I had one of those when I posted the last post in this thread, I had copied the post I made and when I came back to repost, the post was up. Go figure.

Talk about a quiet turn, two small air attacks, no ground attacks, nothing happening.

But, an interesting development in China. It seems that he has pulled all his units from
Changsha to the hex Southwest of Changsha. I am moving some of the units from Changsha to both Siangtan and Hengyang On the last bombardment attach he had 39 units in Changsha and I showed 3 units in the hex he has moved to. I have major roads and he has minor roads to travel, so I should be able to get units moved before he can attack. And both moves will result in him crossing a river. At this point I do not see a movement arrow, even using the magnifier.

The three units that started SW of Changsha crossed the river today into Siangtan:

Ground combat at Siangtan (81,52)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 25029 troops, 180 guns, 42 vehicles, Assault Value = 886

Defending force 19278 troops, 76 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 548

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 2

Japanese adjusted assault: 739

Allied adjusted defense: 589

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 2)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 2

Combat modifiers
Defender: forts(+), leaders(+), preparation(-), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), fatigue(-)

Japanese ground losses:
2544 casualties reported
Squads: 11 destroyed, 176 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 33 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 13 disabled
Guns lost 10 (1 destroyed, 9 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
1721 casualties reported
Squads: 8 destroyed, 136 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 15 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 9 disabled
Guns lost 12 (1 destroyed, 11 disabled)

Assaulting units:
55th Infantry Brigade
39th Division
12th Ind.Mixed Brigade

Defending units:
4th Chinese Corps
46th Chinese Corps
9th War Area

So now I am entertaining the thought of moving all of the
Chinese units to India/Burma.

Andy Mac, if you are reading, I really dislike this map with all the extra bases, there
are so many dot bases I have to protect against an airborne attack that it dilutes my forces.

Last day of February

Japanese Ships
DMS W-20, Shell hits 2, on fire

I was wondering why he waited so long to invade Rabaul? And, yes, evacuate to PM or Tulagi.

I am making PM a bit of a stronghold. It probably will not keep him from taking it if he wants,
but maybe it will be a bit expensive.

The expense he is paying for at Singapore is lost time that he will never get back. I did manage once to take it on Dec 31st, but pulled off a very effective Mersing Gambit. My problem was that I did not use that extra time for further conquest. The hardest thing for a Japanese player in those early months is to maintain a high tempo.

I spent a good amount of my extra PPs to buy out the bad commanders of the biggest units and the command and army HQs. I feel that helped a good bit.
I hope it is enough time.
