Can the battleship Novorossiysk be added to the Soviet surface ship roster?
Originally the Giulio Caesare, was transferred to the USSR in 1949. I kinda need it for an RP. The ship was planned on being refit with 12" guns, but sank before that could happen.

Adding on to this, the Andrea Doria class need to be added, they served in the MM until 1956. I know these won't be high on the priority list, but their inclusion would be enormously appreciated.

I've done some research regarding the Italian Starfighter variants, which concern both databases. In the interest of brevity, I'll just copy my findings from researching the operating and maintenance manuals here:

I was playing the “Albania Airstrike” scenario and I noticed the Interceptor version of the F-104S had a radar whose range was shorter than it’s missiles’ range. Moreover, the fighter-bomber had a much longer-ranged radar, which struck me as odd.

So I dug around for some information about the F-104S and I found some Maintenance Manuals that shed some light on the issue:

In page 13-4 of the manual (or page 187 of the pdf file) it says:

“a. Configurazione R21G/H NASARR per velivole AWX. In tale configurazione il radar opera congiuntamente all’impianto di comando e lancio missili AIM-7E (…).

b. Configurazione F15G/H NASARR per velivoli FB che no contempla l’impiego dell’impianto di comando e lancio missili AIM-7E.”

Translation:

"a. NASARR R21G/H configuration for AWX aircraft. In this configuration, the radar works together with the AIM-7E missile control and launching system (...).

b. F15G/H NASARR configuration for FB aircraft that does not include the use of AIM-7E missile control and launching system."

So, according to the maintenance manual, the Interceptor (AWX) version carried the R21G/H radar and the fighter-bomber (FB) version carried the F15G/H radar, not the other way around.

Also, according to page 13-5 of the manual (page 188 of the pdf file) all interceptor variants of the F-104S (AWX and ASA-CIO) carried an IR sight.

Finally, according to page 1-2 of the manual (15 of the pdf), only fighter-bomber variants (FB and ASA-CBO) carried an ECM suite: the FB variant carried the ALQ-70, while the ASA-CBO carried the updated ALQ-70/73. The cannon was only carried by fighter-bomber variants as well.

[P.S.: Would you be so kind as to consider some of the configuration detailed in page A1-6 (348 of the pdf) of the Flight Manual? The 2 wingtip tank + 2 underwing tank + 2 Sparrow/Aspide missiles configuration seems very interesting (and useful!), in particular.]

Considering this data, I suggest the following changes:

#2245 – F-104S Starfighter
- The F-104S version represented in this entry is a fighter-bomber, and as such, should have the EL-70 ECM/RWR suite and the NASARR F-15G radar instead of the R-21G/H.

#2823 – F-104S Starfighter CBO
- It should use FFAR rockets instead of HYDRA rockets.
- It should be capable of carrying 2 LAU-10/A rocket pods (4 ZUNI rockets each).
- The ground attack version of the F-104S used the NASARR F-15G radar, not the R-21G/H.
- This version should be renamed the F-104S/FB Starfighter.

#2105 – F-104S Starfighter CIO
- The interceptor version of the F-104S used the NASARR R-21G/H, not the F-15G.
- It should have an infrared sight.
- This version should be renamed the F-104S/AWX Starfighter.

The AN/APQ-104 Radar

I was browsing the database when I noticed something odd: of the French Navy’s Crusaders, the oldest version has an immensely superior radar (the AN/APQ-94) than the later version’s radar (the AN/APQ-104). According to the information I was able to find, not only did the AN/APQ-94 never equip the French Crusaders (as it was unable to illuminate the R.530 SARH missile, the main armament of the French F-8E) but the AN/APQ-104 was an upgrade of the AN/APQ-94! However, it is markedly inferior.

Let’s compare the stats of both radars:

The AN/APQ-94 has a range of 50NM, is noted in the database as “Radar, FCR, Air-to-Air, Short-Range” and has the following Abilities: Late 1950’s Tech, Air Search, Range, Altitude, Speed, and Heading Information.

The AN/APQ-104, in contrast, has a range of 8NM (half of the range of it’s primary weapon), is noted in the database as “Radar, Range-Only” and has the following Abilities: Late 1970’s Tech, Air, Surface, and Ground (Fixed) Search, and Range Information.

The information I was able to find states that the AN/APQ-104 radar is an upgraded AN/APQ-94, capable of directing the R.530 missile, with a range of 60NM for navigation and 25NM for interception. It has also been in service since the first Crusaders were delivered to the French Navy in 1964.

I hope I’ve provided you with hard enough evidence in sufficient quantity to convince you to take action regarding this piece of equipment.

Additionally, in the sake of completeness, I’ll add some minor suggestions below to make the affected aircraft’s loadout historically accurate.

