
--- Mk20 Rockeye
--- Mk81 Snakeye
--- BL755 cluster bomb
--- 110/250/500/750 lbs GP bombs

The Safeguard ABM facility is currently unusable in its current form. The Spartan needs to have its maximum target speed set to 11000 knots and maximum target altitude set to 560 KM. It also needs it's datalink range increased to 460 miles and be equipped with a 5 Megaton warhead. The Sprint needs its maximum speed to be increased to 6615 knots and its acceleration to be increased to 981 m/s it also will reach its maximum speed in the 0-65000 ft range. The Sprint's maximum target velocity needs to be increased to 10500 knots and maximum target altitude to 40 km. The Air POH for the sprint should also be increased as the missile demonstrated extreme accuracy to the point of effectively being a hit to kill interceptor. Here are my sources http://www.nuclearabms.info/Spartan.html http://www.nuclearabms.info/Sprint.html http://srmsc.org/mis2020.html http://srmsc.org/mis2010.html

Also could this be ported over to DB3000 as a hypothetical facility?

Thanks!

I concur with Crazy Ivan's Sprint & Spartan inputs. I've been working on them too. His performance figures are good. I can re-edit and give you my sensor & facilities information (both real & hypothetical) in the next week or two. Making them "hypothetical" in DB3000 is a good idea.

Hi Paul

Thanks for adding the Skybolt, but there are still a few issues.
The AGM-48 is still set as a cruise missile at 1400 m, and the GAM-87 is a set at a cruise altitude of 61000m.

Thanks to considering this.
S๘ren

A couple of fuel-related issues with CWDB 470. First, from the tech forum, an issue with the B-29/B-50:
quote:

I have just observed that the B-29 superfortress only have a paltry 1365kg of fuel which makes them declare BINGO four minutes after takeoff (thats how I discovered the issue). Per comparison a B-17 medium bomber carres a little more than 10000kg.

The problem affects ALL the superfortress variants in the DB including the B-50s but not the KB-50s which carry more than 65000kg of fuel, as I suppose it should be, and all the Tu-4 Bull variants.

Playing with 972.13 CWDB 470

Ancalagon

Next, the LSD mismatch noted back in February and fixed has come back in the latest CWDB, at least with respect to the Thomaston class in NI's Deliverance.