#668 – F-8E(FN) Crusader [Le Crouze]
- It should have the AN/APQ-104 radar instead of the AN/APQ-94.
- It should also carry the R.530 (IR) missile.

#2847 – F-8E(FN) Crusader [Le Crouze]
- It should also carry the R.530 (IR) missile.

Thanks :) we try and do our best across the board but somethings things slip through but we do pick them up, database wise takes alot of research I normally work on cross reference three different sources before I commit to an update as we use public domain sources for what we do etc, the older platforms take abit more time due to the time frame ie 1950s etc

I want to start of by saying that I'm very grateful to .Sirius for implementing all my sugestions regarding the Portuguese Air Force. Unfortunately, I've found some mistakes. I don't want to sound like an entitled **** but I feel that way when I complain about the way someone did something for me without asking for nothing in return. Oh well, here it goes:

Mostly, the thing I've found was some aircraft had loadouts that were too heavy for them to carry. Allow me to elaborate:

F.95 Panoramic Camera

- Currently the F.95 is only capable of Surface Search. It should also have Ground Search (Fixed) and Ground Search (Mobile), as it was used in that function, historically.

#3727 – FIAT G.91 R/3 (’76-’93)

- Please remove the 4 x BL.755, 4 x Mk20 Rockeye, 4 x Mk77 Incendiary, SNEB 68mm and SNEB 68mm Long Range loadouts, as the first three are too heavy for the plane to take off and the last two use rockets that never entered service with the Portuguese Air Force
- Please add a 2 x Mk82 + 2 x 520l drop tank loadout
- Please add an “Internal Guns Only” loadout with 2 x 520l drop tanks for AAW missions
- The “100Kg GPB, Mk82 LDGP (BAI/CAS)” should have 4 x 50Kg GPB instead of 4 x 100Kg GPB. The current loadout is too heavy for the plane to take off.
- Please remove the ability for probe refuelling, as the G.91 didn’t have that capability.

#3728 – FIAT G.91 R/4 (’66-’93)

- The G.91R/4 had 4 x 12,7mm M2 Browning machine guns as main armament, not the 2 x 30mm DEFA 552 cannons
- Please remove the “AIM-9B Sidewinder” and “AIM-9B Sidewinder Long Range” loadouts, as the Portuguese G.91s were only fitted with AIM-9B launchers in 1981
- Please remove the 4 x BL.755, 4 x Mk20 Rockeye, 4 x Mk77 Incendiary, SNEB 68mm and SNEB 68mm Long Range loadouts, as the first three are too heavy for the plane to take off and the last two use rockets that never entered service with the Portuguese Air Force

Also, regarding the Portuguese Alouette III, you added the "Lobo Mau" gunship with the 20mm cannon (#3706), but also with cargo and SAR loadouts. Is there any way to tie the gun to a specific loadout? Because the cannon platform occupied all cargo space of the Alouette III when it was used as a gunship (as you can see in this picture) so, when the chopper was used as a gunship, it couldn't carry personnel.
Maybe #3706 could remain with just a "Ground Attack" loadout and #1075 could remain the same, but with the "Maritime Surveilance" loadout removed (as it was never used by the Navy)?

I swear to christ this is the last time I'll talk about the G.91!

So I was thinking about the long range loadouts on the G.91 when I saw this picture:

As you can see, the 520l drop tanks are in the inner pylons and the 260l tanks are in the outer pylons. So when they're carrying 500lb bombs (which can only be carried in the inner pylons), they can only use 260l tanks.

Considering this, I ask of you (pretty please?):

For #3727 & #3728:

- Please change the fuel tanks in the “BL.755 No.1 CB Long Range”, “Mk20 Rockeye II CB Long Range” and “Mk77 500lb Incendiary Bomb Long Range” from a 520l drop tank to a 260l drop tank.
- Please change the fuel tank in the Mk82 500lb long range loadout I requested in my previous post from a 520l tank to a 260l tank.

For #44:

- Please change the fuel tank in the Mk82 500lb long range loadout I requested in my previous post from a 520l tank to a 260l tank.

Also, on a completely unrelated matter, I noticed a bug on all SB2C-5 Helldivers in the database:

#394, #1156, #2670, #1066, #2615, #3427, #3223 – SB2C-5 Helldiver

Please add China version of LA-11. Imported 163 La-11 fighters from 1950-1953. The last 18 La-11 airplanes retired in 1966.

Armed with a choice of either 20kt, 15kt, or 8kt tactical nuclear weapons, presumably still capable of carrying the conventional munitions of the standard Q-5. It uses the loft bombing technique exclusively in delivery of nuclear weapons.

I may have a little bit of OCD.

I started out researching the Portuguese Neptunes, but as I came upon more and more information, I started gathering data about more and more variants of the Neptune, eventually encompassing all variants used by foreign countries (and the P2V-4).

The following is the sum total of my research, as close to reality as I could discover. Firstly you have the characteristics and loadouts of each version, and then you have the versions each country used, with the corresponding database numbers (referred to as DB#).

In that list, I took the liberty of reassigning some numbers when a certain country had too many entries for the versions it had fielded and the other had not enough.

In other cases, the reassigned numbers were of "fictitious" entries: Chile never fielded the Neptune, and France never fielded the P2V-5 (though it fielded the P2V-6 and the P2V-7), so I reassigned those numbers.

KA-17 Panoramic Camera
- Currently the KA-17 is only capable of Surface Search. It should also have Ground Search (Fixed) and Ground Search (Mobile).

AN/APS-20
- From page 141 of the P2V-5F Flight Handbook (page 167 of the pdf file):
“As a search radar, it can detect a small aircraft (…) up to 65 miles, a medium sized plane (…) up to 85 miles, or a ship the size of a destroyer at (…) 200 miles.” (I do not know if they mean nautical miles or regular ones, though.)
- From page 147 of the P2V-5F Flight Handbook (page 173 of the pdf file):
“The AN/APS-20 radar is (…) capable of scanning through 360 degrees for a map type presentation of land masses, ships, and aircraft.”
- Considering the above, the AN/APS-20 radar should have “Air Search” and a 360 degree coverage.
- In earlier versions, the AN/APS-20 was capable of search, but not of targeting. That is why the P2V-4 and early versions of the P2V-5 had an AN/APS-31 radar installed, for air-to-ground and air-to-air targeting and ranging.

Now, I have a few requests for hypothetical Chinese missiles-

SSM Bn (DF-4 [CSS-3] TEL) -- China (Second Artillery Corps), 1975, Early deployment

SSM Silo (DF-4 [CSS-3]) -- China (Second Artillery Corps), 1975, Early deployment

SSM Silo (DF-5 [CSS-4 Mod-1]) -- China (Second Artillery Corps), 1975, Early deployment

Technically, all of these missiles are outside of the CWDBs timeline, but had the Cultural Revolution not occured, they would have been deployed early.

The technical data is already in the DB3000, so hopefully these will be easy to implement. Thank you for spending your time to manage this database!

I started out researching the Portuguese Neptunes, but as I came upon more and more information, I started gathering data about more and more variants of the Neptune, eventually encompassing all variants used by foreign countries (and the P2V-4).

- Currently the KA-17 is only capable of Surface Search. It should also have Ground Search (Fixed) and Ground Search (Mobile).

AN/APS-20
- From page 141 of the P2V-5F Flight Handbook (page 167 of the pdf file):
“As a search radar, it can detect a small aircraft (…) up to 65 miles, a medium sized plane (…) up to 85 miles, or a ship the size of a destroyer at (…) 200 miles.” (I do not know if they mean nautical miles or regular ones, though.)
- From page 147 of the P2V-5F Flight Handbook (page 173 of the pdf file):
“The AN/APS-20 radar is (…) capable of scanning through 360 degrees for a map type presentation of land masses, ships, and aircraft.”
- Considering the above, the AN/APS-20 radar should have “Air Search” and a 360 degree coverage.
- In earlier versions, the AN/APS-20 was capable of search, but not of targeting. That is why the P2V-4 and early versions of the P2V-5 had an AN/APS-31 radar installed, for air-to-ground and air-to-air targeting and ranging.

At some point please consider including the SM-62 Snark cruise missile at it would pretty much complete the OOB for SAC. One squadron was operational briefly from the SAC base at Presque Isle Maine.

Handy for testing Soviet air defences from the early 1960's. Or maybe those of Brazil since the wreckage of one launched at the Atlantic Missile Test Range at Ascension Island was discovered in the Amazon rain forest.

I started out researching the Portuguese Neptunes, but as I came upon more and more information, I started gathering data about more and more variants of the Neptune, eventually encompassing all variants used by foreign countries (and the P2V-4).

- From page 141 of the P2V-5F Flight Handbook (page 167 of the pdf file):
“As a search radar, it can detect a small aircraft (…) up to 65 miles, a medium sized plane (…) up to 85 miles, or a ship the size of a destroyer at (…) 200 miles.” (I do not know if they mean nautical miles or regular ones, though.)
- From page 147 of the P2V-5F Flight Handbook (page 173 of the pdf file):
“The AN/APS-20 radar is (…) capable of scanning through 360 degrees for a map type presentation of land masses, ships, and aircraft.”
- Considering the above, the AN/APS-20 radar should have “Air Search” and a 360 degree coverage.
- In earlier versions, the AN/APS-20 was capable of search, but not of targeting. That is why the P2V-4 and early versions of the P2V-5 had an AN/APS-31 radar installed, for air-to-ground and air-to-air targeting and ranging.
